Review: Great movie, even though it left out a excessive amount of scenes and dialog.

Summary: People making too much out of it
Review: This is a Great movie.

People say they read the book and things were changed, and then they couldn't follow along,..Whiner.

The Puzzles are too tough to reach deleted scenes. blah blah blah.

It's a copy of Lord of the rings, and the person sights the "He who is not named" similarity as an agruement??? Hello, Names being powerful was NOT made up by Tolkien.

People are Really losing sight of the movie in these reviews.

The Movie is very good, and if you don't have Personal problems with the Witch parts of it, it's a great Kids movie that is enjoyable by adults as well. There is good rolemodeling for Kids by the Main characters and it's fun as well.

There are Tons of Xtras in the DvD, though some may force you to Play a Puzzle game, or God forbid, hand the remote to your Kids and Let them Play the puzzle game.

It's a 2 disc DvD for like 16 bucks, of a movie that everyone I know that has seen it said it was good.

Summary: The only man in America . . .
Review: . . . who disliked the DVD as much as he did the film.

A bit of history: when I first heard that J.K. Rowling's series had been optioned for the silver screen, I was ecstatic . . . for about a minute. Then the sensible, cautious moviegoer's instincts about big-budget blockbusters kicked in. "Oh no," I said to myself. "Harry is doomed!"

If you've already seen the movie and loved it, you can stop right here. If you've read the series and haven't seen the movie (I don't know, maybe you live in a cave or were hiking the AT or deeply involved with your bedbug collection and missed it) I'll tell you this: Don't expect the fey, smart-alecky, tongue-trippingly fun-to-read prose to translate at all. It doesn't. It's a worse book-to-film transfer than any Stephen King movie you care to name--and that's sayin' summat!

It begins with the actor portraying Harry Potter. He redefines minimalist performance, using approximately three facial expressions throughout the film: slightly startled, mildly pleased, and semi-awestruck. Moving on to the horribly miscast Richard Harris--Oh Caesar, how thou hast fallen. I expected Dumbledore to be a little more sprightly, and act a little less like he was just bumped off by Joaquin Phoenix. Of all the actors I expected to play McGonagall, Maggie Smith was the last. Want to see Maggie Smith in her element? Try "Gosford Park" or "Room With a View." Alan Rickman as Snape--I liked the idea, but they gave him so little to work with. The movie's Snape was about as malevolent as a mailbox. The best part of Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone was the (computer generated) Quidditch match.

I don't own this DVD. I wouldn't take this DVD for free. The only reason I didn't walk out of this movie in the theater was that I kept thinking, "Okay, but it can't get any worse . . ." My suggestion? Stick to the books. Your imagination and J.K. Rowling's engaging style are way, way better than anything Hollywood could ever come up with. I promise.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I found the movie adaptation of Harry Potter excellent and the special features excellent.
The best thing I loved from this DVD was the way that you can explore some areas of Hogwarts in real life with a rotating camera and not only that, the storyboards they made for most of the sets like the Quidditch game.

The only minor problem with this Dvd is that to find the deleted scenes when you don't know how can be quite difficult.

The only thing I can tell is thaht the place where you have to go to find them after getting your wand is to go in the classrooms area and touch the owl statue on the screen and then on the «H» on the pillar.

Good luck

Summary: Lived up to my expectations
Review: I had read the book and was quite pleasantly surprised at how well done the movie was. Yes, it left out things that it would have been nice to see but a movie can only be so long. I was quite impressed by the actors, especially the kids. They looked just like I pictured them. The sets and costumes were great. I can't wait for future movies.

Summary: Can't Get Enough!
Review: I've been a big fan of the books for quite sometime, and I knew someday a movie would be produced. Now it has. Christopher Columbus has done a wonderful job shaping his cast and weaving magic into this film. It follows the book closely, which, I believe, makes it all the more enjoyable. The cast was carefully chosen and they all performed quite excellently. The cleverness of some of the lines is down right genious. "Now, if you two don't mind, I'm going to bed before either of you comes up with another clever idea to get us killed. Or worse! Expelled!" "She needs to sort out her priorities!" I have to mention Rupert Grint (who plays Ron) most particularly, he did an especially fantastic job. The chess seen was captivating. Daniel Radcliffe was also destined to play the part of Harry Potter, I believe; he has the same birthday! It is a movie for children of all ages; from 8-98, everyone can enjoy it. But I think younger viewers have more of an advantage; they can more easily see and understand all of the magic and it's entirety of the secret world behind Platform 9 and 3/4. I highly recommend this film to all who have an open mind and want to have a good time.

Summary: Ignore the cutsey second disk
Review: Like so many other reviewers, I have to say that I really enjoyed the movie (after all, I watch things to be entertained, not to analyse them). I should have liked to see the deleted scenes integrated into the movie, rather than stuck in some silly game on the other disk, but what the heck? There aren't really worth slogging through the rather clunky interface to get to, although the first (movie) disk is worth watching.

It doesn't seem to matter whether you've read the books first or not -- my husband hadn't, I had, and we both enjoyed the movie about the same. I can only suggest that you remember that all fiction requires a *willing suspension of disbelief* and that this is fantasy written for children. The supporting cast were wonderful, and I think young Radcliffe shows potential. We adults need to remember that this is aimed at kids, who are usually much less critical about detail than we are. A nice flick, worth a second (or third or forth) look.

Summary: Not as good as the books, but still excellent!
Review: It is really dissapointing that this movie does not contain the second Quiditch match against Hufflepuff and misses a lot of other elements of the book, but the movie is very beautiful and interesting.

Summary: Harry Rocks the Stone!
Review: Once again Harry Potter has triumphed over the forces of evil as he moves from paper to the big screen and finally onto DVD. With seven cut scenes and the many possible activities this DVD will keep you and your children entertained for hours as you explore "Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry" and "Diagon Alley", purchase a wand, meet The Sorting Hat and attend classes. Get the scoop on your favorite characters and a sneak peak at "Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets" which is due to be released on the big screen Nov. 15th, 2002. My family and I have spent many hours since the release of this DVD playing the games and watching and rewatching. This is one of the few movies to come out so far this century that I find to actually be worth the money spent.
