Summary: If nothing else, see it for the art
Review: First of all, this was the very first animated film I watched and noticed the art. Especially pay attention to the musical scenes of Jim and Silver, mixed with those of Jim and his father. I honestly think it's one of the best-done animated films from Disney, perhaps at all.The story never really dragged, and stayed pretty true to the priginal, as much as a movie can to a novel. The biggest detraction from the enjoyment of this movie (and BOY was it a detraction) was the introduction of B.E.N., who played an important role, yes, but also should win the animated academy Award for most revoltingly annoying character. If you didn't like Jar-Jar, you'll probably have the same reaction to B.E.N. Overall, its definitly worth seeing, an enjoyable film that really seemed to be over too fast.

Review: I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! It was Humorous and adventurous. My favorite character was Jim. I could relate to him a lot. Out of EVERY SINGLE Disney movie I have EVER seen this was definitely my favorite!!!I'd reccomend this movie to ANYONE (except very small children)!!!

Review: You already know the story. This retelling is beautifully translated to a universe that is both space-futuristic and 18th century fantastic. The new setting does not interfere with the storyline, and it's beautiful to look at. It's a nice ride. Maybe not an Oscar winner but it's still a good flick!

Summary: what happened ?!
Review: i remember seeing the trailer for this movie and was stunned to see such magnificent imagery. when i first heard of this, i was stunned to see that Disney had made 2 NEW animated movies in one year, aside for the onsaught of sequels. i was stunned. WAS what the hell happened? sure, pirate ships in space sounds kooky, but the art and creative aspects had all the makings of fantastic fantasy adventure. instead what do we great? the same recycled circumstances that have been done over and over again in old Star Trek episodes and in Lost in Space. a star goes super nova, wow, didn't see that coming. now, lets speak a bunch of jardon that any normal american wouldn't understand. its ok, the explosions will keep them busy. ugh. and if the 'special' effects didn't take away from the movie, the script is a dead runner-up. holy predictability. after making movies for as long as they have, why haven't they gotten any new writers, or at least a writer that can pass 9th grade English. you'd think some of the literature the movie was based on, would have rubbed off on the script. denied. the third major fooly is the character design. after watching about 5 minutes of the main character and his mom, it was like i was watching The Little Mermaid's Ariel a few more years in the future with a dead-end job, no husband, and a rebelous kid. The whole bonding between Jim Hawkins and Silver, closely mirrors that bonding between Kit cloud kicker, and Baloo from a GOOD disney tv series, Tail Spin. most of the aliens in the movie seem so forced, like Disney went out of their way to try and make something different. suggest you never see this movie. anything that has salvage from this stain of cinema, will surely be reproduced again in the future for your tainted eyes to gaze upon.

Review: I was one of those people who, when I heard that Disney was making a movie on Treasure Island "in space", I nearly had a fit. Treasure Island has been one of my favorite books since I first read it in the 5th grade....
I won't give away what happens on Treasure Planet. Go see the movie to find out for yourself.
This movie blew me away. I had the luck to be near to an IMAX and was able to see it there. Disney did a superb job, giving the classic an even more interesting view.
To all those who have read Treasure Island and are uneasy about seeing the film, I highly suggest you go. I can't guarantee you'd like it, but I can guarantee this: Disney, for once, did a good, solid story. The relationship between Jim Hawkins and John Silver is very believeble. This Treasure Island fan wasn't the slightest bit dissappointed, and I hope you won't be either.

Summary: Fun for young and old.
Review: Met my expectations. Visually spectacular. True to the original story while taking the necessary artistic license to fit the film format. Will not lose viewers with short attention spans. Characters were well developed given the time constraints. Enjoyed thoroughly by my five year old but probably best suited to older children. For those who care, several deaths were shown in the film (usually someone floating off or falling away) and there were several intimidating encounters between various pirates and young Jim- which would be expected. Being a fan of the action/sci-fi/fantasy genre I enjoyed the movie but those seeking drama, subtle character development and intricacy of plot should look elsewhere; this is a Disney Movie afterall and one that began as an (albeit classic) pirate story of rum, rusty sabers, old salts and lost treasure. All others, enjoy!

