Rating: Summary: Exellent...the First Family Classic of the 21st Century! Review: This movie is superb! The actors are great, they fit the exellent descriptions that J.K. Rowling gives them in the book. I reccomend you read the books before seeing the movie, it'll make more sence that way.I went to see this with my dad an my brother and we all loved it! I noticed that they left out some parts in the movie that are in the book. I guess they skipped some parts so it wouldn't be an unbearably long movie. It's long as it is, 2 and a half hours long. If they left those parts in it would be more like 3 and a half hours! If you're a parent and your kids are just DYING to see it, don't hesitate! If you think you won't like it, I can almost assure you that after you take your kids to see it, you will want to see it again! Although, I wouldn't reccomend taking little kids that are sensitive. There are some pretty scary moments in the movie. This is an all-out awsome movie. If you haven't seen it yet, go see it! You'll want to buy it on video or DVD and keep it in your movie collection forever!
Rating: Summary: One of the best book to screen adpatations yet. Review: Harry Potter was on my top 10 films to see this year, right behind Steven Spielberg's A.I. The book series of Harry Potter reintroduced me to stories that I had been missing since I last read "The Neverending Story." The basic concept of a world where almost anything seemed possible. But like many people, I was skeptical. After all, there's only so much that you can put onto a film, and there are the worries that studios will cut items here and there. But all in all, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone (or Philosopher's Stone, depends where you live), is one of those films that I found quite enjoyable. We all know the main prospects of the plot, so i won't rehash them. But in truth, thumbs up go to Chris Columbus and J. K. Rowling. A lot of people I knew thought Columbus would ruin the film, but he had a conscience hanging over him. Actually, Rowling's guiding eye, as well as Columbus' daughters, who wanted to see the film done right. The acting was incredible in several instances. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson all play the roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermoine (pronounced Her-my-knee) Granger to a unprecedented talent. Grint was exactly as I had pictured Ron while reading the books. Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid was a tough sell for me to believe, but after seeing him, I'm convinced that Noone could play Hogwart's Gamekeeper any better than Coltrane. production design is also stellar, as the world unfolds at Hogwarts Castle to an incredible degree. Paintings come alive, ghosts fly here and there, and much more that cannot be described here. As for my 4-star rating, Harry Potter lost a star due to the compositing of some of the visual effects, as well as several little errors. 1) The visual effects for the grand Quidditch Match were great, but they needed that one extra step towards perfection. There are also some instanes, where the people's reactions seem to be a little off after the compositing of effects. 2)Voice-dubbing also is a problem. during filming, Radcliffe's voice changed, and another child-actor filled his vocal role. However, the voice stands out in several action sequences, because it just doesn't fit. But still, I'll leave this review on an up-note. Columbus stayed about 86% tgrue to the story, cutting out sequences that really didn't help continue the narrative along, as well as cutting down the number of trials in order to find the Sorcerer's Stone. The film's core audience are fans of the books, but there is still enough feeling to take someone who has not seen it.
Rating: Summary: i cant wait to see it again... Review: this was an excellent movie! i went to see it twice. i thought that chris columbus directed the movie wonderfully! i didnt see many changes from the book, if any at all. i would definately recommend going to see this movie, if u havent already. i am now reading the fourth book for the 2nd time. if u havent read the book yet, i would say that is a definate, if you are a true harry potter fan like me!
Rating: Summary: Great Review: This movie was excellent, excellent cast, music, scenes, special effects, director, etc. Nothing more to say! GO SEE THIS MOVIE IF YOU HAVEN'T, follows the book pretty good, too!
