Summary: why doesn't my dvd work?
Review: Okay, this is a purely technical issue. My dvd skips all over the place and I was unable to view the entire movie, how frustrating! Guess I need to return it tomorrow. The dvd was also not very well planned as one is unable to view the deleted scenes without going through an awful lot of work. Very silly feature! Also, as usual, the dvd has a feature only accessible to people running windows. Why is there such a prejudice against Macintosh owners? Macs are often the computer of choice for people who make movies such as this one with plenty of special effects. Whomever produces these dvds really needs to consider the fact that we pay the same amount of money for the dvd and there is no excuse why all features aren't mac user-friendly. NO EXCUSE!

I do love the movie, but really wish they hadn't left out parts from the book. Hermione solved an important potions puzzle at the end of the novel and they completely skip that in the movie. Overall, a very good movie with a lot of imagination but dvd needs some work!

Summary: I BELIEVE IN MAGIC!
Review: I never read the books but I did venture to the movie theatre.
I was entranced from the start of the film. I want to go to the Hogwart(is that right?)school. I want to have an owl as a familiar. I want to know Harry Potter. Never has a movie excited me into regression. I was a young child seating on the edge of my seat loving this movie. Do I believe in Magic? I sure do!

Summary: Gets better every time you watch!
Review: This movie is wonderful. I have to admit that the first time i saw it in theaters I was a bit dissapointed in the film for lack of drive, but then i saw it a second time and it captivated me. I'm not saying it didn't captivate me the first time I saw it, my face had a permenant smile on it the whole time.... I'm just saying.
I recently rented the DVD and it is wonderful. To get to the extra scenes is a bit annoying but if you just remember to get your wand and then click on the collum in the classroom place you'll be fine. :)
If you saw this movie in the theaters and you weren't to thrild with it, I ask you to please try it again. It really keeps on getting better and better each time, and the kids make the movie.
Daneil Radcliffe as Harry is perfect. He embodies everthing Harry is and how he looks in my mind (and many others at that),on his preformance i give you a quote from Ron(Harry's friend)..." That was bloody brilliant!" Ron in the film is played by Rupert Grint, who is adorable as well as a source of hummor. And we must not forget that little clever witch Hermione, who is played perfectly by Emma Watson.
Also if you are a fan of any of the following actors this film is worth a shot: Dame Maggie Smith, Richard Harris, Richard Griffiths, Alan Rickman, Ian Hart, or Robbie Coletrain. All do a wonderful job and Robbie as Hagrid adds a hole lot of hummor to the film with his abbsent mindedness and odd tastes for pets. :)
I look forward to the other films and hope that they keep the amazing cast that they have now, especially the kids!

Bottom line: Great film, Great fun, After you watch it, read the book(s), you'll love it even more. :)

p.s. If you have the vhs version, at the end of the film, there are only two extra scenes, as apposed to the seven on the DVD. Just a fact I'd thought I would throw out there for you all. :)

Summary: Great movie; lousy DVD
Review: I saw Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone before I read the book. (I'm quite leery of books that get made into movies as they tend to loose the story somewhere in exchange for special effects; ala Star Wars Ep 1&2, but that's a whole other rant.)

Anyways, I fell in love with the story as I saw it unfold on screen. At that point I was itching to go read the book. To my delight I found that there were 4 books. I have not read so much in such a small amount of time.

After reading the first book, I decided that was shown in the movie, with the restrictions that movie makers have, that it told the story as best as it could without compromising any of the important story elements.

When the DVD went into development, I heard that deleted scenes would be added on a second disk and a whole bunch of other interesting tid bits. ...

So the mail comes, I'm eating my cake, my 4 year old niece is with me and her Mom when I pop in the 2nd DVD with the deleted scenes. I had read that there were a bunch of hoops (like playing a game) that one had to do to get to these much wanted scenes, but I'm pretty savvy with technology that I figured I could figure it out.

Much to my chagrin the people who made this DVD need to go back to marketing school and think about the fact that the 4 year old was BORED to tears with the way the 2nd disk was set up.

I finally found the instructions on how to access the 7 deleted scenes ...