Summary: Treasure Island with an edge of Sci-Fi. How Cool Is That?!!
Review: The tale of Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson has been a much-loved classic by all ages. Out of the many variations from filmmaking history, this animated rendition is one of the most unique and magnificent, probably one of the best. It's Treasure Island with a touch of science fiction and that is very cool! Love the mix of historical charm with some cunning edge technology. A small example of this is the ship The USS Legacy, an old nautical like vessel with the option of solar power rockets. Even if the story is familiar to you, this movie will not fail in grabbing your attention and drawing you in. And getting caught up in Treasure Planet is easy, because it just has the right amount of complexity and unpredictability. There's a great thrill of discovery when Jim Hawkins and the pirates reach the hidden mysterious trove. And on the way there, the actions of some characters will take you by surprise (like B.E.N. for example) thus adding to the humor and suspense of the film. With interesting diversity and rich dynamic visuals, there is enough here to keep you captivated and entertained way beyond your imagination. Some characters are extremely bizarre and agreeably can be a bit repulsive. But that just adds to the inventive weirdness of the film and makes the kids laugh. Being based on Treasure Island this movie's depiction is very impressive and I'm glad that I got to see it. I gained a renewed fascination for the story afterwards, making me love everything about this classic legend even more. It's an excellent portal for unlocking this timeless tale to the minds of young viewers, and it really has a lot to offer for the enjoyment of an adult audience. If you like a good old adventure with a bit of modern science (especially astronomy) you'll enjoy Treasure Planet! If you love Treasure Island and you're a bit curious, don't hesitate, because it does an admirable job with illustrating the story and it's valuable life lessons. Well worth it and quite rewarding, Treasure Planet has become one of my big favorites.

Summary: WE WERE AMAZED!
Review: My family of five was completely impressed with this Disney genius. It's a classic story with beautiful digital animation. The adults and the children (ages 2, 5 & 8) were not able to stop talking about it when it was all done. I have been disappointed with some the more recent Disney releases and was concerned about getting excited about this one, but was pleasantly thrilled after only a few minutes--and the thrill lasted all the way through the entire movie. I will buy this DVD the first day of it's release... GUARANTEED! Take your family and enjoy! All you Disney cynics out there, have an open mind and let yourself have a little fun!

Review: The moment I saw the preview for this at the June release of Lilo and Stitch I was completely smitten. I finally read Treasure Island over this summer, and found out how much I had missed before I became a teen! This was a faithful (if somewhat unorthodox) adaptation of the classic by Robert Louis Stevenson. Fans of the Final Fantasy game series (forget the movie; THAT should be thrown off the face of the earth) will like the "flying ships" and Jim Hawkins, the main character, who is vaguely reminiscent of Squall from Final Fantasy 8. The animation is spectacular, and Long John Silver's Swiss Army Knife cyborg "appendages" are pretty neat. The music is perfect: James Newton Howard, as usual, does a wonderful job with his adventure themes that remind us of the early 90's movie Shipwrecked and such high seas adventure. Johnny Rzeznik, of the Goo Goo Dolls, wrote two songs for the movie; "I'm Still Here" and "Always Know Where You Are" (the latter performed by BBMak). They give a feeling of the teen in Hawkins and accentuate Howard's score perfectly. For the parents out there looking for some moral redemptive factor in this movie: Treasure Planet brings out the pain of having a broken family, and viewers will be touched by the bond that forms between Hawkins and Silver. Some of the aliens are a little bit scary, and there's a few explosions, etc., but it's generally a kid-safe film. Overall, this movie was a classic adventure movie, perfect for young and old alike, and one that I will watch more than a few times. Way to go Disney!

Review: Disney has been trying to break their "formula" movies and make more action adventure cartoons. It's been a rocky start. in 1985 the spectacular failure of "The Black Couldrun" convinced them that a PG cartoon wouldn't work. But when Dreamworks came through with 4 big hits "prince of egypt" "eldorado" "antz" and "Shrek," they began reworking their formula. "Atlantis" was their first attempt, and I thought a fairly decent one. But fans decide and "Atlantis" was shunned. To make up for it, the same crew began work on adapting the classic pirate tale "treasure island" into the sci-fi animation adventure of a lifetime. Filled with more heart than techno-mumbo-jumbo, "Treasure Planet" tells the story of a troubled teen named Jim Hawkins who is always getting in trouble with the authority. When an alien ship crash lands outside his home, Jim discovers a map to the "treasure of a thousand worlds." Set up on a ship full of nasty alien pirates in disguise, Jim befriends Long John Silver, a cyborg. Silver and Jim's friendship holds the movie together and it is put through some nasty tests. Colorful sidkicks, such as B.E.N. (played by Martin Short), a clumbsy but couragous scientist (played by David Hyde Pierce) and a shape shifting blob named "morph" steal the show. parents be warned! This is not a little kids movie! In the first 5 minutes of watching this film, i saw 3 families leave because their kids wouldn't stop crying. there is alot of intense action and very evil characters. Just keep in mind that there is a REASON why it's rated PG! all in all, I think this film shows that disney still can make an epic tale, without degrading it into a colorful song and dance number. Enjoy the movie!
