Summary: Both versions are in the "Widescreen Collector's Edition"
Review: Perhaps ... cross-posts customer reviews on different products, but while reading the reviews shown for E.T. Widescreen Collector's Edition, I got annoyed how many people were saying they didn't like the effects in the 2002 version. If that's the case, then just watch the 1982 version that comes with this package. See the "product details" -- Disc 2 has the 1982 version..without the CGI, without the bathtub scene, and without the "terrorist" comment edited.

Summary: E.T arrives home
Review: There are a lot of reviews about this DVD and they are on the right track ( at least the positive reviews anyway) I dont have time to read the 180+ reviews so I may be repeating something that may have already been said but I just want to point out that I really liked the menu feature on disk 1 ( 2002 release version) that allows you ro listen to the music that was recorded live when the movie premiered in March for the Special Olympics benefit. Not only do you hear the music as it was performed in front of the audience, you also get to hear the cheers and clapping of the audience which I thought was neat and as John Williams says, he believes that nothing like that has ever been done before. Even if hit has been done, it was excellent. A great way to watch the masterpiece. My one and only complaint about the DVD was that the original 1982 trailer
was not on the disk along with the teaser for the 2002 release. Guess I'll have to keep my Laserdisc version.

Summary: E.T. Finally on DVD - 10 Weeks Only!!!
Review: This is definitely the best DVD purchased so far. Contains extra features including John Williams Live score track, Making of Featurette, Reunion Featurette, and much more. Just as a footnote, both versions Theatrical and 2002 version contain Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 even though the back of the container states Dolby Surround for Disc 2. It is also included with the theatrical version as well as Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 sound.

This is one of my favorite films of all time and always makes me cry during the last 30 minutes. It is for all members of the family young and old and is multi-cultural. I plan on keeping this DVD for as long as it will last.

Summary: Be CAREFUL Opening the DVD!!
Review: Be careful because the security stickers that seal the DVD when removed can also take away part of the packaging. Many people have been complaining about how the outside of the package is all TORN because of these stickers, and I'm one of them. Be careful, and take it slow when you are removing these 3 sucurity stickers.

Its a shame that this has happened, otherwise:

THIS MOVIE IS AWESOME!!!

Summary: A Home Theater System owner's delight
Review: The extra quality and features on this DVD make it worth the wait for the 20th annivesary of the film to make it available in this format. This is such a classic story and John Williams' soundtrack helps drive it -- so the music enhancements alone make it worth investing in this DVD. The live performance of the soundtrack option is fantastic and a one-of-a-kind feature. Throw in that it also includes the original E.T. release on Disc 2 (in simple Dolby Surround) and it's an even better deal. I'd rate it a must buy for any John Williams soundtrack fan as well.

Summary: E.T. on DVD!
Review: First let's put aside the hysteria over which versions of ET will be included on this DVD. Universal has wisely included the original 1982 version and the high tech 2002 rerelease giving fans a choice of what they want to watch (no doubt most fans will stick with the original). The movie is still a lot of fun to watch after all these years. After putting twenty years under my belt since the first time I saw this movie in 1982 the ending is more poignant. The movie looks and sounds great. This was a really nice transfer. Besides the live performance of John William's orchrestra from the Shrine Auditorium the extra's are nothing to write home about. I would give this DVD a five star review however, the packaging [stinks]. This is not a clamshell, but a rather flimsy cardboard package.

Summary: THE GOOD, THE BAD, &THE VERY BAD...
Review: The only good thing about this special edition is that the original movie is on the second disk. Granted, I did enjoy some of the added scenes with E.T., but overall the digital removal of weapons in the film is an insult to those of us who know how to raise our kids properly and can teach them the difference between real and fake and right or wrong. And also, the removal of weapons destroys the element of fear and belief in the reality side of the film. I mean come on... making friends with an extra terrestrial is more believeable than feeling threatened by cops weilding walkie talkies!

Summary: ET at its best!
Review: This edition contains both the original and retouched version of the film; both versions have their ups and downs - I loved the new bathroom scene! 2 DVDs, some extras, and a nice package - not to mention the fact that its one of the greatest movies of all time! Buy it NOW :P

Summary: One More Time....Please!!
Review: I first saw E.T. back in 1982 (like a LOT of other folks) and thought it was a masterpiece then.

Judging from the new enhancements, the 2002 version will be even better (can't wait to see this in Hi-Def)!

If you've never seen this movie (my wife has not and is in for a real treat), you gotta get it! Hard to believe that there is anyone that hasn't seen this movie, but I guess there is.

If there was ever a "must see" (with apologies to NBC) movie, THIS IS IT! If you never see (or buy) another movie in your life, make this one a part of your collection. It'll be in mine on October 22!

Summary: way to go SPIELBERG
Review: 5 stars for one of the greatest movies of all time, and another 5 stars for Mr Spielberg for stepping up and making sure we get our 1982 version included in this without the fans having to shell out double the price. Always repect for Steven and now even more!!