The main gripes I have with the DVD are these:

1. Wide screen and anamorphic format should have been options (removed the label on one side of the DVD and this is possible.)
2. Make all extras easily accessible INCLUDING DELETED SCENES. Jumping through hoops is not only frustrating to adults, but especially to children.
3.Include more deleted footage instead of all the "games". If I wanted to play a games the online or pay for versions are options that I can go buy.
4. As with The Matrix, Moulin Rouge!, or The X-Men DVD include a version of the film that allows you to follow a white rabbit or green fairy (perhaps an owl?) where it then takes you to a deleted scene as it would fall in the order of the film or some behind the scene related *to* the scene option.

I was so hopeful that the DVD would have more, just as the book had "more" for me when I was finished watching the movie. 7 deleted scenes was not enough IMO.

However, in defense of those scenes, I will say that the extended potions class scene gives a greater depth to the Snape/Potter dynamic. Also, seeing the scene where Harry is thinking about his parents after discovering the mirror almost brought me to tears.

In closing, I loved the story, the movie was great, but as DVD, kinda bites. I hope that a better one comes out soon!

Summary: Awesome Movie, Bad DVD
Review: When I first saw this movie, I thought it was excellent. I saw it 2 more times in the theater afterwards, also. It was not a great disappointment after reading the book, as most films are. I was very anxious to get this movie and bought the DVD the first day it was released for purchase. Again, the movie was very entertaining, and the DVD clarity added to the excitement. As many of you may know, it is a two-disc set. The first disc is for the movie, and includes theatrical trailers, and the second disc is for special features. I was looking forward to seeing all of the special features, but the only good thing about it is finally reaching the Deleted Scenes. The rest of the disc is a sort of a game, a "quest" for the "sorcerer's stone" - which holds the "prize", the 7 deleted scenes. To get to them, you must go through a boring, and long process to get there. (Getting money to buy a wand, taking classes, and other things.) In fact, it would not be a great loss simply buying the video, because it shows the never-before-seen footage anyway. However, the clarity and neat surround sound on the DVD is also a good factor in the movie. If you haven't seen the movie, I suggest you buy it - you won't regret the purchase. It is a treat for the whole family.

Summary: oh my gosh who wouldn't love this movie?
Review: I actually saw this movie before I had read the books. I admit I didnt understand the whole harry potter big deal thing but I really liked the movie a lot!!!! I'm usually not into the whole magic weird wizards movie. but i liked the fact it was eery and dark and It had a cool atmosphere about it. Wow wasnt this an awesome movie? I loved it a lot! I think Hermoine did really good so did Professor Dumbledore. This movie was the best of the year by far. Totally worth buying the first day it comes out on dvd plus its loaded with extras. So I hope all of you guys go and rent Harry Potter doesn't matter if you've never read the books its funner that way actually after I saw the movie I read all four books ok enjoy :)

Summary: You gotta see this movie!
Review: If you have never read the Harry Potter books, then watch this movie. It tries to stay true to the book that it is based on, although there a few artistic liberties here and there. This does not make me mad in the least, if you get the dvd edition, you will see 7 deleted scenes that didn't make it to the theatre (although they are on disk 2, and you do have to work for them), but it is worth it.

For those of you that do not like this movie, then I say you haven't seen it. And if you have seen it and still don't like it, then this is my opinion that I am giving. Either way, I didn't want to spoil the movie for those who may buy it.

Summary: Screwy Special Features
Review: The movie itself gets 5 stars for me. However, the special features get negative stars. Either I'm an idiot, or they are extremely hard to figure out. When I go to Diagon Alley,I can't select any bricks. I press my arrow keys and nothing happens. When I tke the self-guided tour of Hogwarts, I press my arrow keys to move me around and nothing happens. Now I know my remote isn't broken because I can navigate through the main menu just fine with my arrow keys...

Summary: WONDERFUL FILM
Review: I loved this film!!!! The special effects were wonderful.I espesially liked the acting. Every detail was exactly how I had pictured (even the Quidditch feild if you can believe it).I only have one complaint. They mainly focused on Harry,Ron, and Hermione. It would have been better if they put Fred and George more in the movie. They really bring a funny element to the books, they should also with the the movie.
