Summary: Recall Recall Recall
Review: What a good movie! This is everything a Schwarzenegger movie is supposed to be. It is fun. It is exciting. It actually is though provoking. It has a plot, and a good one at that. The Austrian Oak plays Doulas Quaid, a man not quite happy here on earth. And while he can't afford a vacation there, he has heard things about a business called "recall." This is where the movie gets interesting. Recall can program memories into your head. While Quaid is getting his dream vacation, something goes terribly wrong. He ends up going to Mars anyway, and there are now questions about his identity, what his actual mission is, and about his life in general. What is made up? What is real? Will he ever know? It makes for a very exciting movie.This DVD looks awesome. The case is cutting edge, using a Mars cutout on top (the size of a DVD). The special features look great, too, including commentary by Arnold himself. This is a must buy.

Review: "Total Recall" is set in the distant future after humans have colonized Mars. Vacation packages in this alternate reality are a couch potato's paradise. Now, all one has to do to take a "vacation" is to sit on a high-tech recliner while your chosen vacation program is downloaded, installed and ready to run right into your subconscious mind. The average consumer can also purchase "implanted memories." The main character, Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger), is troubled by recurring dreams about a journey to Mars. To help figure out the meaning of his dreams, Quaid visits Rekall, Inc. where they sell implanted memories. While Quaid is undergoing the treatment he recalls a time in his life when he was a secret agent fighting against the evil Mars administrator (Rony Cox). Quaid finds himself in a nightmarish reality of a Martian mining colony controlled by a terrorizing dictator and rebellious Martians. Meanwhile, he is contacted by members from Rekall, Inc. who attempt to bring him back from an implanted program gone awry. Lori Quaid (Sharon Stone), his wife, is sent into the program ("The Lawnmower Man," and the more recent movie, "The Cell" come to mind) to bring him back from his coma-like state. Quaid is confronted with the difficulty in choosing which reality to accept as the true reality. Is Quaid really a secret agent or is he just imagining that he is due to the program? Which path does he choose? Does he run the course of the program until the secret agent saves everyone or does he choose to take a pill ("Matrix" style) so that Rekall, Inc. can recover him from the errors of the program? The first DVD release of "Total Recall" was a double-sided DVD with one side containing a 1.85:1 non-anamorphic widescreen presentation, and the other side containing a "standard" presentation. The extras were average containing cast and crew histories, a teaser trailer, and a full trailer. This title has now been revisited with a new anamorphic widescreen presentation, plenty of special features, and packaged in a unique collectible tin "Mars" DVD case! Special features that appear on this new Limited Special Edition DVD include the "Imagine Total Recall" documentary that takes you behind-the-scenes with the film's stars, including a new rare interview with legendary actor Arnold Schwarzenegger! The DVD also features an audio commentary with director Paul Verhoeven and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a "Mars: Fact or Fiction" featurette, "Rekall's Virtual Vacation," and the "Visions of Mars" featurette! Artisan Entertainment is producing this new Limited Special Edition DVD of "Total Recall." Artisan is the same company that gave us the highly collectible "Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition" DVD! I expect similar results with this new reissue to be released on September 18, 2001!

Review: Total Recall is all about Sharon Stone. She was so beautiful with an attitude that you will want to watch it over and over again. Just by looking at her face, is worth everything. Forget the story and everything else.

Summary: No Recalls for "Total Recall"
Review: Another outstanding Arnold movie. Granted, he has made some bombs, but nobody's perfect. This DVD on the other hand comes darned close! (To being perfect that is.) The enhanced features available through digital application has made a great movie even better. The old story of lust for power gets a new twist with Arnie around. You could tell Sharon Stone had a good time playing the evil seductrise when she wasn't playing the Happy Housewife. Talk about two-faced! The fast pace of the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat. I've watched this movie a dozon times and each time I find something new in it. Here's an outline of the plot. Arnold is your average Joe, working hard all day and coming home to the little woman (Sharon Stone) who is actually an agent watching him. One day he decides to go on a virtual vacation to Mars. Unfortunately, it brings out locked memories that a lot of people don't want disclosed. After battling his way home and then out of the apartment, Arnold decides the only way to find out about himself is to go to Mars, a mining colony that has had a few bad "incidents" along the way that have caused mutations in the people who first colonized the place. Of course there's an evil big shotwho controls everything, including the air, as well as a rebel group trying to get the truth out into the open. Add a good dose of alien technology that was left for Arnold to figure out, a terrific phycopathic killer on his trail, a few spies here and there, a touch of ESP and you get bulging eye balls from the lower gravity and no air just before the switch gets thrown. I wouldn't say it was "Pretty Woman on Mars" but the good guy (Arnold, of course) gets the girl(?) in the end. It's well worth watching as well as adding to your DVD Library.

