Review: Not as good as the book......but a great movie none-the-less! Dan Radcliffe is just WONDERFUL!

Summary: A Fun Romp through the First Year...
Review: This movie is fun, but a bit jumbled. I think they had a bit of difficulty getting everything into the movie they wanted, and they lost some of the coherence of the book's story because of it. However, I would forgive the movie for this, since you still get to visit Hogwarts, meet Dumbledore, and see an owl deliver the mail.

Summary: Wonderful Fantasy for Children and Adults alike.
Review: This is a great movie, it has the excapeism that everyone loves and the adventure we often lack in our own lives. It is wonderful to sit down and excape into this movie. You soon feel you know the characters personally, if you have read any of the books then you are waiting on pins and needles for the new one to be released. The same goes for the next movie, it seems 1 yr. is almost to much, but when it is released and you have seen it at least 4 dozen times it is all worth the wait. I know I am counting the days and re-reading the books I have.

Summary: MAGIC!
Review: We have watched this DVD so many times we know it practically line for line! ...and we haven't tired of it yet. Of course the movie can never be as good as the book ...for one thing it would have had to been a bit longer ...not that we would have minded. The cutting out of some of the book left the movie with a few jumbled scenes that would have made more sense had they been included. Overall though it was a very entertaining movie. One part of the book that I wished was not overlooked was at the end when Hermione guesses the potion part of the spells that were guarding the stone (Snape was credited for his spell to guard the stone in the movie but it wasn't included in the movie). Also why cut out the Peeves character altogether and make the Bloody Baron a laughing fool? Anyways, can't wait for the Chamber of Secrets to come out on DVD!

Summary: I LOVE HARRY POTTER!
Review: Well, there would never be anyway I would ever give this movie lower than five stars, becasue I like everything to do with Harry Potter. I, of course, am Canadian, so I own "Philosopher's Stone," not "Sorcerer's Stone." I'm sure there isn't a difference though.

The casting was great. Rupert Grint is PERFECT for Ron. I honestly don't think they could have found anyone better. Daniel Radcliffe was a good choice for Harry, though I found him more convincing in the second movie. I don't think Emma Watson was a very good choice for Hermione partly because she doesn't fit the description in the books (is that a compliment, or an insult?) and partly because she can't act. Well, I guess all the children are quite good for child actors, Rupert is by far the best though. All the adult roles were cast very well, Robbie Coltrane and Dame Maggie Smith probably being the best.

The only problems I found were not with the movie, but actually with the DVD. I hate how I have to play all those stupid games to get to the deleted scenes. They're very good once you get to them of course, but why would they make me do all of that! Did they think it would be fun? Oh well. Basically the movie is great, perfect. The only thing better is the book!! So everyone, be sure to get "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone" (the movie and the book) especially if you have kids!

Summary: Lifeless Adaption of Spectacular Book
Review: Truly a bad movie, made all the more disappointing for the clunky, unimaginative way it tackles its subject: one of the most delightful and imaginative creations to come around in a long time. The sets uniformly resemble prebuilt facades at Disney World, and the pacing and direction are plodding and second-rate. Nowhere in this movie do you find yourself lifted out of your seat and truly engaged; one is always aware that they are watching the ponderous and effortful attempt to recreate the book. The movie has no magic of its own. One example is the wonderful secene from the book where the Sorting hat picks Harry for Gryffindor; in the book this scene is enthralling; in the movie, it has no zing. The spectacle of the hat with an animated mouth is silly, and actually detracts from the notion that the battered old hat has hidden, mystical powers which Harry can only sense (and who's voice he can only hear) when he slips it on and is plunged into the inner dark world of the Hat. (The hat in the book has no mouth.) There were a million different interesting and creative ways of depicting this scene cinematically and Mr. Columbus, the director, has exhibited the anti-genius to find one of the more drab approaches to it. (if only Terry Gilliam had been picked to direct the movie; he was in the running; but then the film might not yet be finished . . . .) The kids' acting is good, particularly those of the kids playing Ron and Hermione, although there are times when you're only too aware of the mimitations of the young cast. The adults are fine, with the best performances coming from Alan Rickman and Robbie Coltrane as Professor Snape and Hagrid, respectively, but they're not around enough.

My 7 year old son, who loved the books and claimed to LOVE the movie, was squiriming in his seat by the end of this overly-long movie; and now that we own it, he never watches it at all.

Read the book instead.

Summary: O.k movie but not as good as Star Wars.
Review: The Actors in this mvie were very, very good. At least the director of this movie can direct children.(Unlike Lucas.)That is one quality that makes this movie better than Star Wars. But actually this movie is pretty much like Star Wars. The special effects are pretty much equal. Except some in this movie are a little more gross than Star Wars. Like when Dudley gets his pigtail. But one thing I like about this movie better than Star Wars is, it is a little darker and more scary. I think this movie(like Star Wars is good for ages 10 and up like most movies of today. Some I don't even think are good for me to watch. This is one that's ok. Well I have to close this review and do some more important things. This movie is a really good one and it would be a shame to miss.

Summary: Special Effects
Review: Everybody loves special effects in the movies, but these Harry Potter films have one special effect parents are missing. When the movie is over the seeds of witchcraft are planted into the mind of their child and a wicked life will result. What evil goes in, will come out. Repackaged witchcraft for children, that's all it is. For example; many convicts in prison practice witchcraft with many wizard tatoos and demonic symbols. There is no such thing as good witchcraft as this movie tries to portray. The special effect is yet to be an unpleasant surprise upon the next generation having grown up with witchcraft firmly implanted and recognized as harmless fun. The crime level is going to rise. Just look at the evil spells the Harry Potter movie uses to propel the plot; drinking blood and other witchcraft evils. Hardly innocent and harmless! Is this what you want your children to watch? Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.

Summary: Excellent
Review: The only thing better than the movie is the book. Perfectly cast, and perfectly played. One of the best DVDs of the year, along with Fellowship and Signs (2003).

Summary: Brilliant Stuff
Review: Harry Potter is one of the most enchanting of the last 4 years. Like they say, you cant doubt the oranges on the lemon tree.

Harry Potter was the silver lining in a smoky cloud of movie madness and mediocre. It is a movie to be treausured by the young, old and the imbetween.

It is to watch with wisdom and power, not to mention joy and popcorn and sorrow at times.

Listen to these words and you have not seen the light of Harry Potter yet, then you are missing out on a must.
