Rating: Summary: Fails to enchant Review: Before I start, let me assure you that this isn't a "my wizard is better than your wizard" rant. But, considering that Rowling's work was just the Lord of the Rings re-written (and a much less quality work). Yes, I know. I'm going to get "not helpful" votes. But I'm just pointing it out. Now, don't get me wrong. I enjoy Harry Potter, and, no, I don't think it's evil. However, it can't be ignored that Dumbledore is just an underdeveloped Gandalf with glasses. Dementors are simply Black Riders with rotted hands. Anyone who has read Lord of the Rings will know what I'm talking about. They look the same, and have the same effect on people as Black Riders. In the Lord of the Rings, Sauron is referred to as "He whom we will not name". Sound familiar, anyone? I'm not saying that Rowling has no original ideas, but I am saying that she should recognize where she got the basis for them.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: The books consumed by time - commuting on the tube, 5 minute breaks at work and wrapped up cosily in my duvet deep into the night. The film, I am pleased to say, was just as seductive in pulling me away from normal life, depositing me in the gothic romance of Hogwarts with Harry and his friends. The books transcended the ages here - it was my 56-year old father who introduced them to me - and the film was as eagerly received by 60-year olds as by toddlers. The actors portray Harry et al with the same naughtiness and courage as their alter-egos in JK Rowling's books (Hermione was particularly good) - the effects were, of course, manadatory and the quidditch game was brought to life on screen extremely well. It is wonderful to see British talent in a world outside of Hughtopia. While London is unmistakably dry-witted and floppy-haired, it is pleasing to see a different aspect of the national character (strength, solidarity and intellect) translated onto the silver screen. Moreover, it is wonderful knowing that the film will encourage more people to read. That can never be a bad thing...
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE Review: I read all the books and saw the movie with my family we all had a really good time with lots of laughs. Most parents that have seen it would agree its a good movie to sit around and watch with the family. As for the the movie goes, they did cut a lot from the books but it still made sense even after i had read the book and for people who haven't read the book it still an awesome moive. I one-hundred percent recomend this DVD to ANYONE or ANY COLLECTION. A must have.
Rating: Summary: Pottermania Review: I have read all four of the Harry Potter books and I am starting to read them all over again. I loved this movie! It's nice to finally see a movie that is made from a book, that actually sticks to the story line. It brings to life the true imagination of J.K. Rowling. The visual effects are out of this world. This movie is not about witchcraft and ruining children's minds. This movie is about taking viewers of all ages to another place where they can have fun. We all get distracted in the real world and need to escape for something different, which is why we have movies. This creative and imaginative movie isn't just for children either. If you would like to watch an enjoyable movie without the sex, drugs, and a lot of violence for once, watch Harry Potter. You will be amazed.
Rating: Summary: terrible Review: This is one of the worst DVDs that have been produced yet. The cover of the DVD says that it is a special edition. There are two discs to the DVD set, and only two special features: theatrical trailers, and 7 useless deleted scenes. The second disc is a bunch of tedious "tour of hogwarts" and "360 degree perspective of Hagrids hut" and if you click on a golden snitch, the little voice says "this is the golden snitch it is wonderful and very hard to catch, blah blah". To get to the deleted scenes, you must first go to Gringotts and get money, then go to the wand shop and try out a billion different wands, then you must go to the lessons, then you have to try and mix potions (if you do it wrong you go back to the beginning)and then you have to choose a potion (if you choose the wrong one, its back to the beginnning) and then the Philosephers Stone is revealed, and you get seven totally irrelevent and boring deleted scenes. As well as the DVD being a major dissapointment, the movie itself is nothing short of terrible. Harry Potter can NOT act, the SFX are terrible (very very bad [i cannot state this enough]), major bits have been left out, the dark elements of the story have been cut out giving it a cheesy "happy" feeling. overall, buy the VHS or rent it. This is not value for money.
Rating: Summary: Lots of Fun Review: I love Harry Potter and the Sourcerers stone. It's a great book for kids, and it is very well written. Thanks JK Rowling!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful DVD!!!! Review: ...this is a very special DVD. The fabulous movie aside, this has to be one of the most accomplished DVD's ever....everything from the guided tour of Hogwarts, to trips to Diagon Alley, to the time it takes to finally get the Philosophers Stone (which you have to find in order to reveal the deleted scenes)....everything is done so superbly & presented impeccably..... ...Overall? Fabulous!!!
Rating: Summary: Pretty good Review: Harry Potter is a great series. It pulled out my imagination and captivated it. I was very gald to hear they were making a movie but i wondered how they would find things that stayed true to reader's images. Well, Harry didnt look like Harry. his hair was too neat and he looked, and was, too shy. But i can deal with that. Ron wasn't a hot-head either. Hermione-she was cast very well. Draco wasn't mean enough, though. The picked out a very nice Castle. it was how i pictured it. Hagrid's hut wasn't, or the dorms. They skipped a few scenes, and made other things drawn out or happen too quickly. Though it sounds like im complaing, i love the books so im an awful critic. But, I do think the movie is very good. I do reccomend the book. I'm reserving a copy.
Rating: Summary: My review Review: I think that the movie was very much like the book.I noticed though that his scar was both out of place and the wrong shape, more like an N than a lightning bolt as shown on the book covers.I enjoyed this movie along with many friends but it was missing something from the book.I believe what it was missing was the raw emotion of the book.I also believe that Hagrid seemed slightly different than in the book.In conclusion I would less than think twice to recommend this movie but it would be best if you saw the movie before you read the book.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is amazing! Review: I luved this movie, but I wouldn't have minded that they didn't cut it down ( a true Harry Potter fan would probably rather see a three hour totaly unabridged version than the abridged, but it was still amazing!
