Summary: Must see for any science fiction fan
Review: This will likely be the first DVD I purchase (will need to get a DVD machine to play it)! I echo some others in saying that I rarely see movies that are in the theater more than once. I saw this twice and could have seen it many more times. The first time I saw it I actually knew very little about it and hadn't read any reviews. I was completely blown away, from the very beginning. For me, this ranks with science fiction movies such as Star Wars, Aliens, and Bladerunner.

Summary: Far deeper than the special effects.
Review: This will shock upset and even enrage some readers. The under lying story is the gospel of Christ. The truth, that the solution to all our difficulties lies within our perceptions and beliefs, is delivered to us in a fresh, futuristic, fireworks filled fashion. In this reality, right here, right now, our experiance is only our perception, our beliefs. Change your perceptions, change your experiance. Change your beliefs, change the world! Best movie I've seen all year!

Summary: Is it 3 a.m.? Go to bed...unless your watching The Matrix...
Review: This won't help you. I just liked the movie. A lot. Five stars.

See? Good. Now go read something else.

Summary: A top quality science fiction film
Review: This would be an exceptional movie for the story alone - add good acting, outstanding visual effects, and exciting action scenes, and you have a rare film that entertains on many levels. The performances reveal a great deal of sincerity. Keanu Reeves is in fine form here, and should gain the respect that has long eluded him. The fight scenes are the best I've seen outside of Hong Kong cinema. The overall feel is quite serious with some minor touches of humor. For viewers not bright enough to appreciate the depth of the story, there is the extremely high "cool quotient" to enjoy. MATRIX is going to lose much on the small screen, but if you're able to view it with no distractions, you'll get a lot out of it.

Summary: Makes you think!
Review: This would definately be the best movie I've watched in years. This special effects were great and the acting was first rate. The martial arts effects were also fantastic. A good way to escape the reality for awhile. One of the few movies that could rate a follow up feature. Watched it 3 times already!

Summary: derivative
Review: This would have been a great movie if I hadn't already seen it before. What I mean is that all the key elements were borrowed from other films, to wit:

They Live - alternate reality imposed by evil non-humans

Terminator 2 - war of humans vs. artificial intelligence

Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Thing, etc. - use humans for raw material

Little Buddha - Keanu Reeves is the chosen one

Take all those and squish them together, and you have The Matrix. Nice special effects, though.

Summary: great movie - poor DVD
Review: This would have been a pleasure to watch except for video/audio going out of sync on most action scenes. I have a Pioneer DVL700 which plays my other 200+ DVD's without trouble. Understand the problem also occurs with Toshiba, RCA, and other players - Sony plays it OK.

Summary: Digital Dreams or Reality...
Review: Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves), alias Neo, is a computer programmer by day and a hacker by night who is not getting much sleep due to troubled thoughts. One evening Neo receives a message on his computer and later a strange phone call from a different hacker who goes by the name Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). This is the beginning of a complete turmoil related to Neo's existence and he is thrown into an adventure unlike no other ever created, no pun intended. Matrix is a clever science fiction story that triggers reflection in regards to our existence and values, which can be experienced through fast paced action packed entertainment.

Summary: DVD-ROM owners beware of bullying installation
Review: Those intending to play this disk on DVD-ROM should be aware that it will not play on your regular software but insists on installing PC-Friendly, which is actually a pretty lame player. It might insist on updating various drivers as well. To top it off, if you have the Creative Encore software, the picture won't play at the correct aspect ratio till you figure out how to swap into your regular player and change it. Altogether it took me over an hour to get the movie up and running properly, and it stuck me with software I don't want and don't like. Rude!

Summary: Even Keanu Reeves could not screw up this movie!!
Review: Those Wachowski brothers are good. This movie is fantastic! The casting (even Keanu, who is terrible in all other movies) seems to be perfect. I really cannot see other actors in these roles. The actually premise of the movie (humans as batteries for machines) was completely original. They did a fantastic job of mixing cyber-punk, Hong Kong and anime styles. This is the movie to bring Hollywood into the next century. Sorry, George. Jar-Jar did not cut it.
