Rating: Summary: not very good Review: when I went to the theatre to watch this, I thought it was going to be very good, because I thought the first movie was good. I was surprised that they tried to ake it into an action movie. I just don't think Harry Potter and action goes together.
Rating: Summary: Chamber of Secrets is Wonderful. Review: I would have to say this 2nd feature in the series is much prefered and more enjoyable than the 1st. One reason for this, i believe is the 2nd feature gets to skip all the explanatory and expository stuff in the 1st and jumps right into the storyline. One minor annoyance-the way Dobby keeps abusing himself in his 1st encounter with Harry. The flying car is kinda corny but kinda cool, and its good to see all the "Potterites" back where they belong at Hogwart's. (Even that dispicable Malfoy)
Rating: Summary: If the movies continue this way... Review: ... then mayhap I smell an Oscar on the horizon? Because this sequel was loads better than both the original and Lord of the Rings. Of course, I still have to say: READ THE BOOK(S). Each books significantly improves over the last. Reading the book is like getting the special edition DVD early, something you should not miss out on either.Film wise, "Chamber of Secrets" stands above its competators for family films (and fantasy films) in several ways. Daniel Radcliff, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson have greatly improved since "Sorceror's Stone", so much so that their acting doesn't fault once. For such fresh actors, they actually managed to add depth to their characters, something Vin Diesel has yet to achieve. The special effects are almost top notch (as disappointed as I was with The Two Towers, Gollum was still both a better character and supurbly animated than Dobby.), although I wish the basilisk has moved a little better. The plot is much darker than the first film, and "Chamber" is probably the second darkest of the books thus far, with "Goblet of Fire" easily taking the cake on that one. Columbus mixes drama, humor, and fantasy well enough, but he's still just missed the mark. There are some scene that were actually, I thought, improved upon from the book. Namely, the scene in Hagrid's hut after the "mud-blood" incident (Emma Watson plays this perfectly and Robby Coltrane has yet to miss a beat in any of his movies) and one of the scenes in the hospital wing (when Ron and Harry pay a visit to a friend). The real problems I can recall lie in Columbus's concentration on the action sequences. The final confrontation seemed to drag on far longer than in the book (and it did, upon re-reading) while Lockhart and Snape, who are played by two of Hollywood's greater actors, get barely any screen time at all. They do, of course, [shine in] every scene they're in. Also, why is it that Quidditch is more fun to read about than it is to watch? And one match just isn't enough. I'd much rather see a few seconds of several matches instead of the obligatory one match. Hopefully, this can be remedied for "Azkaban". Despite these minor faults, "Chamber of Secrets" is still an excellent movie. The DVD remains in question. Looking at the specs, it seems outcries from the shoddy first DVD have been heard. Gone is the treasure hunt to unlock the deleted scenes (less than 10 on the first and not worth it at all) every single time. This time, we get 19, cast interviews, the whole nine yards. It looks to be well worth picking up. The Harry Potter series is one of the best fantasy series in print and a decent film adaptation. And, like it or not, it does get kids to read, unlike other fantasy films whose books are dry and boring. So until the Discworld series get greenlit for a live action movie (starring Christopher "I'm-80-and-still-scary-beyond-belief" Lee as Death), I'll stick with Harry Potter. And to think, I used to think it would be a terrible movie!
Rating: Summary: One of The Best Movies of the year! Review: I am a huge harry potter fan, and loved this movie! There was much more action and it was funnier too! I love Daniel Radcliffe(Harry Potter)! He's so cute! Ron was so funny as usual. The Chamber of Secrets was a great scene, so was the quidditch scene and a lot more. The spider scene was freaky. this movie is definatly not for kids under 8 years of age. I loved this movie and hope you do too! ~Danielle Radcliffe~
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE MOVIE!!! Review: I was surprized when I saw this movie.I thought it was another family movie, kinda like the first movie, but this movie keep me interested and on the edge of my seat. This movie sure has alot more action than the first movie. This is a must have movie.
Rating: Summary: Eye Candy Review: Chamber of Secrets had many wonderful scenes to see, and found viewing it a pleasure. I think a lot of us who have read the books say that these movies aptly bring to life the world of Harry Potter, but the characterization leaves something to be desired. I understand that it is an incredible accomplishment creating on screen the scenes and people that Ms. Rowling has created in our minds but I miss the dialogue. I miss the interactions between Harry and his newfound friends (and his newfound enemies.) Really these are great movies for the fans to watch, but in no way are they a replacent for the absolute wonder that is J.K. Rowling's talented writing. There is a certain sameness between this movie and it's predecessor, but that is also true of the first two books. I can't wait to see what a new director does with the third book which is, in my opinion, the best and also where the epic of Harry Potter turns in new directions.
Rating: Summary: The chamber of secrets - a great movie!! Review: A wonderful movie for children and adults alike! If you liked the book, you will love the movie! Very true to the book, and the graphics and scenery are even more spectacular than the first movie. A must have for all Harry Potter fans!
Rating: Summary: Cast pulls together Review: Although we all loved the first movie in this series, this second movie has a tighter feel. The cast really pulls together and seems to find their niche in this film and the special effects, as always, are incredible. If you haven't seen the first film or read the book,Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , I would advice seeing or reading it first. This second movie will make more sense if you know the background behind the characters and the game of Quiditch.
Rating: Summary: two thumbs up Review: I was really pleased with harry potters chamber of secrets book. i never read the first one but i did see the movie. the oppisite for the second one, i never saw the movie but read the book. this book was not better than the first but it was very eqivalent. harry potter is one of the best things that kids have to look forward to these days. any other mentor has a cape and super powers, granted so does harry potter but he is a little more realistic. at least he is a real boy. i am 19 years old and i enjoyed this book. its for all ages and i suggest that anyone read it.
Rating: Summary: From a Grown-Up Muggle's Perspective Review: I haven't read any of the books so far--although a book discussion group (adult level) I sponsor in my library has opted to make the first book in the seriew their April selection. I caught the first movie in the series several months after its release, and although I was in any hurry to see it (or to see it again for that matter), I did find it enjoyable and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to most viewers. Ditto this second entry. As far as family fare goes, in fact, the series is turning out to be just that--something the entire family might enjoy on various levels. These are films that parents (or other caregivers) can actually discuss with kids at some length, and parents, older siblings and other older Muggles are likely to get hooked enough to pick up the books as well. (OK, OK, as I said, I haven't as of yet, but I work in a library, so I know it happens!) THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS has even better special effects than the first film, and the child actors seem more comfortable in their roles. And the distinguished adult cast members are all fine, and look as though they're having a ball. As others have noted, the film may be a little too dark for the very youngest viewers. It's also a bit on the long side, so younger children are likely to get antsy and older viewers, like me, may find themselves getting a little sleepy. But it wraps up well. If I may be alowed one cynical observation it would be that, in the future, fantasy writers and screenwriters might want to ease up on the cutesy humanoid figures who refer to themselves --and others-- in the third person all the time.
