Rating: Summary: Good movie, difficult DVD package. Review: You'll undoubtedly find plenty to read about the movie itself and the special features of the DVD. It will be mostly good and I agree. So my comments are limited to the DVD packaging, for which I deduct one star. On the plus side, opening the box is an adventure in itself - a box inside of a box which unfolds to reveal flaps which unfold to reveal the two DVDs. Pretty cool. Sadly, the push button releases for the DVDs don't work very well, leaving you to pry the discs out with more force than is comfortable. One of the brittle plastic buttons broke from the case the first time I pushed it -- disappointing. Of course, I wouldn't expect that the quality of a DVD package would influence anyone's buying decision here. I only wish that the folks behind the case would have considered making it as easy to use as it is fun to explore.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fabulous!! Review: In my opinion, this is one of the best movies I have ever seen! I bought the 2-disc DVD set and have watched it 4 times already! I haven't read the books yet and am a little unsure as to whether or not I am going to read them before or after I see the next movies. I think that I will probably break down and read them. The scenery in this movie is absolutly amazing! And the kids that they chose did a very good job. I would recommend this movie to anyone.
Rating: Summary: ok movie but dont recomend it Review: this movie made all the box office records but it wasnt all that great.it followed the book very well but the acting and cast wasnt that great. and the movie went very quick and if u dont pay attention for one second u missed the whole movie. i only recomend this movie if u are a die hard fan of harry potter but if u arent dont only rent the movie not buy it.
Rating: Summary: Movie: 5 stars Extra features: 1 Review: Arguably, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will certainly become an all time classic, in the same vein as the Wizard of Oz. I couldn't wait for my DVD to arrive in the mail...I've been counting down the days! We enjoyed it immensely and can't imagine ever getting tired of seeing it over and over again. However....our excitement at viewing the "extra features" available on the DVD quickly grew to frustration. You are not able to simply select and view the "never before seen footage", as you can on other DVDs. I've since learned this feature is "hidden" somewhere on disc 2...I've also read that children can more easily find this feature...perhaps. My daughter is just as big a fan as I, except that she is only 3 years old, and as intelligent as she is, can not navigate around that DVD, looking for the extra footage. It is most annoying-they should have thought better than to hide what is to be a highly anticipated feature.
Rating: Summary: I give up...Where are the "7 Deleted Scenes?" Review: Granted we just returned from vacation and I only spent 45 minutes or so navigating the two discs, but I'm not seeing the kinds of "extras" I'm used to or that were advertised. What gives?!The movie is great fun for all ages! No home with children (or fun-loving adults) should be without it! Looking forward to the next one!!
Rating: Summary: Movie Excellent, Special Features Complicated Review: WARNING: the three is for the hassle of special features..not the movie itself If you liked the movie...Good. I assume most of you know about it, and I am not going to give you details. What I will say it that the extra features are time consuming and complicated. The deleted scenes require you to find hidden "eastereggs", such as clicking the key in Diagon Ally's Gingotts bank, buying a wand, going back to menu, through all sorts of hidden tasks to finally see the deleted scenes. And if you hit the wrong button...you have to start all over again. AND you must do this every time you put the DVD in to see most of the extra features. Go to dvdeastereggs.com and they will give you more explict instructions on how to accomplish these tasks. The very interactive DVD is well and good for children, but if you'e an adult, until you remember the sequeces and orders you must go through to see anything, expect to be frustrated.
Rating: Summary: Good Movie Marred by Mediocre DVD Review: The movie is good, widescreen is always nice, the bitrate is high, and enough other reviews have been written for content. But the DVD presentation drags the whole rating down. There appears to be a layer transition problem around 28:42. There is no director's commentary. The menu loads are overly long. Most of the extras really aren't that great. And, what is probably the best part of the extras, the deleted scenes, aren't even easily accessible without wasting twenty-five minutes of your life playing mini-games. Get the movie, but don't expect a good DVD design.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant...But Could Have Been A Bit Better Review: The DVD was really great. I'm a big Potter fan and my review is a 100% honest. It was very interactive which made the experience more magical. My favorite things were the deleted scenes, my favorite was the Leg-Locker-Curse scene; the interviews, even though there was a lot of talking it was still very interesting. But there were a few problems with the stuff. First of all they could have included some more deleted scenes; Secondly, in the interviews, they could have talked to the cast as well and showed how some of the effects were made. All in all, it was great fun and worth buying. Thank you, for letting me write this review and expressing my thoughts of the DVD.
Rating: Summary: disc one, golden! Review: I just got this in the mail yesterday, giddy with joy. Watched disc one, and loved it. Tried disc two and was stymied because I dont have a DVD CD Rom for my computer, I cant access alot of the special stuff because of that. The movie however rocked!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter's first year comes home! Review: Harry Potter, the source of mass obsession and hysteria, has finally come to video stores. I ordered my copy of the widescreen edition through Amazon and was excited when it arrived in the mail. I hurriedly took it out of the box and sat down to look at all of the DVD options and extras. The Harry Potter DVD is a two disk set with the movie and trailers on one disk and tours of Hogwarts and Diagon Alley as well as other things to explore on disk two. To this point, I haven't explored all of the options the DVD has to offer, but I have taken a small tour through the Gryffindore Commons. The movie itself is of excellent quality, and the widescreen makes it that much more enjoyable since the movie has a lot of motion made for a big screen. I'm slightly confused about the features this DVD has. I was under the assumption that there was bonus footage and what not, but cannot be found on the second disk. This footage is probably in the movie itself if not hidden somewhere in the DVD menu. For those who have a DVD CD-ROM the second disk has many other things to explore, but sadly I do not own a DVD CD-ROM. Others may experience this problem. Overall, Harry Potter has made it to my home and is proudly displayed in my DVD collection. For those interested in adding this to his collection it is worth to spend a little more for the widescreen edition.
