Summary: Watch this film.
Review: A good movie, lots of shooting and action, but don't forget to notice the satiristic things about society.

Summary: Full of holes
Review: There is one and only one reason to watch this movie: To see beautiful people getting ripped to shreds by nasty aliens. That's it. The special effects are amazing, but the plot and acting are absolutely horrible. What grade do you have to pass to become a general in the future? Ever heard of TANKS? We had those in the 20s, but somehow forgot how to build them in the future. At least our heroes had grenades and rocket launchers. Too bad they almost never used them. Overall NOT the movie to watch if you want to know ANYTHING about military strategy, but the bugs are cool.

Summary: what a good film
Review: i think it is a very good film and i don't understand why so many people don't like it. It deals with S-F as never a film have done it before. So i would like to tell you to buy it now.

Summary: I have NO clue why people could give this a bad review.
Review: Alot of the reviews I read comment on how bad the acting was, and how the whole politics of the movie is completely stupid and offending. Well, newsflash, it was intended to be like a comic book. How silly can you get, "we dont agree with the politics, but if 20 meter bugs squirted plasma into the sky....", makes you have to wonder what point they want sci fi to begin, and where it should stop, sci fi is not suppose to have a boundary. I thought it was a briliantly done movie, this is the only movie I can watch over and over, and enjoy the effect again and again. Anyone that really want to be submerged in a fantasy, look no furhter. A must buy for your long term movie collection.

Summary: The book was better
Review: I will keep this simple. The movie was a good ride for special effects. The book was much better (aren't they always???) Smash your televisions and buy books.

Summary: So bad it's good!
Review: If Heinlein were alive today, he'd be spinning in his grave! Against my better judgement I actually quite enjoyed this film. The action scenes are extremely well done, but the plot, the politics, the acting ...? And what have they done with Doogie Howser MD? I gather in the US, movie audiences actually cheered the Troopers' victories. Well this side of the Atlantic, we were rooting for the bugs! You'll probably enjoy this - but hate yourself for doing so!

Summary: Responsible mayhem
Review: Like most boys, I suffer(ed) from two terrible drives that overwhelm our much-vaunted aura of rationality. First, I am obsessed with sex appeal. Secondly, I want to kill things. This twin drives -- Eros and Thanatos -- are thoroughly exploited and mocked in Paul Verhoeven's astounding 1997 action epic, Starship Troopers. Based on (and a critique of) the Robert Heinlein "juvenile" title of the Fifties, Troopers works on numerous levels: thrill-ride, eye candy, unsubtle anti-war statement, commentary on fascism, and exemplar of Verhoeven's horrifically callous sense of humour. Critics mistakenly focused on the unrealistically attractive cast and the seeming excessiveness of the gore. Actually, the toothbrush-commercial perkiness of the actors is a logical consequence of an elitist society wherein the ability to breed is granted by licence. The appalling gore (and to be sure, this is no kid's film, with heads and limbs coming off in an excruciatingly lengthy and objective manner that compare with the combat sequences in Saving Private Ryan) shows the consequences of a militaristic society: i.e., slaughter of its youth. In such scenes, Troopers (like the best fantasy), shows us a part of reality that often escapes notice. Compare the knee-jerk instinct to annihilate opposition of Troopers' evil humans with subsequent events in Kosovo, and try to tell me this film isn't important.

Summary: Aliens was better for atmosphere
Review: A great movie, StarShip Troopers can't get the five star because it can't displace Aliens.

Lots of guns and ammo, good SFX, a really enjoyable movie with repeat watchability. Why not buy it? It's worth the entry price.

Summary: truly awful (or should I say "offal")
Review: I am an admirer of the Heinlein novel and Verhoeven's ROBOCOP, but I was utterly disappointed with this movie. I expected to at least enjoy it on it's "entertainment" factor, alas, there wasn't one. Being quite a cinema-lover, I was surprised to find no value at all in this work, and I would rate it a "0" if that were an option. If you want entertainment, see LOST IN SPACE instead.

Summary: Not the English Patient or Bridges of Madison County
Review: If, like me, you were dragged to "the English Patient" by your wife, this movie is wonderful payback. It finds a vein early and drips testosterone right to the end. It is absolutely perfect if you haven't a thought in your head and want to stay that way. (Or maybe you might wonder why such a movie about seemingly mindless brutality was really satirical or not.)
