Summary: THE GREATEST SCIFI HORROR FILM EVER
Review: It was the summer of 1979. The weather was low humidity and no rain. We popped the corn, packed up the kids and headed for the drive in on route 64 to a movie the kids wanted to see. We always waited till the second feature started before leaving, letting traffic clear out. The second feature was a movie we never heard of ALIEN. Little did we know that we had stumbled into a great movie. This is one of the great SciFi-Horror movies of all times. Only its sequel ALIENS is better. This was even better on a big screen TV that watching it in a drivein theatre. I never got to see ALIEN in a movie theatre a mistake I did not make when ALIENS came out. Favorite line: "I don't know if you been keeping up with current events, but we just got our asses kicked."

Summary: Only grateful for a few of the added scenes-miss original
Review: A film is edited to become a better than originally set. A lot of footage is cut to make sure the film isn't overly long, or unneccesary. It was neat that we saw the scenes where the Jordan family, goes to see the derelict ship. Aside from all of the terrific acting in the film, I didn't care for the acting IN THIS PART. The actors that made up the rest of the family there were not bad....just weak, and well, "there". Aside from that, the scene cut down the mystery factor and gave any first time watchers to ready themselves. I much prefer the THEATRICAL release. Loved the sheer terror factor that SLOWLY unrolled into the movie. Nobody in the colony. All missing. No transmissions. No reasons. Yet. Much more eeriness. Also, almost anything else added was just HONESTLY WEAK. But if you saw any other movie (even your all time favourites) unedited, you'd see a few weak acted scenes too, or even a part that you may not want to know-you want it to be a funny joke, or mystery. See? The only parts that were MORE THAN DESERVING to be kept in this movie were as follows: -Ripley's daughter died in her 60's. Burke brought her the info and a photo last taken. Very touching and it didn't interfere with the depth or mystery later. -All the scenes of the sentry weapons - setup, test, and both battles between the weapons and the "BUGS"...haha. -The quick snip of Ellen (Ripley) saying a temporary goodbye to Dwayne (Hicks). Neat how she seems to introduce her first name. wearing a bold face for such a simple thing. A cute insecurity of hers. They've known each other by their last names, and now it gets more personal.
And Hicks gives his first name with a smile, like telling her in a kind way not to be shy about it. (but ,okay, okay Ellen-uh-Ripley- don't just stand there-go get Newt!) -Hudson introducing to Ripley the detail of weapons that the United States Colonial Marines carry. Glad Hudson was the one to do so. He's awesome and always full of verbal volume. Ha-ha. Drake would have done a knockout job too! ALIENS is the best movie I'll ever own. This Special Edition was neat...yet I only am half grateful due to the FEW parts that were deserving to be added. The rest, well, as Drake would say (running backwards with Vasquez and blasting their smartguns at theose bugs, covering Hicks and Hudson's escape)

Summary: Classic film, shame about the 'special edition'
Review: The point of an editor within a film is to weed out uneeded material and ensure the film works and runs seamlessly. Maybe if I had never viewed the original, watching the special edition may not seem so bad to watch. Most of what is added stands out from the rest of the film...it seems weakly scripted but for the most part is irrelevant and spoils the impact for some of the scenes. Unfortunatley now the original edition is never shown on television or is available to on DVD. Is there a way to view the original without the additional footage on DVD?...there should be.

Summary: Amazing
Review: I've always been a big fan of the Alien series. They all seem to have just the right blend of everything, but this one... THIS ONE... hehehe. This is by far the best in the series. It's the most intense, well thought out action/sci-fi I've ever seen. The Matrix? It's got nothing on this. Watch this and you'll find some of the coolest lines ever (Hudson), sweet cinematography, and by far the most thrilling action shoot-out ever put to film. If you've never seen this, go buy it. It's that good.

Summary: GAME OVER MAN!!
Review: "In Space Nobody Can Hear You Scream" was the slogan for the terrifying space-horror film "Alien". The sequel, "Aliens" is nothing short of terrific. This film is nowhere near as horrifying as the original, instead, it is action-packed to the hilt. Director James Cameron, of Terminator fame, does an incredible job with special effects, story telling, and character development. The story basically picks up exactly where we last saw Ripley, floating through space on the escape ship where she battled the Alien from the first film. Ripley is found by a deep salvage team, and returned back to a space station orbiting Earth. As it turns out, Ripley has been drifting in outer space for 58 years. When Ripley destroyed the Nostromo in an effort to kill the Alien that slaughtered her entire crew, she cost the "company" millions of dollars, and upon her return, was stripped of her flight status. Burke, played by Paul Reiser, talks Ripley into joining a team of grunts in a military exercise to find a colony of people that were stationed on the Alien planet, and are now missing. The action ensues from there, as the grunts set up post in the colony stronghold, only to encounter Alien attacks. After many losses, and the finding of Newt, the only apparent survivor of the colony, Ripley fights the Queen of the aliens in a battle sequence for the ages. There are too many great things to say about this film. If you have never seen it, you have missed out on probably one of the best action films of all time. For a film made in 1986, it is definitely up to par with todays action films.

Summary: A Sadly Rare Type of Movie
Review: I believe there may be some sort of law against not having seen this movie. For your own sake, I would suggest watching it immediately, just in case. Aliens is a rare breed of movie -- lots of action, great characters, a menacing enemy, all pulled off extremely well. While Starship Troopers watered itself down with some obviously irrelevant romance scenes, We Were Soldiers goes through pains to show you the effect of a war at home and so many other action movies focus on just one cheesy lead character, Aliens is like a good old fashioned war movie. There's marines with machine guns (and plenty of personality), there's lots of vicious, nasty aliens, there's award winning special effects, what more could you want? Aliens is the perfect example of action sci-fi done right. It pains me that there are really no other movies up to spec in this catagory.

Summary: One of the best put together movies ever!!!
Review: The Special Edition DVD of Aliens is amazing. Not only is it a great movie but the extras in it are great, all the way from the multiple trailers to the additional footage. This happens to be one of my favorite movies that I can watch over and over again. It has a lot of action, good coheisive storyline and if you pay attention you can even catch a hint of a little romance. If you like sci-fi you have to see this movie. A great addition to any DVD collection.

Summary: Sci-Fi/ Action/ James Cameron: The Best Ingredients
Review: Director James Cameron has taken us to the very depths of the ocean in both, "The Abyss," and 1997's "Titanic." He's shown us his vision of the future in the classic double, "The Terminator," and Terminator 2: Judgement Day." He's thrilled us, made us laugh, gave us wonderful characters in his colorful, "True Lies." It should be no surprise that he could make such a terrific follow-up to Ridley Scotts "Alien." Sigourney Weaver does a smashing job, Bill Paxton kicks...as Pvt. Hudson, Michael Biehn is powerful as the shyly - eager to please, leader, Corp. Hicks, Paul Reiser is wholy believable as the venomous Burke. But, it's Cameron's way of keeping the film moving that is the real star.

Summary: Best of Its Genre
Review: Aliens is, arguably, the best film of its genre. James Cameron, an expert at arranging kinetic action scenes, wrote and directed this film, which was his finest effort. Aliens features gloriously staged battles, highly imaginative gadgetry, vivid characters who were well-cast, and Sigourney Weaver in her most compelling performance as Ripley.
Though surpassing Ridley Scott's fine Alien, as well as all other genre rivals, Aliens was produced on a remarkably small budget.
The Director's Cut features 17 minutes of exposition and gadgetry that fans of this film will love. New viewers should watch the tighter original cut however.
