Summary: The Matrix is the bollocks
Review: This is the best film that I have seen in ages. The special Effects are amazing and the story line is very well thought out. A MUST SEE

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: This movie redefines over-rated.
Review: People must really be starved for originality if they are embracing this movie as being anything other than usual action rehash. Keanu does his best to look disoriented (that's a real stretch for him I bet) and Fishburne spouts sayings like a 21st Century disciple from Yoda Community College.

Of course, many of today's filmgoers don't need any more intellectual stimulation than a stylized Keanu running around in an overcoat with a gun, so this DVD will be a huge seller. I truly feel sorry for those that think this movie is ground-breaking in any way.

Summary: Woh, man, thats a lot of bullets
Review: Since when does no-talent acting and lots of guns make a great movie? Ok, it had lots of special effects to keep you from realizing it was missing a plot and real acting, but then so did What Dreams May Come, and nobody is calling that great. Come on, if this is the best movie of the year, then I really feel sorry for the film industry. Maybe for the sequal, Keanu can just stand there for an hour, jump around in slow motion a few times, and shoot a gun. At least we won't have to pretend there is a story. There was nothing original about this one, even the so called original story idea has been floating around in science fiction literature since at least the 40s.

Summary: great story, and effects
Review: I thought that this was one of the best if not THE best movies that I'd seen in a long time. It was fully entertaining, along similar lines as Blade, but without the bloodsuckers...In short, it was a great entertaining movie with a decent plot and if you don't delve too deeply to find a great plot, you won't be disappointed

Summary: Too ignorant to get it.
Review: My heading says it all. If you didn't like the Matrix it's probably because you're too ignorant to understand the concept of artificial intelligence and most of all, a different perspective at your everyday, routine and boring life. The movie was excellent and extremely thought provoking. Can't wait for a sequel or a prequel. Can you image a movie of the same impact dealing with the war between the computers and the humans (prequel) or a movie when Neo knows of his powers and uses them fight the computer intelligence? (sequel)

Summary: Too deep...
Review: My brother saw this movie before I did, and absolutely hated it. I saw it with some freinds while on a business trip and was absolutely amazed, as were my two partners. I explained things a bit, and told my brother to let go of reality and look deeper... he's now seen it nearly a dozen times. INCREDIBLE MOVIE! 'Nuff Said!

Summary: An entertaining but lousy film when taken in context
Review: This film was, I must say, visually entertaining and the computerized effects were as good as just about anything that has come out. Sheer entertainment value, however, does not make a good film. This movie was, in fact, the worst hack off of the Hong Kong cinema tradition I have ever seen. There wasn't a single moment (that I can think of) that wasn't stolen from another artist and used in almost exactly the same way. (just less gracefully and tastefully) To see where they got the intense, double-handed pistol shootouts and dramatic slow-mo shots, see John Woo. To see where they got the high-flying wire-enhanced kung fu sequences, see Tsui Hark. To see who they are immitating in their hand to hand action, see Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, etc. To see where they took their concept of style and atmosphere, see any number of Japanese anime. For the origins of their cyber-world concept, read the novels of William Gibson. If you think the kung fu in this film was even remotely interesting, you should see the true masters do it right in films such as Fist of Legend (Jet Li), Drunken Master and Drunken Master II (Jackie Chan), Tai-chi Master (Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh) and Wing Chun (Michelle Yeoh). These are just a few examples of a genre filled with similar excellency. Keanu Reeves' clumsy fumblings (although many are taken directly from Jackie Chan films) are a very VERY far cry from the real thing. It's a painful thing to watch. For anyone who has NOT had the opportunity to see the films that form the true basis of this film, it is understandable that you would be amazed. The styles that it borrows are heretofore almost non-existant outside of Asia. If you liked this film, I implore you to seek out and find the work of the artists who made this thing possible. Only then can you form an educated opinion. (there are certainly those who HAVE seen these films and would disagree with me on this one, but at least it's an educated disagreement) For a much better film that also draws heavily from Hong Kong cinema, see Pulp Fiction, which is a true artistic interpretation and not a mere borrowing of technique. $0.02.
