Summary: nothing special
Review: nothing special, a normal child's movie, the only reason it got nominated for the oscars is because the book is famous. badly edited. the cast was mostly pretty good, but emma watson as hermione? the girl cannot act. she emphasizes ever word she says so that it is more like a naughty laugh track show than a real movie. disappointment galore.

Summary: I loved this, despite having never read the books!
Review: I took my daughter to see this, and loved it so much that I bought it on DVD. It's delightfully imaginative, the special effects are well done, and it's one of the few movies starring children that doesn't make you want to strangle the snotty little children's characters. The casting in this was perfect, and we've watched it many times. This will make any adult feel like a kid again!

Summary: The special features live up to the quality of the movie
Review: I really felt that this DVD lived up to what I had hoped it would be. While the movie was excellent and caused me to read the entire series, I had high hopes for the DVD. I was not disappointed. The extra features that require you to go through Diagon Alley and Hogwarts were a treat and captured the playful essence of this fun movie.

Summary: A pleasant surprise!
Review: I never read any of the Potter books and really had no intention of. My friends all told me they were great but I thought they were for children for some odd reason. So I picked up the movie and was surprised that the movie was well done. It was entertaining and very interesting. I thought the effects were great and even though it was up against Lord of the Rings I think it stands on it's own as a good movie. If you like fantasy and friendly characters definately pick this one up.

Summary: Harry Potter and the spell over kids
Review: I can never understand the attraction to Harry Potter. While I'm no longer a child, I still enjoy child-oriented films and I know even when I was young, I would never had enjoyed Harry Potter. The film just bored me.

My biggest concerns revolve around the blatant way witchcraft is flaunted around. This is not like the tales of Narnia (a superior series of books) or even the "Wizard of Oz" where magic is part of the story not the predominant aspect. Harry Potter glorifies witchcraft and encourages kids to become involved, going so far as to teach them the basics of Wicca. Wizard of Oz did not "teach" witchcraft. The Warner Brothers website for Harry Potter has a link for kids to enroll in the school of wizardry.

Harry Potter attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and learns to cast spells, make potions, use divination and the make up of a witches broom. They also talk to the dead and use sorcery routinely. They are introduced to animal/human sacrifice, drinking blood, Mother Goddess theories, evolution, reincarnation, divination, demon possession, Celtic and Druid religions and even Satanism.

A child reading the books will learn witchcraft as if they were studying Wicca. The only difference in Harry Potter is that the spells are "made up" words in Latin with a humorous touch, but are not real spells. However, the intrigue leads the child to wanting to learn the same things as Harry, which can lead them to learn correct spells on witchcraft websites linked to Harry Potter. If the interest is there and a child gets excited about learning to be "like Harry", they will find a way to learn sorcery.

This is why those who practice witchcraft and Wicca are so excited about the "positive" attention that Harry Potter is bringing to them.

There is a prevailing shadow of death that hangs over much of the storytelling. This is not a light happy world, but a landscape clouded by gloom and murder. J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, herself admitted in a recent interview that "death and bereavement and what death means, I would say, is one of the central themes in all seven books." Yeah, and this is what we want kids to see? I don't think so.

These are concerns for me as a parent and it should be a concern for anyone afraid that their child could do more than enjoy this film and books as entertainment.

Summary: Phase Three
Review: However artfully veiled it may be, it cannot be denied that this film is the next step in a government conspiracy to confuse America's youth into putty that the government can mold to it's will! They throw these dark references at the audiences, yet make light of it all. How can it be anything but an attempt to soften our youth up to the ideas that the government will be forcing upon them once they go into Phase Four of The Demosthenes Plan? Boycott this film or free speech and, dare I say it, free thought shall be destroyed!

Summary: The end of my imagination
Review: Hello everyone
My name isn't important, and I will just make this simple. I don't like the movie because I think it ended the reader's imagination. Before the movie, I have no doubts that everyone has their own version of Hogwarts in their brains, and it was fun to share. But now, I may say, we have to accept it the way it is. I guess this happens when fame arrives.
Anyways, the film is fantastic, and I really like the performance of Daniel Radcliffe. I'm sure the naxt one will be better and better.
Thanks,
A Reader and Fan of Harry Potter

Summary: Great Movie, Lousy Packaging
Review: This movie has gorgeous cinemetography. The script is light and fluffy, much like the first book of the series (like The Hobbit vs. The Lord of the Rings trilogy). I found the movie very enjoyable (4 stars).

The dvd's were packaged in a cheap, cheezy paper box slipped into an even cheezier paper box (1 star). The package wasn't sealed... You have to be careful how you hold the box or the disks can fall out onto the ground. I only got the movie to add to my collection, and was very disappointed to see it come in such cheap packaging. ..

Summary: saw 1 year too late
Review: Excellent movie!
I saw this against my will at my aunt's house as there was nothing else on TV and I thought I would get to fall asleep early. I was tired. I never read the book and hate trends. Being Oppositionally Defiant, I definately protested this movie but gave in for a good snooze. I absolutely fell in love with this movie and needless to say stayed up until the credits rolled; rewinding parts my aunt talked through. I'm 31 years old and feel that this is a movie for the ages. This is a definate must see!!!!!

Summary: ok. not that great
Review: If you know me, you know Im a sucker for a good book. And the book was pretty good. The movie was amusing, and had some deacent effects. But it didnt match the book.

All in all, worth watching, not worth buying till you can get the set. The second movie is easily 5 times better. if that trend continues, the next movie will be pretty darn good.
