Review: I first saw E.T THE EXTRA TERRESTSTRIAL at the age of 11 and have seen the movie at least a dozen times since. The movie made me laugh and be amazed throughout at the exploits of E.T and his friend ELLIOT played by HENRY THOMAS, what kinds of situations they get into I won't say just watch and find out. Also when the goverment captures E.T does he live or die I won't say but the anwser will suprise you. The special effects are great too in this film as well in my opinion this is a film for all ages don't miss E.T THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL.

Review: 10. Stop complaining about the "new" footage incoroprated into the 2002 version. The original is included on all 3 DVD versions of E.T. anyway, so what do you care?9. Regardless of what cinema snobs say, Spielberg is a fantastic director and this is his most personal movie second only to Schindler's List. 8. Quit calling it boring. It's rated PG, so what do want? You expected E.T. to come out at the end dressed as Rambo before blowing the authorities away with his outer space arsenal? It's a family movie. Get over it. 7. If you didn't love this movie as a kid, there's something mentally wrong with you. If you did love it as a kid and are bashing it now, then you grew up a little TOO much. I pity you people. 6. Simple: it's a classic 80's movie. 5. E.T. is more lovable than a lot of kid-friendly characters these days, including SpongeBob, Dora the Explorer and those silly Teletubbies. 4. It's a live-action movie in which, suprisingly, nobody dies. Got a problem with that? Watch a Jason movie. 3. E.T. was produced by Universal, a big studio (obviously), but it has more heart than 99% of the garbage out these days. 2. As successful as E.T. was, it never became a franchise to subject us to a plethora of mediocre sequels because, in my opinion, one movie is all we needed. It told it's story and let us get on with our lives. And the top reason to not listen to the nay-sayers?... 1. They'd rather wallow in depressing music and watch movies like Fight Club. Therefore, they need not speak, because fans of this movie couldn't care any less. So, why did I do this list? Simple. I was bored. Review: ...but I refuse to watch the new "look" of the film. Please Mr Spielberg: U gave us a masterpiece, a classic. Every scene was a a classic, but u don`t mess with excellence...
The old film of 1982 is not available in Norway any more, but I hope for the sake of future generations, that Mr Spielberg and his like DOES NOT TAMPER with old productions. What if Munch revived his painting "Scream" 20 years later and had a touch-up with better paint?
What I remember is 1 of the most magical children`s film ever made with a splendid Henry Thomas in the lead. Please let us - THE PUBLIC - have the original back... It belongs to us, our memories and the future.

Review: There is absolutely nothing wrong the original theatrical version of E.T.! I am so sick of washed-up directors like Lucas and Spielberg futzing with their old works and then considering them worthy replacements for the originals. I would urge anyone buying this DVD to please watch the original, unaltered version first. I actually threw out the disc containing the "2002 version" (shudder), and got this solely for the 1982 version. The idea of "updating" older films by inserting computer graphics is sickening, and it's an idea that oughta be resisted by anyone who cares.

Summary: USA DVD is the only option
Review: The USA 2-disc edition of E.T is now the only available DVD anywhere in the world. Universal discontinued the UK and Australian DVD releases some time ago to reflect the limited edition, and while this was to be the case in America too, it is obvious that it is still available there.
Nevertheless, the USA edition was always the only one worth buying because it included the 1982 release. The Australian and UK releases are PAL formatted which doesn't allow as much disc space as NTSC. Distributors in these regions therefore decided that consumers would prefer the full length special features over inclusion of the 1982 version. A pity because the 1982 version is much better, and how most of us remember it. I think Universal short-changed it's international clients.
Many reviewers have slammed the 2002 version because of the CGI tampering of E.T's character. I have to agree with them, the CGI has caused E.T to look too comical in scenes and quite unrealistic. I can't comprehend how Spielberg considers these alterations an improvement and more aligned to his vision. However, if you own the USA DVD, it doesn't matter because you can simply choose the better 1982 version. In my opinion, movies shouldn't be enhanced unless it is to improve their picture quality (ie. to remove grain, dust etc).
Overall, a movie worth owning (providing you have the USA DVD).

