Summary: Astounding
Review: That's only one word of hundreds I could use to describe this movie.

I just saw it today. The CG animation is absolutely breathtaking, the storyline and action are pure Final Fantasy, the characters are believable, the voice acting is superb, and the music, while certainly not Nobuo Uematsu, complements the film perfectly.

The plot has most definitely NOT been "dummified," as some Final Fantasy fans have put it. On the contrary; they managed to fit an amazing amount of history and theological fantasy into just over two hours - something that previously has only been done over the course of a 40-60 hour game. My father, not having ever been exposed to the Final Fantasy "life and death, everything's wrapped in and around itself, even the smallest piece has a large effect" theme, walked out of the theater and said, "I don't get the end." I had to explain it to him. Beautiful. Most of the FF games have also had endings to ponder, and the movie excels at keeping in tradition.

Overall- a great story, fantastic action, exciting audio, and visuals that grab you by the seat of your pants and take you for the ride of your life.

And while the Fantasy may never really be "Final," it's definitely one fantasy you DON'T want to miss.

Summary: FF7, the movie
Review: This movie can best be described as FF7 the movie. The same themes involved in FF7 are involved here.

That said, the plot and dialogue are on the same level as that venerable game. Granted, most FF players allow dialogue to slide in favor of the overall experience, and in that light, this is a very successful movie. The tone is there, the imagery and feel are there, hell, even the SOUNDTRACK is there. its got all the feel of a final fantasy game, yet its a movie.

Sadly, though, the plot is fairly systematic, at times even trite. This is made up for by the characters, who aren't sullen teenagers or confused amnesiacs. But most of us aren't seeing this movie for any of these reasons, but to see some seriously badass CG effects.

And they are present. Though some of the early dubbing is a shade off, for the most part they move, talk, and look like people. No one will confuse these for the real thing, but its very close. The action sequences are also very well done. There is no "sliding," and a good pace is set throughout the film. There is one scene at the beginning that I find questionable to the story though, in the sterilization room, but other than that this is quite well done.

So, if you liked FF7 and FF9, this will play well on your tastes. If you're new to Final Fantasy, I don't know how you'll react, and if you're just going to find picky flaws... well, stay quiet, the rest of us don't care.

Summary: Fantastic visuals, bland story and characters
Review: ...So let me say this right away:I HAVE SEEN THIS MOVIE.First off I dont really enjoy the Final Fantasy games but this had no influence on my judgement since its not based on any of them. This film has really great CG work. The first scene alone is great when the lead heroine goes into a destroyed New York City(nice work).EVen the aliens(which are ghosts)are awesome since they are possibly the perfect.. machine(sweeping over someone and taking their soul).THe film's CG work alone is worth seeing but you may be bored by the constant search of finding the eight spirit which takes them from Earth to a floating cannon called Zeus. The characters(even though they are not real)are also bland and uninteresting. My last gripe:the dialouge is horrible,it sounds as if a fifth grader wrote it.The script sprouts out such memorable lines as:ITS SO WARM oh and the widely unused(yeah right) WHERE ARE WE?The bottom line:its worth seeing for the groundbreaking effects(and I almost forgot the Spider-Man and the Lord of the Rings trailers before it)but then again you could just watch the trailers for doses of that.

Summary: OKAY, WHATEVER!!
Review: The one star is for how the computer animations are to say simply 'cool.' The plot was enough to keep my friend confused, (not me.) and it was strange. STRANGE MEANS A NORMAL SCI-FI FLIC. I admit, I was SO hoping that the movie wouldn't be a flop. Sure, but it was alright except they completely ruined it by doing a fatal thing! (no-worries, I'm not telling.) I just got out of the theature less than ten minutes ago. I was REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS MOVIE!!! but...it left me unsatisfied. Sorry to say so, but they really messed this one up. And THEY COULD HAVE REALLY DONE SOMETHING GREAT WITH IT. But....they didn't. so, if you RENT this one, get another movie too, because you're not going to be satisfied.

Summary: The first review from someone who's actually seen it
Review: First off, this is not based at all on any Final Fantasy game as you might think. Just like with the game series, they use new plots and characters each time. The only name you will recognize in this movie is Sid(although they changed the spelling to the more American version).

This movie is a mater piece. It has a great plot and graphics better than anything you've seen before. Although it doesn't look exactly like live-action, it's pretty close most of the time. It's to be expected from Square. The Final Fantasy name is not going to be soiled-whether it be from a SquareSoft game or a movie made mostly by other people.

Everyone forgets the true meaning of "fantasy". Fantasy is imaginative fiction, as define by Webster. Just because this is futuristic, science fiction doesn't mean it is not fantasy. It's not true, which makes it fiction and imagination.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is nothing like Final Fantasy 8, like most people say, and the Phantoms look NOTHING like the bad guys in "Aliens" movies. Also, FF8 is NOT a bad game. Almost everyone hates it because they compare it to Final Fantasy 7-arguably the best in the series, but that's not what's up for review.

The Phantoms are very diverse. There are flying serpent-like ones to huge, building-sized monstrosities. Some are even about the size of humans (to keep the fighting and winning against some of them more believable).

Overall, this is a great movie. It has a new, interesting plot and graphics that are better than in any Final Fantasy game so far. Think of it as the longest FMV that Square has given you, sit back, and enjoy!

Summary: Seen on the release day.
Review: I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 since it was a little bit predictable. Positve points: wonderful animation, great character and mechanical designs, interesting story (even if predictable at points), and at times you forget you are watching a computer generated movie (the computer animation is TOP NOTCH!). Recommend to: Sci-fi & anime fans and/or people who love computer animation. -It has the feeling of Aliens at times, and has story elements similar to action anime.

Summary: NOT A ALIEN [copy cat]
Review: OK, first off it's not a alien [copy cat]. It's a disgrace to say that. First because Alien is good in its own right, Second if any of you have seen any of the Alien trilogy its not the same. Only a little bit like Aliens b/c the two teams are kind of alike but Aliens had a lot more people and that Jane and the other girl are kind of the same. But here are the difference- Alien- other planet; FF- Earth, Alien- aliens; FF- phantoms, Alien- no guy like Sid; FF- Dr. Sid, Alien- real people; FF- computer people, Alien- no dreams; FF- dreams and so on and so forth. Thank and go see it! Why I gave it 4- I haven't seen it yet.

Summary: Big screen Eye Candy Fun...
Review: The movie is just what you think it is- Look what we can do computer effects. It is done so well that many people I know thought they used real actors for some of the movie. That aside the story line is a suspense/ action theme, and is enjoyable. It is not just another "aliens" but it is sci-fi, it is also fantasy (i.e. some of the things in the movie are inspired by myths and legends).

I say 4 1/2 stars, not must see but good to see on the big screen. ....

Summary: See it then rate it! So what if it's not like the game!
Review: Look I've been a fan of the FF series since it came out for the gameboy in the early 90's and I also got into the later versions and loved the playstation games. But the truth is this does not appear to be part of the game or follow any of the themes. Instead it looks like a visualy stunning movie that finally breaks the mold! In fact I can't wait to see it and I'm glad it's not based off the game - no I don't believe it's a cheesy rip off of alien or any other movie, and just because it seems to fit an American audience as one of the previous review's says, is no reason not to enjoy it. A movie is supposed to be fun and I do believe this will be.

Summary: Fantasy Wanderer
Review: In many games of FF, this Movie will give us the best look at the games made!
