Summary: Good effects,dumb movie.
Review: This film has outstanding effects but what a dumb movie it is(so typical of Verhoven's bad direction). The ships can wipe out thousands of bugs with naplam in seconds so why are the troops firing bullets? Why are the orbiting spaceships bunched together like sitting ducks when they could be thousands of miles apart? Why don't the ground troops have air support? Why aren't the fort's surrounding areas mined?Like I said,a big dumb movie.

Summary: Subtle
Review: I simply can't believe the number of people who missed the satirical nature of this film. Of the ten fellow students who went to see it when it premiered in theaters, myself and two others were the only ones who picked up on it. Yes, the acting was bad. Yes, the relationships were hollow and the parties involved completely unlikeable. Does anyone out there actually believe it was supposed to be otherwise? Please. The propaganda film at the beginning is called "Why We Fight." That's the name of a WWII Nazi propaganda short. The good guys dress like S.S. officers. The mobile infantry gets tattoos that say "Death from above." In short, Starship Troopers is possibly the most subtle exercise in misanthropism and anti-war commentary I've ever seen. You need a little background research in the course of human facism to appreciate it, but the satire is there.

Summary: Frinkin' Brilliant Movie!
Review: This movies provides it all...Voilence, sex and most importantly a storyline.

There are quite a few people out there who say that this work of art has no story, but that is because they didn't watch it. What I mean is they can't see past the violence, and that is a shame.

This movie shows a possible future, 'the fall of democracy and the rise of the veterans, who took control and restored stability...'

The acting is rather good, Casper was really belivable as was Denise. To finish I'd just like to say that this movie rocks!

Summary: Get a canoe ready...
Review: Sometimes an experience is so exciting and exhilirating that one begins to exude bodily fluids in an orgasmic manner, such that a canoe becomes necessary for flotation and survival in an enclosed space. Starship troopers gives way to such an experience. Bravo!

Summary: Save Your Self!
Review: This movie was terrible. Terrible acting. terrible writing, terrible design. Sure, they have computer generated special effects, but hwo doesn't? They aren't even done well.

Even the comedy of seeing Doogie Houser, M.D. looking like a 1940's German secret agent isn't funny enough to save this movie.

Read the book - don't suffer through the movie.

Summary: One of the worst movies I have ever seen
Review: I'm sorry but this movie was just plain awful. There were holes in the storyline and editing that were so big you almost thought they had never really finished it as originally written and planned but just cut together whatever footage was available so that it could be released.

Summary: Great special effects, Horrible acting and story line.
Review: The story stinks but it has the best special effects I've everseen. The film is worth watching once or twice for the effects but only those who have been raised on MELROSE PLACE and 90210 will think it is an outstanding story.

Summary: Action and violence packed science fiction
Review: If you go for action and violence you'll probably like this movie. On the other hand, if you think plot and acting are important, you better look elsewhere. This is one of the most violent popular movies I have seen.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Entertaining sex and (ultra!) violence!!!
Review: Makes "All Quiet on the Western Front" look like a bunch of pansies swanning about! Supposedly, this is a film with a SUBTLE anti-fascist MESSAGE! Baloney. It's a violent space-opera that functions pretty much as militaristic propaganda. That's pretty much the case for most sci-fi actioners, though.

In an alternative future, citizenship is conditional upon service to the state - military service, as opposed to not graduating high school without doing community service... several young graduates sign up and find themselves pitted against mindless monsters with nothing but machineguns. Pluck, determination, and self-sacrifice win the day...

Despite some tongue-in-cheek humour I thought it conveyed Heinlein's political philosophy BETTER than the rather heavy-handed novel. Without significant changes to the plot it couldn't really be any other way. The acting's sufficient for the story and, as always, purists and technoids will ridicule the equipment and tactics. Not a thinker's film but as good as anything Schwarzenegger ever starred in.

Summary: Incredible special effects and yes, there is a story.
Review: Imagine being trapped on a barren planet with thousands of fiteen-foot tall ants swarming towards you. You'd better have plenty of fire-power. And lots of friends with the same. This is an exciting, visually spectacular war movie with a relentlesss foe that few could feel remorse at killing.

The movie introduces a number of insect species whose combined strength is social as well as biological. We get to see a number of insect types, each terrifying in their own way. The film only hints that there are others. What kind of bug can send a meteor all the way across a galaxy?

The movie's plot also hints at a lot of ideas, obviously remnants of Heinlein's orginal book. The principal characters, all teenagers, live in an idyllic, yet fascist society that promotes violence as strength. That violence is directed outward, towards a common foe. The story follows the naive adolescents as they go through military training and then find themselves at war with giant bugs from space. Civil rights are granted only to those that survive their military service. The parallel with the insect society can't be a coincidence.

Okay, okay, it's just a movie. Like any science fiction film, it can't do justice to the original material. If you want an exciting war film with lots of great special effects, see this movie. If you really want to think, READ A BOOK!
