Summary: compared to the book.. .
Review: this was a good movie. however if you are looking for an excellent companion for the book, this is not it. the book is so much better than this adaption of the movie, that it makes the movie look terrible in comparison. too much of important character elements were left out in order for certain jokes to make sense to anybody other than those that had read the book. when i walked out of the theater i was thoroughly disapointed by the fact that if you hadnt read the book, there wouldve been no way to understand the movie. this movie in itself had good special effects but when compared to the masterful effects written by j.k. rowling, they look pathetic. if you are a die hard fan of the book, i do not reccommend the movie

Review: I think Harry Potter and the aorcers stone is a great movie for kids and adults.Out of the movies I've seen about magic this was probably the best.It is everythinga movie needs,it has magic,action,mystery,and drama.That is why this is a great all out movie.If your a kid or an adult you should see this movie.

Summary: What an event!
Review: This film is an event for people of all ages. It's imagination is brought to life by director Chris Colombus. He does a splendid job in directing the children, as he does in all his movies. The story takes a real twist at the end, as all novel readers know, but the film itself is appreciateable in it's humor that is given off by the great child actors.The child acting, at some points, only falls down to decent, but most of the time is terriffic. The visuals tend to lack at points, the troll, who is supposed to be about five tons, looks weightless because it's computer generated imagery doesn't seem completed. I believe visual effects teams will improve that in the future though. Of course, John Williams blows us away with his Oscar nominated score and left people of all ages humming the theme as they left the theater. It was memorable and me and my friends counted how many times we got chills in the theater just from the exciting score. It's an exciting movie, full of suprises, absolutely great acting, and one to be considered an all-time classic. It lives up to the book and I sometimes find it scary how the artists of this film managed to depict the characters exactly how I imagined them when I read the book. It is overwhelming how they truly bring J.K. Rowling's vision to life. And, I have seen the poster for Chamber of Secrets, and Dobby is exactly the way I imagined him. These artists freak me, but I love them for it. Splendid job, great film, definetly see it if you haven't. And don't bother renting it, just buy it, cause it's worth every penny.

Summary: It Gets People to Read! What's Not to Like?
Review: As a librarian, I have naturally been aware of the Harry Potter phenomenon for quite a while now. While there may be a few of my colleagues out there who are not so wild about "Harry," nearly all welcome the enthusiasm the series has engendered and remain ever hopeful that some of those reluctant readers in their communities (adults as well as children) might become absorbed in the series and inspired to read more and more "Harry," then maybe seek out similarly themed books and then, if the ball really gets rolling, discover a whole world of reading above, beyond but still including fantasy. It could happen. You never know. We guardians of the printed word have to put our faith in something. OK,OK I must confess, from everything I'd heard and read, "Harry" wasn't likely to be my own particular cup of English tea. So after all these years, I still haven't actually read it. I'm not a children's librarian, so it wasn't an absolute must. Certainly, I was intrigued by the whole phenomenon but just not in any hurry to read it myself. Not when there's so much depressing adult literature to plow through. So when the film version came out, I thought it would be a good way to get a feel for what this Harry thing was all about. The fact that it was reported to be quite faithful to the book made checking out the film version all the better. Now I could fake my way through lengthy (and they do tend to be lengthy)conversations with Harry-Potter-Heads if I had to. It still took me nearly six months to see the film. Locally, it wasn't around as long as I thought it was going to be. Finally, on its second or third run, I was able to catch it...at a drive-in! (Yes, there are still some left here in the Northeast). It turned out to be the perfect setting, watching this elaborate fantasy unfold while sitting in my own private bubble. (I may have been the only person who ever went to a drive-in ALONE). But it was good, kind of like the solitary pleasure of reading. I'm half-kidding when I say that the movie's literalness was a plus. I'm sure there are Potter fans out there who would have welcomed something not quite as faithful to a text they already knew by heart. But when you consider how young (or, at least, young at heart) so many of the readers are, and how none of us likes his fairy tales altered one jot, the film version's slavishness to the original was probably the only possible artistic choice. Any criticisms? Well, yeah. Child actors need special coaching. I'm not one who believes that there are only a few exceptional Haley Joel Osments or Hayley Millses out there. But they do need special care from their drama coaches and directors. This is especially true when they're required to deliver "adult-level" dialog. It's not surprising that these young sorcerers have exceptional vocabularies: they're SUPPOSED to be special, but in fact, much of the scripted dialog does not come trippingly off the young actors' tongues. If that's the worst I can say about the movie though, it's not saying much. Enjoy the film! And its no doubt worthy sequels. And don't forget to read the BOOKS! (Do as I say, kids, not as I do.)

Review: I can't believe anyone would not like the movie. Granted I understand that it was not exactly like the book, but if it had been then it would be at least 4 hours long. How many kids do you know tha tcan sit still for that long. Anyways I thought it was pure magic and I enjoyed for the way it made me feel.

Review: I've seen this movie 3 times now. I think it's very well done and the acting is great. Can't wait for the next movie and 5th book to come out. My son and I have a special time together when we read or watch Harry Potter.

Summary: It could have been better
Review: The movie of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was, without a doubt, quite overrated. The book allowed one to reach into their minds and imagine the school and the setting, but the movie showed it to you and made you think less of the great excitement and more of the "cool special effects." This is a problem because in the book there were no special effects- just excitement, creativity, and MAGIC. On the other hand, that's how movies are. If they didn't come out and show you the setting they may as well have photocopied the book and recorded it. The movie can't be really blamed for that. Although it seemed like the movie creators were showing off at some parts (like when Harry, the main character, was so modestly lost and how poor he was at his old home) the special effects and ideas of the story were pretty good. They could have chosen a wider variety of music- it got a little annoying, and, as many of our young viewers would point out, "corny." But it was nice music- there isn't really much more to say. Anyway, if you were thinking about getting this movie, you'd be better off waiting for Star Wars: Episode 2 or The Lord of the Rings to come out. Or you could read the books- they are much better than the movie.

Review: This movie is very good if you haven't read the book. While staying somewhat true to the book i was disappointed.i felt it left out or changed some of the best parts of the book and leaves out some major details from the book.
