Summary: Dumb and Boring!
Review: I saw this movie in the theatre at the "urging" of a friend and his roommate. I came out of the theatre realizing I had wasted my money. My friend came out of the thearre realizing he had to go to the movie of my choice the next time we went out. I will admit I'm not much of a sci-fi fan, but I do have ones I like. This was not one of them.

Rent it before you buy it. Enough said.

Summary: Decent
Review: Nobody's Oscar pick, but pretty OK. Vin Deisel is pretty good, and Mitchell looks great. Plot is full of holes, but it's a pretty good time if you aren't asking too much of it.

Summary: A Surprise.
Review: Stranded on a planet with two suns after their ships crashes, a varied group of survivors including a Mullah and some of his followers, a bounty hunter, a genetically altered criminal, an art dealer, and a little boy struggle for survival. At first, their biggest dilema is surviving the heat and finding water. If only it was a little cooler, perhaps if both suns would set? Unfortunately, this does not happen. The only time there is darkness on this planet is an lunar eclipse -which happens once every 22 years.

This group eventually finds an abandoned science expedition, and some abandoned ships. They also find the remains of that expedition. Something apparently ate them alive twenty two years ago, during the last lunar eclipse. The natural tension between this diverse group begins to explode into minor outbreaks of violence. Then, one of the survivors is butchered. Who is the killer? In addition, creatures, who are unseen for most of the movie, but whose presence is always felt are soon discovered. These creatures are deadly, but stay underground and away from the dual suns found on the planet's surface. Added to this tension, the navigator makes an important discovery, a lunar eclispe is coming very soon. It will soon be "pitch black" everywhere.

Pitch Black does a great job building the story at a good pace. The tension is believable as the remaining survivors fight for their lives. Nor does the story take most of the convential, easy ways out. For example, people who hate each other before they are attacked by these creatues, still hate each afterwards. This causes problems for their survival. With good special effects and actors who are well cast and do a good job, "Pitch Black" was a fun adventure/horror movie. I enjoyed it.

Summary: What a surprise
Review: I was not especially impressed with the teasers released for this movie. I just happened to rent it one day as an "Oh what the heck!" What a surprise I was in store for. I will not say it is a great movie, but the effects and the acting make it a very good movie. The crash sequence in the beginning is spectacular. Rhada Mitchel's performance during this sequence is outstanding. Inspite of glaring holes in the plot, the way the characters interacted and some breath taking footage carry this film. The scene where the creatures come out as the darkness settles in is well done visually. To quote Vin Diesel's character it was "beautiful". The writers successfully manipulated the viewer to pull for first Hauser's character, then gradually shifted to have us rooting for Vin Diesel's character. Indeed Mitchel and Diesel are what set this movie apart from being just another weak attempt at sci fi horror. Their performances are no less than outstanding. I think if you liked Alien, and the Thing, you will like this one.

Summary: ok!
Review: Pitch Black VHS~ Radha Mitchell is your run of the mill alien monster movie. The acting is not up to par; however, the special effects and the monster scenes are pretty damn cool. Van Diesel is tremendous as the villain with a soft heart. The first scene is pretty intense and the action scenes afterwards are also quite spectacular. So, why did I not give it more then three stars, when all my comments have been mostly favorable? Well, the answer is when I previously wrote that the acting is not up to par and I mean that apart from Diesel, the other actors feel as if they are faking their performances and the leading woman is just to hokey to be believable in any shape or form.

Summary: Misleading marketing
Review: Wonderful effects, shallow plot, decent acting.

This movie didn't keep me in suspense at all, which was its major downfall. I was expecting a thriller that would keep me on the edge of my seat. What I got was a shoot-em-up action movie.

If you watch it expecting a spine-chilling thriller (which the trailers / TV commercials made it appear to be), you will be disappointed. If you watch it expecting a glossy action movie along the lines of Starship Troopers, you'll be satisfied.

Summary: A Great Movie
Review: I have seen both versions of this film, the rated and the un-rated. Even though the un-rated only gives you about four minutes of extra footage, it's worth it. It gives you more background on a few key things that really aren't mentioned in the rated version. I enjoyed this film. Not only for it's interesting usage of colors, but for its' fun story and the way the characters interacted with each other. The story is about a transit ship that goes arye after colliding with a meteor shower. The plane crashes on a desolate planet. But the planet is not as vacant as they thought. Vin Diesel, who plays a dangerous killer really gives us a gritty and cool performance. He it turning out to be a really good actor. It was the perfect blend of sci-fi and thriller. It definately makes you jump more than once. Anyone searching for a good movie needs to pick this one up.

Summary: Not Enough Publicity!
Review: Pitch Black was probably the most overlooked movie of the year. With an excellent plot and near perfect acting, this movie should have been more publicized! The story is definitely as strong as Alien. But a little more intense. As most Sci-Fi movies deal with space and aliens, this movie combines them and tells the story better than most. What is it about? Well, I don't want to give away the entire plot, that would ruin things. However, I will tell you this. A group of space travellers are on their way to a space settlement when all that can go wrong does. Marooned on a planet and accompanied by a vicious criminal(Vin Diesel), the travelers think getting off of the planet will be simple. But they think Vin Diesel is the only nightmare. They soon find out that it is not Vin Deisel is the least of their worries! Pitch Black is a nonstop adrenaline pumping thriller! The special effects and visuals are wonderfully done! But lack of media attention has kept this movie out of the spotlight. Definitely worth adding to your Sci-Fi collection!

Summary: Sci-Fi Thriller
Review: When their space ship crashes they're stranded on a planet with two suns. When an eclipse occurs, flesh eating creatures come out from under the ground with one weakness, light. The main character has a nice body. Good action scenes, I enjoyed watching the movie.

Summary: Lots of fun
Review: "Alien" comparisons are inevitable, but this movie still stands alone in its own way. Gorgeous cinematography, freaky landscapes, decent special effects and a very diverse group of characters make this quite an exciting movie to sit through. I'm not a sci-fi fan, nor a horror fan, but the two elements come together quite nicely here. Only downside is all the tension between the characters...after awhile, you're wishing they could "all just get along". This is the only cliched part of an otherwise satisfying film.
