Summary: The Iceman Dumbeth
Review: In true Carpenterian form, "The Thing" is a scarefest of the highest order. Fantastic special effects coupled with the hopelessness of a remote antarctic outpost drive this horrific tour de force to the forefront of 80's creature features. However, in true Carpenterian form, there are so many plot twists one needs a scorecard to keep track. The lion's share of the movie is a see-saw battle of "freeze 'em, no burn 'em", all the while our protaganists make ever clicheic mistake in horror movie history. And as for the "Thing"... Well, does it copy or absorb it's victims.? It's never really clear which. Everyone is a possible thing. Even the things are accusing the humans of being things. Like a bad episode of Judge Judy, after a while you can't tell who's lying and you get tired of trying to figure it out. Yet, if you are a true fan of the fangoria, "The Thing" is definitely the real thing.

Review: An excellent movie, completely unparalelled in the field of science fiction. Read the short story and watch the DVD. It is an excellent adaptation that follows the writers story explicitly. If you like Alien(s), you'll love this.

Summary: 5 STARS ARENT ENOUGH FOR THIS MOVIE !!!!!
Review: Honestly i very often have doubts to give a movie 5 stars, BUT NO DOUBT AT THIS ONE THAT 5 STARS ARE NOT ENOUGH. 10 stars would be a good start. I would be happy to see a sequel to it, BUT THIS MOVIE IS TOO GOOD TO CONTINUE WITH A SEQUEL, EVEN CARPENTER ISNT ABLE TO BEAT THIS MOVIE WITH A SEQUEL OF IT, ITS JUST THE BEST HORROR MOVIE THERE IS, AND EVER WILL BE (iam sorry to say that but even the SILENCE OF THE LAMBS or SEVEN couldnt scare me near THE THING did. And at last i have a big question: ARE MOVIES LIKE SCREAM OR "...LAST SUMMER" REALLY INTENDED TO SCARE PEOPLE ?!

Summary: The absolute BEST SCI-FI / HORROR flick EVER !!!
Review: This movie is absolutley the very best SCI-FI / HORROR film ever made in the current movie industry today! It has all of the Kick-Butt ingredents that a film like this should have! Suspence, mystery, bone-chilling monster action, killer setting in Antarctica, phenominal acting, all in all more than a perfect movie !!!!!! This movie blows away any other movie in it's catagory!(Like Aliens, Mimic Ect.)I would like to say that this movie was not sucsessfull at the box office because it was too far advanced for its time! The special effects are mind blowing, and the whole movie concept is unlike that of any other! I would have to rate this movie 2 stars ahead of any maximum rating system!!!! BRAVO!!!!!!!! One more THING before I finish this review, I would like to challenge any other movie producer to even try to come close to making a great film such as this!!! The best outcome would be to have John Carpenter and Steve Bottin make a sequill.

Summary: Far better then the hack job original film
Review: The 1951 film turned a great short story into a sad self parody. The shape shifter was turned into a Frankenstein ripoff in a rubber suit. Glad John Carpenter was able to tell the true story and actually improve it.

Summary: A Classic Remake
Review: I now alot of you people think that the original Thing is better. Its okay but its like a Frankenstien monster movie. But the remake is awsome! This is a classic remake. Alot of critics didn't like it because it wasn't like the original. Duh! Thats what a remake does, it retells it another way. John Carpenter had a good idea for this. He still makes the coolest and the scariest movies.

Summary: John Carpenter's best film ever
Review: I have seen nine John Carpenter films and The Thing is definitely his best film. Sure, it's gory but it does produce a lot of frights and some excellent effects (especially the spider-head scene). None of the f/x in this film look dated and you might even say they're better than most films these days. Anyway, the plot of The Thing is about an Antarctican team that discovers there's a shapeshifting alien among them. The Thing is incredibly suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. For some other great Carpenter films watch: In the Mouth of Madness and Big Trouble in Little China. For some decent Carpenter films watch: Prince of Darkness, They Live, Halloween, and Assault on Precinct 13. For some bad Carpenter films watch: Christine and Vampires.

Summary: Not Enhanced!!!!!!
Review: Forgot to mention the DVD's only flaw. It is not enhanced for widescreen TV's. Everything else about the Collectors Edition is perfect. I just wonder why when most DVD's are enhanced, this one is not. Go figure.

Summary: Better picture Than LD? You've gotta be ******* kidding.
Review: Nope. If I wasn't completely sold on DVD,I am now. The picture on The Thing is much more natural and full of life than my Laserdisc version. And the sound (for a change) isn't that different than the LD. One odd thing though. When Bennings yells to Nauls "I'm trying to sleep! I got shot today!" Stevie Wonders Superstition is playing on his radio. This sounded strange to me, so I went back to my LD and watched the same scene. On the LD , The Four Tops, "One Chain Don't Make Me No Prisoner" is playing. But on the left channel you can faintly hear for about two bars worth of, "Very Superstitious"from Stevie. I wonder why the music change.Does anyone know?? But let me just say again, great movie. Great, great, great DVD.
