Rating: Summary: Nobody can hold the tears in this movie, I bet it.... Review: I can say this is one the most profound movies I ever saw in my life, and I have already seen a lot of movies, but this movie touches in every people's hearts, its mainly about prejudice when you start to watch it, but the message deep inside is even more complex than anybody can imagine...if you want to buy a movie that will teach you something about life, give a shot at this you, you wont regret it...
Rating: Summary: A Movie That Has A Heart Review: When i first saw this movie in juneof last year i was very moved. The simplicity of Powders life how he has always known life just to be his grandparents farmhouse. Then suddenly being trusted into a strange new enviroment, and having to deal with the cruely and knowing that people fear him because they don't understand what he has been though. He is the most human and intelligent person you'll ever meet. But, in the end Powder knows that most people are not ready for him to be there because of his ideas and his gifts. So, he had to go back to wherever going back is or more like going out sending his energy out. But, hopefully he will be back someday to more open, caring, and understanding people. I recommend this movie to anyone is really get you where the heart is. Watch it with a open mind because it does get deep into the human aspect of live and philosophy.
Rating: Summary: This is a great movie! Review: I think that this movie is absolutely amazing--I've wanted to see it for years, and finally got around to it. I think that other movies like THE GREEN MILE definitely borrowed elements from this film, and that POWDER is really well-done and forces you to think.
Rating: Summary: YUCK! Review: WHO ever even came up with idea it's just a stupid movie about a guy that gets hit by ligtning and I can't give you the details because im getting disgusted just writing about it!
Rating: Summary: A movie from and for the heart Review: I watched this movie on a whim, prior to reading any reviews.I cried. And I laughed. And I cried while laughing. And in end had no doubts that everyone would fall in love with this movie. Then I read reviews, most snobbishly negative. I was stunned. Who *cares* about technicalities if the movie can MOVE you? And if you have a heart, it will. Buy it, put your critic's hat aside, and watch it from your heart. Feel it, involve yourself - don't wait to be entertained as if it were some shallow, action-adventure flick. For those of you who hated it, I'd ask that you watch the deer-kill scene over again. There's a lesson in there for you: open your heart.
Rating: Summary: It's All About Being Different... Review: Powder is the magnificent story of an albino boy who's very high IQ and different looks gets him into some trouble. After his grandfather dies, he goes to live in a home for young boys. Everything is ok, until he goes to school. He'd never been to school before and so it is all quite new and scary. His looks do not help him make friends, either. After a freak accident in school occurs, his teacher finds that he is more different that one would expect. They have him take an IQ test and he proves to be the smartest person ever! But that doesn't stop the harrassment.... It's a great movie.
Rating: Summary: Full of flaws, but touching and memorable Review: I agree with many of the things said by reviewers who gave this film one star. The characters are far too black and white, especially Harley, who seems to experience an epiphany midway through the film, but ends up as much a redneck as he was at the beginning. The reactions to Jeremy's (i.e., Powder's) albinodom are so exaggerated they're almost bestial. But the central performance is interestingly ambiguous and beautiful. There is a scene with Jeremy, the Sheriff (played very well by Lance Henricksen) and his wife, who is in the last stages of terminal cancer. It doesn't provide any answers, but for those of us who have lost loved ones to this disease, it is a haunting reminder of all the questions we asked. If you watch this, you will probably wish the subsidiary characters were more fully realized: the "bad" ones are too thoroughly bad (sort of like Billy Zane in Titanic ;-). But you may find some of it moving. And you may ask yourself some belated questions about the way you treat - or have treated - people who don't easily fit in. A movie that can have this effect is not to be taken lightly.
Rating: Summary: Thank you Jerald F. Brockert of Melbourne Florida Review: Everyone of you should read this gentleman's review. This is what I have been trying to say for years about this movie. If you want to check out what I had to say about this movie - go to the Internet Movie Data Base or imdb.com - under this movie title and you will see that my views of this movie is in most cases exactly what Jerald here was saying. Thanks again Jerald.
Rating: Summary: Profound! Powerful! Touching! Review: Powder was recommended by a friend. I saw it two years ago and found myself overcome with emotion and in tears at the end. Yesterday evening, I happened to catch it on a local station and found myself as absorbed in the movie as if I had never seen it before! As others have stated, the movie has flaws but nothing is perfect! Powder was so enlightened and sensitive. His strength came not from bravado, but from insight, caring, and a deep respect and love of life. Because I'm an animal lover, the scene with the dying doe was almost more than I could watch. It's as if I knew what he was going to do before he did it! It was scary! I knew that Powder was only going to exist on Earth a short time. He was far too intelligent and elevated in his thinking and empathy to live among us humans in this world. I could sense the pain he experienced from watching how we treat each other and other creatures. It was a well-done example of the best and worst of humanity--exposing the fears that form our prejudices, and opening our hearts to allow the purest, deepest feelings to surface. This is a beautiful story about a beautiful human being. I highly recommend it to everyone!