Review: While "Total Recall" is not very faithful to the story upon which it's based, it is a riveting, dazzling, high-tech science fiction movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays an ordinary working man who realizes that he has a past for which his memory has been erased. He sets out on a crusade to find out who he was, who erased his memory, and why they did it. The "who he was" part is a bit under-emphasized, I think, but the "who did it" and "why did they do it" are woven into a thrilling mystery that gradually gets unraveled. On the way, Arnold goes to Mars (which looks pretty authentic, given what we know) and fights a megalomanic super-techie. The special effects are spectacular. Some of the violence seems excessive and gratuitous, but this is otherwise a great action movie with Arnold at his best and backgrounds that grab your eye.

Summary: A good DVD that needs an overhaul
Review: I bought my first DVD sometime in 1998. At the time I had a DVD-ROM in my computer (one of the first on the market by Creative) but not in my home theater (I was still using laser discs). Total recall was among the first 10 DVDs or so that I bought. I saw this movie in the theater and I really liked it, not as much as the Terminator series or running man, but I was entertained nonetheless. I was excited to get it on DVD because I still like to watch it from time to time and I'm still entertained by the movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger is Douglas Quaid, a construction worker who is not happy in his mundane life and wants desperately to investigate his fascination (obsession really) with Mars. His wife Lori, played by Sharon Stone, acts as a deterrent to Douglas's fantasy; which causes him to go to a memory implant agency called Rekall to buy a false memory of a trip to Mars. All his problems seem to start as a direct result of going to Rekall for the memory implant. This is key because this is what keeps us guessing whether or not what's happening to him is real or part of his "Ego Trip" package that's supposed to give him the memory of a secret agent. Now, like I said, I've watched this movie many times and there are hints that support both sides, like: The tech that assists the doctor that is going to perform the implant says, "Blue skies on Mars, that's a new one". Also, his adventure does seem to follow that memory package to the "T". On the other side, there are plenty of clues that support the reality argument, such as the Director sweating when trying to convince him of his delusional fantasy, and Richter (played by Michael Ironside) trying to kill him through out the whole movie. These are the things that make this movie so much fun to watch and never let it get old. This is a good DVD that deserves an overhaul. After seeing and hearing what they did with the recent release of Superman, I would love to experience this movie with a re-mastered digital transference and soundtrack. The amount of action that this movie offers, I feel it's a prime candidate for a special release. I would also love to see a director's cut, I'm curios to see what they actually cut out of the film and if that footage could point the viewers to the correct side (fantasy or reality). As it stands now, the picture is good but could be smother and less grainy at times. The sound is where it needs it biggest improvement! The surround and LFE channel are minimally used (hard to believe in such an action packed movie) and the front 3 could be tightened up and not have the sounds "leak" into each channel as much. The vocals could be anchored more to the center channel and have the left and right fronts handle more of the action discreetly. This would be a 5 star movie if they re-released it with, if not all of them, some of these suggested improvements. The way it is, I gave it 3 stars. That being said, I do suggest you buy it, because you will continuously enjoy this movie of the years.

Review: A great mix of Sci-Fi Thriller,Action and Adventure,set in the year 2084.Arnold Schwarzenegger is Douglas Quaid,a construction worker who wants the memory of a lifetime,but can't really afford a trip,to Mars.Against his friends advice,Doug goes for a chat,to Recall,a Company that caters for people like Doug. Before long,Doug is convinced that an artificial memory implant-of a trip he has never actually been on,is the next best thing! Another Planet with rebellious,deadly Mutants,Assassins,Computer Controlled Johnny Cabs,and Ronny Cox,cool,as Cohaagen,an evil Dictator who can turn off the air supply!Lots of memorable scenes,including:Quaid and Melina on the side of a Mountain gasping for air so badly that their eyes pop out,and faces expand,also a series of scenes showing a massive underground Cavern-containing Cohaagen's secret,and of-course,the elusive Kuato!Second only to Terminator 2,in terms of Schwarzenegger,action,and thrilling entertainment,made more appealing on this DVD,because of a great transfer,and dynamic 5.1 Dolby Digital Soundtrack.Some extras would have been nice,but for the price,good value!

Summary: My 10 favorite Movie of all time.
Review: This goes on my list of 30 favorite movies and this is on the ten spot. The story deals with a futuristic worker ( Arnold Schwarzenger) who gets his memory erased and must get it back. Entertaining, breath taking and simply just gorily amazing with the visuals and Gore to please blood drinkers of all shapes and sizes. Recommendations to go with this: The Matrix and The Fifth Element.

Review: Simply Amazing movie! this is one of my top 20 films of all time and it remaines in my mind forever. it's about a Man who gets his memory erased and goes to Mars to get it back, before he is dead. Unforgetabble, outstanding, entertaining, never-dull, Gore-infested, action packed thrill ride that will take you on a memoriable journey to the edge. i will never forget the first day i saw this movie in 1990 at the theater when i was 8, i seemed too young to see it but i loved it and i will love it forever. Truely a must see or must own! Recommendations: Robocop, Commando, Starship Troopers, The Fifth Element, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Heavy Metal, Scanners, Independence Day, Blade Runner, Spaceballs, The Dark Crystal, Star Wars with Episode I, The Matrix, and Con Air.
