Summary: Batman: Beyond the Batman of the Old School
Review: Spoiler Alert: Go no further if you wish to be surprised at the ending of this terrific film.The best part of this film is how the Joker is brought to life. We learn the fate of Robin. Not the one who became Nightwing. This one had a true mystery within the story. The scenes with Robin's capture by the Joker and Harly Quinn are truly chilling. It didn't show any gore. We could fill in the blanks on our own. It kept you guesssing as to how the big J returns from the grave. Who would have thought that a microchip could reproduce the Joker's essence into another person. Now only if The Dark Knight Returns was adapted in this format; you'd truly have a new classic to stand beside this one.

Summary: Bruce Wayne is Batman
Review: I really could not get into this story. I picture Bruce Wayne as Batman, and he always will be Batman. Not some teenager, in a movie that looks like it was influnced by the William Gibson techo-books rather then on the character created by Bob Caine. Batman belongs in Live Action Movies, Animation belongs to Bugs Bunny.

Summary: IT'S TRUE! THE UNEDITED VERSION IS THE BEST!
Review: i was like others thinking that the edits they would make would not disrupt the film. i have seen the unedited version and it is one of the best batman films made, live action or cartoon. then i saw the edited version. they have changed key scenes in the movie. the mail one is the jokers fate. they took out a scene where some one shoots the joker with a gun. other scene replacements are stupid. at one point in the original version the joke says the word "putz" ans they replace it with "yutz". WHY!? is putz a bad word in yiddish or something!? this version is good for 2 1/2 stars and fun to watch. ther original version is a masterpiece and should be released with a warning label. SEE THE UNEDITED VERSION FOR A FINE MATURE FILM.

Summary: Just try and see past the watered down scenes
Review: This movie, which is the result of the great creative mind that is the Batman team, flows well, but got watered down by the censors. It's a damn shame because I read the screenplay (available at bookstores) and saw how effective the dark, edgy scenes were. Without them, the movie's climax is somewhat short of it's potential. This is the fault of the cencors. My advice: watch the DVD then go back and read the screenplay. And just enjoy the fact that you're watching a really cool Batman DVD.

Summary: Sacrifice plot for profits, much, WB?
Review: Having already seen the uncut version of the movie before I got my copy for Xmas, I have only one thing to say. Someone needs to tell the WB to get off of their high horses and think of the fanbase. What I was witness too on Xmas day was a horribly butchered version of a great movie. They changed too much stuff, and most of the cuts were awfully bad. Even if you do decide to ruin a great plot, at least pick up the pieces and re-animate key scenes. Those of you who've seen the uncut version know what I'm saying. The final verdict from me is this - go on the net and get yourself a copy of the movie uncut. Save your money until the WB wises up and releases an uncut version. Vote with you dollars.

Summary: A good edit.. but...
Review: Batman Beyond:ROTJ is a good movie... for a edit.. I saw the edit first and then saw the unedited version.. much like reading a book after seeing a particular movie, it added to the experience, rather than take away from it... personally, I wished Warner Bros. had released a version for kids and a version for adults (like the HBO Spawn series).. with today's dvd features, you could have included both on the same disc.. and with most dvd players having a parental lock, you could easily keep it away from prying little eyes... I think Warner Bros. is like a lot of companines out there.. they constantly underestimate their audience... but in today's world of catering to the lowest common denominator, PC guidelines, and fear of a few parent's groups, they cut up a dramatic, dark, and intense experience... maybe one day, people in the US will come to see animation as a real tool to tell "real" stories (like the anime from Japan) but for now, most seem to still think of it as kiddie fare... Bruce Timm and Co. made a great movie, but Warner Bros. didn't have the guts to release it.. I'm sure that the edited version of Batman Beyond:ROTJ will go on to become a "classic".. but it could have been so much more...