Rating: Summary: Awesome Movie As Well As Tomb Raider! Review: I went to go see this hoping to get a seat and I did. The theaters were packed even one week after the film came out. Well, anyway the story goes right along with the book J.K. Rowling wrote. The book I believe is almost exactly like the movie. I liked Hermione Granger the most because she was smart and sassy and in a way she had an attitude that would make anyone kind of go nuts. She was good as well as the person who played Harry Potter. Draco Malfoy was good to, but he was kind of jealous and selfish at the same time. You did a good job though. I hope to see if another one of these Harry Potter films will come out soon again!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a truly wonderful film, one of the best I've seen in a while. Nearly everything is well done, and on top of that, it's extremely faithful to the book for the most part. Harry Potter is an 11-year old boy who lives in the cupboard under the stairs with the Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon Dursley and their brat of a son, Dudley. The Dursley's are Harry's only living relatives, since his parents were murdered by the evil Lord Voldemort, but Harry, miraculouosly, survived. Then one day he receives a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and after being taken from his wretched relatives by the Keeper of the Keys at Hogwarts, Ruebus Hagrid, Harry buys his school supplies at Diagon Alley in London and after that it's off to Hogwarts. There he makes friends with Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, and develops a rivalry with the sinister Draco Malfoy. I won't include anymore in the plot description, since I've gone on far too long already. One the the biggest strenghts of Harry Potter is its cast, led by the three young leads, who are perfect in their portrayals(the standout is Grint) and the teaching staff, with a terrific, scene-stealing turn by Alan Rickman as Proffesor Severus Snape. Maggie Smith (Professor Minerva McGonagall) and Richard Harris (Headmaster Albus Dumbledore) lend their charisma, as do Warwick Davis (Professor Filius Flitwick) and Ian Hart (Professor Quirrel). Robbie Coltrane is superb as Hagrid. The production values, as you'd expect, are top-notch, with beautiful photography, dazzling special effects, and splendid art direction. At 2 1/2 hours, this seems shorter than it is. Though the film altogether is stellar, there are a few standout setpieces, such as the spectacular, high-flying Quidditch game and the wizard's chess battle near the end of the film. John Williams contributes an especially fine score that heightens the atmosphere and excitement level. The film, however, is not without a few minor flaws. 1-During the final scenes involving Harry, Ron, and Hermione's attempts to reach the Stonr=e, I believe that the potions riddle and fires should have been included in place of Devil's Snare or the charmed keys. 2- In the book, Voldemort's face is supposed to be very frightening, with stark whiteskin, glowing red eyes, and slits for nostrils like a serpents. In the film, its not scary at all, except maybe for easliy frightened youngsters. Overall, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is an exceptionally well-crafted, beautifully made film and does the book justice.
Rating: Summary: Magic Review: This was terrific! Not quite 5 stars but a package of Effects, drama, humor.WAY TOO DARK AND SCARY FOR 5 AND UNDER!
Rating: Summary: Best movie in a very long time. Very pleasant surprise. Review: I never read the Harry Potter books. I loved this movie. All books are "better" than all movies. All child actors are a little stiff. If you demand the world from any movie, you'll be dissappointed. I loved this movie. Ever since they refurbished Mann's Chinese and changed the name back to Graumann's, I've wanted to catch a film there and see how it looks. But for months, they've only been showing utter crap there. I didn't have high expectations from this film, but I figured it would be cute and fun, at least better than men on steroid shooting at helicopters. I was very pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it was. I loved this movie. This movie won't make you a smarter, it won't make you a better person, and it won't make the world a better place - well, maybe just a little better. Because it's fun. I loved this movie. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who isn't planning to take it terribly seriously. I loved this movie. I loved it so much, I went back to see it again the next evening. That's how much fun it was.
Rating: Summary: super duper! Review: if you r looking for a good decent enjoyable film this will be the one for you. This movie is fantastic. This is one of the best two movies i have seen. The first one was EVOLUTION.If you liked evolution then you must be looking foward to see this film
Rating: Summary: For those who didn't read the book... Review: I have not read the books, though I'm sure they're very good. If like me, you have not read the books, the movie should come off as entertaining and just fine. Some however, seem to compare this movie with the books like the books are the bible. The moviemakers did a good job from the movie perspective.
