Rating: Summary: Wonderful, but not perfect. Review: I was eagerly awaiting the release of this movie. I annoyed my wife to no end by getting home from a business trip at 7pm on 16th of Nov, and wanting to go right back out and see the film. We both loved the film and feel that Diagon-alley couldn't have been done better. However, both my wife and I feel that some more money could have been spent in pursuit of better special effects. The Quidditch sequences were awesome. I feel that they did a beautiful job of capturing the energy that I envisioned a Quidditch match would be played with. Unfortunately, that was marred whenever I would see one of the players rendered in a rather stiff and obviously CGI manner. Firenze the centaur was equally as disappointing. I hope that the ball isn't dropped in the future movies on special effects. If nothing else, the response to the first should be enough to persuade the producers to hire ILM to handle the special effects. All this aside, GO SEE THE MOVIE! No matter how disappointed I was with some of effects, I still loved the movie and will be buying it the moment it is released on DVD.
Rating: Summary: A New Classic for this Century! Review: I read the first four Harry Potter books because I was curious. What was all the fuss about? I am hooked, enchanted, and eager for more. I decided to take two of my grandchildren to see the movie during Thanksgiving holidays. While, I am sure, they didn't quite grasp everything, they were mesmerized by the wonderful special effects and the characters themselves. Critics who are afraid that children should not read these books or see the film are forgetting that this is fantasy. In my generation we read Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, etc. and they are now classics for all children to read and see. Even without the movie, children all over the world are able to experience the delights and magical world of Harry Potter. Just think of all the children who weren't reading, and are now eager to read more.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter Works His Magic On-Screen! Review: Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone movie is an excellent movie, but the book was definitely better. The movie's characters were cast well and the acting is great but the book was more interesting and clearer to the imagination, plus THEY CUT PEEVES!
Rating: Summary: must see Review: i went to the premier and i thought it was great.they were good actors and it was sooo much better than the books.i was lucky to get tickets before it even came out.
Rating: Summary: GOOD BUT DOESN'T DO THE MOVIE JUSTICE Review: I READ TOLKIENS SERIES IN HIGH SCHOOL SO IT STOOD TO REASON THAT I WOULD READ ROWLINGS SREIES. NEEDLESS TO SAY I LOVED THE BOOKS AND HAVE READ THEM TO MY KIDS SO THEY GET THE JIST OF THE STORY NOT JUST READ THE BOOK. MY DAUGHTER LIKES IT MY SON IS FASCINATED BY IT. I LIKED THE MOVIE BUT AS MOST MOVIES OF GOOD BOOKS TEND TO BE DOOMED FOR, IT DIDN'T QUIE STAND AND DELIVER. IT TOLD THE JIST OF THE STORY AND TRULY ALLOWED US TO SEE QUIDDITCH FOR WHAT IT REALLY WAS(I'D LOVE TO PLAY IF I WAS A KID) A GREAT GAME, BUT IT FELL A LITTLE SHORT IN OTHER AREAS SUCH AS SHOWING THE REAL SPLENDOR OF HOGWARTS AND AND TRUE VILENESS OF VOLDEMORT. I THINK THE CONCEPTS OF HARRY'S SUFFERING AND VOLDOMORTS EVIL WEREN'T DEVELOPED ENOUGH. THESE SHOW THE SACRIFICE HARRY'S MOTHER REALLY MADE AND HOW LOVE CONQUERS ALL. I THINK THIS IS WHAT MOST OF THE RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY IS MISSING ABOUT THE WHOLE STORY.
Rating: Summary: HARRY POTTER A MUST SEE ! Review: THE HARRY POTTER MOVIE REALLY KEPT TO THE BOOK. IT WAS GREAT FOR MY WHOLE FAMILY AGES FROM 9 - 53. WE ALL ENJOYED IT AND THE SPECIAL EFFECT WERE ALSO VERY GOOD. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT HARRY POTTER MOVIE TO COME OUT.
Rating: Summary: The Magical World Review: The magical world begins with Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a very good movie and if you haven't seen it, you should see it soon! Some parts are scary, but most of them are pretty good. With Hagrid as the gameskeeper at Hogwarts, it seems as no big animal can get in without Hagrid noticing it. Malfoy seems like a really big bully, but he really is a big scaredy cat! I really liked this movie!!
Rating: Summary: Harry is Lennon is McCartney is Clark Kent Review: Enjoy the magic. Enjoy the art. Art. Is. Magic. If you take kids, hold their hands during the scary parts (snakes, dogs, trolls). And laugh to show it's OK.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter, the pits... Review: I fail to see what all the hoop de rah is all about. This film had me yawning from beginning to end. And I could hardly wait for it to end. Sure, it's true I'm not a kid anymore, but I can't imagine what the children see in it. As my husband put it (and HE actually enjoyed it), they certainly saved on lighting. The film is dark, literally, for the most part with a weak, standard formula type plot, although parts such as the lifesize chess game and the quidditch match added a breath of fresh air to a stale story fabricated for the most part on the genre-specific backdrops and props (i.e. stepping into the wizard's world with its associated paraphernalia). One older couple walked out in the middle of the movie. The couple we were with and I would've liked to have done the same.
Rating: Summary: Positively SMASHING! Review: A magnifcent movie. I'd say more, but unfortunately, there aren't enough adjectives to say what I wish to say. Everyone did a good job in the movie, and nothing better can be expected. My personal favorite, was Snape (I'm formerly a Sirius Black fan). Rickman is a darling, and he was PERFECT in his part. The movie followed the book as well as it could. Some critics say the movie takes on a "list-like feeling", but I don't see that happening (not in the 4 times I've gone). Even if the movie is as they say, they would probably complain if the movie was too far off the book, saying it was crazy and out in left field.A job well done!