Summary: A Great Batman Movie -- In the Opinion Of a True Batman Fan
Review: This really is a fantastic movie. For general audiences, it holds all the appeal of a good Batman storyline. For true Batman fans, it holds up to our strict scrutiny. If you've read the comics and watched any of the animated series, you might expect that this storyline will hold few surprises. You would be wrong. The "Mask of the Phantasm" storyline was good, but not particularly surprising or original. "Return of the Joker" is both. It's so original, in fact, that I would suggest you go out of your way to avoid learning anything about it before watching. You won't be disappointed. The DVD special features are excellent, as well. There's a short documentary about the production of the movie, an audio track recorded by the creators, and even an unanimated scene that was deleted from the final cut. I recommend this movie for anyone. The storyline is both original and well-developed, and contains elements that will hold the interest of mature audiences while presenting them in a manner suitable for younger viewers. I'm glad to own this DVD, and offer my thanks to everyone who took part in its production for the wonderful result.

Summary: Despite edits and cliches, this was worth the wait.
Review: OK, I just watched the 'edited' version of the long awaited 'Return of the Joker'. From there, I skimmed through the reviews on Amazon. Finally, I viewed the deleted scenes elsewhere online. The scenes varied in their impact, but only one (involving the apparent "demise" of the Joker) has any real impact on the rest of the story. The other scenes establish the Joker has an unhinged psychopath, which even the most casual Batman fan already knows and doesn't need repeated. On its own merit, this is easily the finest Batman Beyond story ever told. There's enough of Bruce Wayne and the original Batman family to satisfy fans of the traditional Dark Knight. At the same time the 'new' Batman, Terry McGinnis, seemingly grows up before our eyes as he drops the one-liners and is given a much more serious edge. The much-discussed flashback sequence is the movie's finest scene. I had to remind myself that I was just watching a cartoon, because the intensity was very palpable. The fate of Tim (Robin) Drake will stay with the viewer long after the movie has ended. What keeps this from being a five-star classic (such as the superior 'Subzero' Batman movie) is that 'Return of the Joker' can't rise above some tired and overused cliches. We have the villian who has the hero 'right where he wants him' and proceeds to explain his nefarious plan, giving the hero time to escape. Also, wanton destruction via a super-satellite isn't much of a criminal motivation...even for the insane Joker. Finally, the explanation of how the Joker "escaped" death, is ridiculous, even for a cartoon. Don't believe the negative hype, though. If you're a fan, you'll enjoy this film. Keep in mind, while we're all kids at heart, this was intended to be a children's film. This wasn't aimed at the adult hardcore fans and the final product is worthy of the Batman legacy. By the way, definitely NOT for kids under seven.

Summary: Uncut or cut, it's still great
Review: "The Return of The Joker" is the best (money) I've spent in a very long time...I've seen both versions and both are great. This is a masterpiece. A lot of love and care went into the making of this film and it shows in every frame. Paul, Curt, Bruce--everybody involved in it from the voice talent on down should be proud of themselves. It's exceptional. As someone who works in the creative field and is extremely familiar with the entire Batman Mythos, it takes a lot to impress me. I can state without fear of refutation that "Return of The Joker" will live for a very long time. I've watched it several times already and that's unusual for me. The flashback sequence alone is worth the price. I'll go so far as to say this--if the comics themselves had this kind of passion behind them, I'd still be reading them today. I can only hope if another live-action Batman film is ever made, the talents behind the animated versions are tapped. To everyone involved in this endeavor. I thank you.

Summary: Unrated video a SMASH HIT!
Review: The Non rated version (NR) is excellent! the plot was excellently written, the action was up there, and hey! not a drop of blood in the whole movie! Granted, it wouldn't be suitable for children under 8 years due to the fantasy violence and gothic undertone, but all-in-all, it was DRFINITELY one for my collection! The back cover review is just the tip of the iceberg. Oh yeah! Watch out for a plot twist you DO NOT wanna miss! HA HA HA HA HA!