Review: In 2002, Steven Spielberg decided to release an updated version of his 1982 classic "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial". Universal announced that this update included new footage and new digital effects. Some people complain about the new special effects and the added scenes, but to be honest, it's not a big change, it's just some makeup that doesn't change the heart and soul of the movie: the story and the characters.
This movie features our favorite alien, a little squashy guy known as E.T., he gets involved in a very special relationship with a little boy when he is left alone in the Earth. And that friendship is one of the strongest things about "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial". Steven Spielberg created a great dynamic with the cast (specially the children), it's easy to see the wide display of emotions that these young actors printed on the movie. The adults are very good, but the young actors stole the show on this film.
"E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" has some of the most heartwarming scenes in movie history, a lot of people was touched with the brief death of E.T., or the return of the little alien to his home, or the magical scene when Elliott and E.T. cross the sky at night in a bicycle with the moon as background. This movie is the best thing that most of the cast was involved in. Henry Thomas (Elliott) and Robert MacNaughton (Michael) never were involved in a project of this size. Only Drew Barrymore remains very popular today, but most of the people will forever see her as the cute Gertie.
Steven Spielberg solidified an already strong reputation as a remarkable filmmaker with "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial", and John Williams (his favorite composer) created more incredible songs for the score of the movie. Spielberg filmed movies of greater scale, but "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" remains as his more emotional movie. The DVD features great stuff that the fans of this movie will love, so if you like "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial", then the DVD is a must-buy

Summary: A very MOVING movie!!!!!
Review: Oh,it was released in 1982,8 years before I born,I can call it "a old movie", I had never seen it before, and my parents were never mentioned it, maybe they forgot. And just the other day, I felt bored and watched my favorite movie channel "Sci-Fi", just find this movie, and I was cried at two points, one is E.T.'s "dead", another one is E.T. back to home. It's a very moving movie,and it's a great movie!

Review: Recently John Williams who conducted the score for ET
was recently honered at the Kennedy Center for his amazing
body of work. It then had me thinking again how much
I love this work, if you still havent got your kid
a holiday present, E.T. should be on your list.
It took 3 models of E.T. and whole number of great special effects and money to make this film but what it really took was the human element to make this one of the most memorable films in the last 20 years of film-making. Nothing or no one can capture the magic of this film.
Released in 1982 under a great deal of hype and marketing power, E.T. became one of the highest grossing films of all time,giving Steven Spielberg the award of being one of the greatest directors not only in the American cinema but in the whole world, even probably to where E.T. came from.
The movie is similar to other sci-fi alien flicks like THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL,but E.T. has more heart , humor and magic that any other previous sci-fi film.
This movie was shown on TNT this Saturday and probably will show again during the holidays, so you can catch E.T. if you want to relive the magic of being a kid and see this great film.
I had the pleasure of seeing E.T. when it came out (I was about 6 or 8 years old)and watching it again , it still has that same magic it had 18 or 20 years ago.
The movie starts off with the E.T. spaceship landing on a remote forest for some much needed repairs, then suddenly a couple of greedy government agents notice something moving in the forest (E.T.) and go after it.
E.T.'s friends seeing the threat coming,leave behind E.T.,
and so E.T. is entirely helpless and very afraid until he meets a young boy,Elliot (Henry Thomas) who cares for E.T. until his friends come back for him.
This movie resembles the story of a boy and a dog, they share alot of things together and when one hurts , the other one hurts as well.
So while E.T. is secretly hidden in Elliot's room alot of weird things start happening to Elliot he becomes sick and doesn't know.
The reason Elliot is sick is because E.T. is sick as well and they share a bond between each other thats make them feel the same thing.
Elliot's mother , Mary (Dee Wallace Stone who appeared in the cult classics the Howling, and the Stepford Wives) finds out what is going on ,but by the time she figures that out, the government agents come in and steal E.T. along with Elliot.
In what is the most saddest moment in the movie, we assume E.T. has died and I bet everyone in the movie theater was crying too,but E.T. comes back to life with his universal saying "E.T. phone home?". :-)
In the end, E.T. does phone home and tells Elliot that he will be with him "Ill be right here" as he points to his heart.
That is classic movie making folks.
See this movie to relive the magic and if you can get it on DVD with extra footage and behind the scenes specials, get it!! By all means but if you cant , get the VHS version.!!!!!
