Rating: Summary: Back again for another round Review: My mother and I went to see this movie, as she is a big reader of Harry Potter books (thanks to my younger sister) and I just recently caught the first movie on HBO. Anyway, the movie was wonderful. The thing that I really enjoy about Harry Potter is that it is just so imaginative, unique and intelligent. The story begins with a weird little elf that is comes to Harry's uncle's home to warn him to not come back to Hogwarts for his second year. Harry (with some help from Ron Weasley) manages to escape his uncle's clutches and gets back to Hogwarts. This movie brings up an idea not mentioned in the first, the idea that some people (muggles) have no magic in their families, so some people (like that blond kid from Slitherin) regard them as second class wizards. Which is interesting considering that Hamilie (sp?) is the class brain. Anyway, it's a very interesting and creative movie with a bunch of similiarities but also a lot of new things as well. (for example, the howler that ron weasley receives from his mother i thought was one of the best magical objects). Anyway, I won't ruin the movie, just go see it!
Rating: Summary: Another wasted opportunity Review: Another year, another wasted opportunity. That sums up the latest Potter flick. Like Harry Potter from last year, this films biggest weakness is the slavish devotion to the source material. Which, no doubt, is due to J.K. Rowling's insistence. And once again, the filmmakers are so intent on covering everything, they have little to time to focus on anything. The result is one long ponderous and episodic mess that fails to give anyone the screen time they need or deserve. Indeed, the characters seem so slimly drawn that despite the films long length, there's no sense of their significance to the narrative. In terms of production, Chamber of Secrets is a far better film: the scene in which spiders chase the young heroes through the woods is far better realized than anything in the first film. Overall, the FX are superior.....YAWN. [Director] Chris Columbus is only an adequate director, and he seems unable to control the films tension and conflict: the ending is nothing more than one big groan inducing cliche..........just like the last film. However, there are sporadic pleasures in The Chamber of Secrets. Kenneth Branagh, as the self-loving teacher of Defense Against the Dark Arts, turns in a rather fun performance, and there are a few semi-tense sequences. Now, mistaking "darkness" for depth, it's with little surprise that the politically corrected have responded favoribly to the films core message of "prejudice". In The Chamber of Secrets, we are intoduced to the word "mudblood", which is the slur used against those with Muggle blood. Preach it, baby. It seems that a monster has been set loose to stalk the halls of Hogwarts and kill those who are "impure". Who could be responsible? Why the blond kid, right? After all, young Draco Malfoy, along with his blond father, not only has the look of a young Nazi in waiting -- but has the attitude as well. But of course. Though it's really not shocking that class/race war rears its head in Rowling's books: one might expect a single mom on welfare to harbor hatred for the self-assured middle class. Not that it matters now.
Rating: Summary: Alexander (8 years old) Chamber of Secrets Review Review: I think Harry Potter is a great movie! It gives me a good idea how life is at Hogwarts... like broom flying, screaming plants, whomping willow, and Malfoy! Malfoy to me seems like [a] mean boy, but I don't know about you?! And Ron for example is just a scaredy cat with a human body, but again I don't know your opinion?! And Hermione she's basically a genius girl whose secret room is the library, but Wow you probably don't understand anything of what I'm saying! And don't forget Harry who I think is a handsome hunk that saves the day all the time! We may have two different ideas. But it's still a good movie! There is terror, like the hideous monster that pops out of the water, the big spider, and the blood painted on the wall! But when the movie is about to begin you think "This movie needs more action." Soon your wish comes true! But sometimes it's not the scary parts that are the most exciting parts! But if you have not seen this movie before I hope I did not spoil it for you! The End
Rating: Summary: Kicks The First Movies butt! Review: It was great, a lot better than the first movie. It some action parts towards the end. It was easy to follow and they didnt skip many parts like the first movie. But I didnt get how that huge snake went around petrifying people with out getting seen. But it was a great movie though it is 3 hours it is still good.
Rating: Summary: Surprise for Credit Readers Review: As you have probably read in all the other reviews, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is (as Harry might say) "brilliant." The pacing is excellent and the effects are spectacular (Quidditch and flying car scenes). The movie is definitely darker and scarier than the first, following the progressively darkening tone in the book series. A few of the younger children in the audience could be heard asking their parents to take them home--one family left before the end. I have a 5 year old son at home who absolutely loved the first book and movie, but I'm not planning to let him watch it until he's a little older. And now, one little tidbit that might not be seen in other reviews--if you managed to sit through all the credits (and they are long) you will be treated to a special little surprise at the end. (Not out-takes.) Maybe about 10-15 seconds long, but true fans will be tickled. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: BEST MOVIE EVER!.... Review: I've seen Harry Potter 2 about 6 times and I'm crazy over it!! I think it's the best movie ever. I think you will like it to.It is not a waste of money. GO SEE IT .I MEAN IT!...
Rating: Summary: All Hail King Potter! Review: This is by far better than the first movie. The book was better than the first book anyway, but the movie is richly funny and cunning at times (because of Jason Isaacs). This movie is about Harry Potter and how a house elf doesn't want him to go to Hogwarts. But he does go, and when he does, he kinda wishes he didn't. Someone is petrifing the students and Harry is the top suspect. In case you didn't read the book I won't tell you that much. It's 161 minutes, which is a woping timing, but the movie is very subperb. The best bit was the climax, with the giant basalisk, amazing. Sometimes the movie does get a little out of there, but a lot less than the first movie. The effects are completely just...just...i don't have a word for it, because it's so good. The mandrake puppets, they where funny, the basalisk was just great, and the howler, was so funny it was tearful. The spiders, though...chilling. The spiders, they where completely scary, most likley because i'm scared of spiders. They where huge and the effects for them where almost as good as the basalisk. I really enjoyed that scene. Although a lot of people say that it's to scary for young kids, I really think that if they've read the books then they should know what's coming. This is a great film that makes you really charish the magic of Hogwarts. The only bad thing was that they cut out the Deathday Party. :( SEE THIS MOVIE!
Rating: Summary: Falls short of "The Sorcerers stone". Review: There are some slight problems with the second H P film. It really tries to put all it's energies towards the kiddies, however is over many of their heads and is a little to frightening for the smaller children. As for the adults taking the little ones to see it.. your likely to notice how the script is attempted to be brought down to the younger viewers level. Some things are explained a little to well leaving you no reason to think about anything. As if it was intentionally dumbed down for the less brightened bulbs. Some of the characters that seemed interesting in the book turned out to be quite annoying in the film. Some examples.. 1. Moaning Murtle, 2. that middle aged wizard with the Barbie hairdo, and 3. even Kenneth Branagh's character. Aside from some nice graphic's and scenery there isn't much here but pop culture. I really enjoyed the first film, but this second one left me with little more than a sore backside. 5 stars for "Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone". A mere 3 stars for "Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets". As for the next H P adventure who knows.
Rating: Summary: A great film!! Review: Wow, this is such a wonderful, wonderful film! The young actors are obviously more comfortable with their parts and are excellent, and the adults shine once again. The special effects are spectacular and the movie is extremely faithful to the book. It is definetly destined to be a classic, just like the first movie, and does not dissapoint. This is definetly a better, more exciting, and scarier picture than the first, so do yourself a favor and see this GREAT movie!
