Summary: Urgh! NO!
Review: This movie is missing everything that is loved by readers of the book. Despite the fact that comign up wiht unknown actors who were British sounded like a good idea, the kids just don't cut it. The script is lacking some of the better moments of the book, and the subtelties that the book had are losed in the movie. The emotion is all gone in a movie that was made mostly for money. If you want it, rent it. But read the books first.

Summary: A good translations from the book
Review: Okay, many of you will be saying that the movie did not translate well from the book. My 12 yr old daughter would probably agree. But when one analyses it, it would have been impossible to incorporate so much from the book into the movie and keep it to a reasonable length. This must have been a huge dilemma for the directors and producers, "what to put in the movie". When one accepts this and focuses on the content of the movie, I don't think you can help but be pretty impressed with it. Bringing to life Harry Potter and his world was accomplished very well in my opinion. I found the movie atmospheric and I was drawn into his world. This to me is the mark of a good movie. I loved the settings and the overall colour of the movie. I thought the acting was okay, nothing to rave about, but adequate. I have seen the movie twice with my kids and I enjoyed it both times. I have a small collection of DVD's and I'm quite discerning about what I buy. This DVD will be joining the collection.

Review: this movie is great for everyone all over the world!this movie is especially great for BIG harry potter fans like me! this movie is the first out of 7 movies. the movie is so much alike the book. it's the beginning of harry's wizard training. the actors are great! very much alike the characters of the book. the movie starts with the beating of lord voldemort. he the lives with his aunt and uncle. then he finds out he's a wizard from Hagrid. he then begins his training sorted into gryfindor. he then finds himself face-to-face to lord voldemort is a great movie and we should all see it

Summary: Okay
Review: I never read the book but as a movie there are promblems with its translation to screen. While the story is basically good the exposition takes a really long time. By the time you get to the main conflict it feels somewhat thrown in and resolved quickly. Unfortunately the movie was marketed to fans of the book who are mostly too young to sit through a movie longer than 2 hours. Harry Potter probably needed about 3 hours or a more efficiant filmaker. It seems like they wanted to include everything from the books opening but ran out of alotted time or money when the conflict arose.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: Sure, the movie is missing some things, but if they put everything in it would be a 4 hour movie! It was well worth the wait and I am so excited to have it on DVD. It is a family movie and you can understand it if you have or have not read the books. It is clearly one of the best movies of it's time!

Summary: Complementary Book and Movie
Review: I'll admit it, I'm 24 and I really liked this movie. The best way to describe The Sorcerer's Stone is that it's Lord of the Rings, for kids. It holds the excitement, the adventure, the magic, and the drama expected of it by its target audience; and you have to expect that if you're and older viewer. However, it's not ridiculously simplistic to the point of annoying and alienating an older viewers. Also, rather than completely copying the first book, it complements it wonderfully, IMHO. Where the book gives one viewpoint, the movie occasionally takes a different slant or viewpoint, and together they (the book and movie) blend into a better understanding of an event.

My brother who is an avid fan of the books told me flat-out that there was no way he was going to see the movie when it came out. He didn't want to see what other people created; he wanted to keep his version Harry Potter's universe tucked away in his own imagination. That and he wanted to avoid the hype particularly if the movie was a bomb. In the meantime, the movie opened and several friends told me that I absolutely had to see it. Hmm, I figure if a bunch of 20-30 something year old RPGers are wild about a movie directed at the preteen crowd, I may as well try it. After days of cajoling, I finally talked my brother into watching it with me. Occasionally, during the movie he'd comment. "I didn't think of it that way...WOW!" At the end, his only comments were "We're buying this when it comes out. Don't they usually add deleted scenes on the DVDs? That'll rock! When does the next one hit theatres?" I had to chuckle.

I had never read any of the books before the movie, but was inspired to borrow my brother's copies for a weekend. That is when I noticed how well the movie and book complement each other. If you want to buy something for a kid or a kid at heart, I would have to suggest buying the first book and the movie and presenting them as a gift set. I enjoyed them individually. Together, I loved them.

Summary: Superior FAMILY Movie
Review: I am a 41 year mother of a 9 year old son and we both loved this movie!!! I can personally say that I can hardly wait for the DVD to come out. We saw it at the movies "3" times!!! Yes, it is that good!!! I read the book along with my son and I can honestly say this, the movie was EXACTLY like the book. The actors all did a fantastic job! I wish that I could say who was the best but they really were all that good. I was surprised that it didn't get any Oscar nominations. It is definitely a warm hearted movie with supsense and drama mixed in. Buy the movie, get some popcorn, your family and friends and enjoy a great family evening together.

Summary: Best movie
Review: I think it's cool. I think Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone plus all the books are the best books I have ever read. I think the movie should have two quiddich matches against Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw-one match is just boring-Don't you think?

Summary: New or old?
Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: An amazing book! Most of the country, and a large percent of the world has read it. Perhaps thats what took away from the movie, that I knew what was around every corner. Oh, its not that the actual movie is bad, its just that so many people are familiar with the story already that it doesn't really have the same affect as if you had never heard the plot before. Using actual places, and incredible graphics to illistrate the story in a realistic way doesn't even begin to compare to our imagination. If you haven't already seen it i suggest that you rent it first, because by the second time you see it there is no surprise.

Summary: Harry Potter Rules!!!
Review: I love this movie. The special effects are great. It's even better because all the actors are really British. I've love the way the directer stays true to the books. That is a plus for sure.
