Review: I was in the market for a DVD/Stereo system, but didn't know what to get. I did alot of online research as well. I ended up coming down to three products, the panasonic equivalent and also the SAVA-900. The latter was beyond my price range, and the Panasonic didn't have the decoding options that this Sony did. Here are my bullets:Decoding for 5.1, DTS, etc. Exceptional for "loaded" DVD's. Remote - slick remote, could be backlit, but works well. Easy function. Stereo - great reception, and good amount of tuning sets. Sound - excellent sound for a small apartment. Fills the room and you get the detailed sounds. Good base. Puts you right in the middle of the action. Great design - takes up little room Great price - great features, quality for the price Overall, it plays DVD and CD exceptionally well, automatically decodes the movie for what format it is (5.1, DTS, etc) but you can choose others. I loved listening to the Boston Pops holiday with it set on HALL mode...sounded like I was there! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a DVD/Home theater package in an apartment setting. You can't get any better.

Summary: Low tech. specs. for big bucks
Review: I was looking for home theater system with DVD and happened to see this unit. After carefull revue of it's audio range 100Hz-10kHz and THD=10 at surround mode should make it very entry level model.

Summary: Great home theater package for a nice price!
Review: If you thought you couldn't own a state of the art home theater, take a look (and listen) at Sony's DAV-S300. A DVD player with a built-in digital amplifier with Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, and 5 satellite speakers and a passive subwoofer for this price is just incredible. This system is beautiful, and because of its small size my first thought was that it wouldn't sound as good as it looks. But, man, was I wrong. This system more than fills with sound my bedroom. I was very impressed with the performance with 5.1 surround. The system is very easy to set-up and works fine when you first turn it on. The only thing I found missing was a component video output, but with the s-video is almost the same. This is a great system at an affordable price. You won't have to go to the trouble (and the money) of buying the separate components (DVD player, Receiver/Amplifier with 5.1 surround, 5 speakers and subwoofer).

Summary: Good deal, easy setup, mediocre power and features
Review: It's been mentioned that it's easy to set up and that's true - it comes with all speaker wires color -coded. Hookup takes no more than 10 minutes; leading all speaker wires along your baseboards - a few hours. Sound quality is good. NOTE A few annoying features: There is no input for another component - I had to dispose of my tape player, because there is no way to connect it. Power level is adequate for watching movies in a SMALL space - not for playing music at a party - you can turn the sound all the way up and still have a conversation. and the most annoying feature - not mentioned anywhere else - you CAN'T play CDs that you burn on your computer. If I had known that I would probably have gotten a different system.

Summary: Sound fills the room
Review: Sony's Dav-s300 is a great little system, great sound and can be set up by anyone! The sound fills the room and the dvd picture is extremly clear. Lack of inputs is the only downside to this machine, otherwise it's great! I recommend it

Summary: Great for DVD's, Bad for music
Review: The Sony DAVS-300 is great if you plan on using it mainly for playback on DVD's. But don't plan on playing those CD-R's you've burned.......they won't playback on this system. So if CD-R's won't play back I'm assuming CD-RW's are outta the question. I have to use my old AIWA boombox to listen to CD-R discs. Funny how I have a Sony CD-R/CD-RW, use Sony blank CD's, then can't get them to play on Sony equipment.

Summary: home theater made easy
Review: The system has a very clean sound , but does lack power. The DAVS 500 offers 40 watts to all and 80 to sub. For the price ,it outshines the competition. There is a out for the woofer if you choose to replace the sub, sony does not recommend changing any components. DTS, 5.1, and various sound fields I prefer a unit which selects the best possible sound and if you want to alter GO ahead. A sub cost what this system cost. The speakers are matched which really brings out the sound, but no chance to upgrade with a 30 watt output. IF you do not want to shake the floor and create thunder in the living room or bedroom but do want clean sound this is for you. IF you want to expand and change then spend a 1000 or more on a better system.

Summary: not a monster but a sweetest company
Review: The thought of buying a dvd player with digital funtions had been haunting me for sometime. I looked into various models of dvds in the town but nothing to satisfy me. Then one day I saw this sleek dvd palyer with funtions that was more than one could anticipate according to its size. however, it was there with dts, dolby and everything. Its the best selection one can make for ones home. There will be no regret for the decission but if one expects very high sound system then it is better to drop the idea because it doesn't fullfil the need. So davs300 is exclusively a decent item for a domestic use.

Summary: Big Sound, Small Box, Big Feature Set, Smallminded Decisions
Review: This product is a terrific solution; I like a home theatre experience, but I dislike seeing a bunch of ugly blinking lights and unattractive speakers. Aesthetically, Sony took a cue from Bose et al and did a terrific job of packing in a complete feature set inside an attractive brushed-metal box. From a video standpoint, performance is excellent, rivalling many more-expensive DVD solutions, in part because there is very little signal loss between the DVD section and the DTS/Dolby 5.1 decoders. The remote is reasonably easy to use, though the slow-mo controls are bloody inconvenient. Plan on setup taking a few hours; while the physical setup is practically impossible to screw up, balancing the audio will take you at least an hour and a half, and you will be frustrated. Fortunately, this is a do-it-once-and-forget-it task; you can also do this with any THX Optimode DVD, such as Fight Club, but you will be fighting the menu system, which gets complex for tasks not directly on the remote. The inclusion of a digital input (for example, from a DirecTV receiver) is a thoughtful touch. Note that the remote *will not* control a cable box, which seems like an omission in that everyone needs a settop box anymore for cable. Save your pennies and get one of the PalmPilot-sized Sony programmable remotes to make up this minor shortcoming.

Summary: Great Look and Great Sound
Review: This system is one of the best out there. Not only does it sound awesome, it looks cool too. If you have a Sony WEGA TV this system will match it perfectly since they are both silver. The only thing that is missing is that there no component cable outputs but the s-video will suffice.
