Summary: A great DVD, and an absolutely Awesome Movie.
Review: Go See the Matrix, no two ways about it.

This is the second Greatest Science Fiction movie I have ever seen, the best being _Blade Runner_.

ANy Movie that can make Keanu Reeves look like a major asset as an actor is just a perfect example of what a great director , an awesome story and an excellent supporting Cast can do.

Laurence Fishburne is nothing short of Awesome as he plays the role of Morpheous.

And the villians make you feel like our hero's could actually lose, which is a nice change of pace from so many recent Sci-Fi and Action movies.

The DVD version is quite outstanding in it's own right. It has a bevy of features that are great, and if you own a DVD-Rom drive you have some neat additional features as well.

If you have a DVD player you need this movie.

Summary: To each (movie)his own
Review: Good "sci-fi" film. One of the best. Opinions vary, surely, but for this star wars type of movie, I don't believe I've seen much out there better(ok maybe star wars). Bottom line is when you walk out of a movie theatre, the question is not "was it good?", but rather, "did you enjoy it?". And I certainly did.

Summary: Don't believe the hype, but lots of DVD extras
Review: Good job on the DVD, lots of nice extras, especially if you have access to DVD ROM in addition to a standard DVD player.

Unlike most others, however, I didn't care too much for the movie itself...maybe it was just hyped too much, setting up an expectation that it couldn't live up to. Never really cared for the characters...

Summary: good movie, ridiculous story
Review: Good movie, wonderful technically, defined the state of the art in special effects. As science fiction, though, it's preposterous garbage. The premise is banal in the extreme: people lying in pods in a perpetual dream state provide energy to run the computer overlords' machines, while the good guys lurk in a futuristic-but-funky submarine in giant underground sewers. This is the sort of crap that gives sci-fi a bad name. Why in the world didn't they hire someone like Bruce Sterling, or William Gibson, or Greg Bear to provide some intelligent background?

Ah well, enjoy it for what it is, I guess; it shore is purty!

Summary: Attention getter. Great special effects.
Review: Good movie. Great special effects. Story line a little weak but worth watching (maybe twice). Will put subwoofers to the test!!!

Summary: Excellent Worth a look at....
Review: Good story line.....Lacks a bit on acting but makes up for it in special effects...

Summary: Essential DVD
Review: Good Story Line...Good special effects...and just simply one of the best movies of all time. No DVD collection should be without it

Summary: Would've been better without Keanu "Duh" Reeves
Review: Good, original sci-fi flick, but couldn't they have cast someone other than Keanu Reeves in the lead role? He always appears to be a deer frozen in its tracks while gazing at the oncoming headlights.

Still, Lawrence Fishburne turns in a great performance and the story itself is captivating. I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen the film, but suffice it to say that it's the ultimate conspiracy theory.

The effects are top notch, featuring all sorts of cutting-edge visual and sound technology. The DVD version, which I own, is a really nice package. I recommend this movie for the thrill ride even if it does suffer from some unfortunate casting.

Summary: Real-life Ghost in the Shell
Review: Got the DVD of this today, and I must say its quite excellent.

I watched the film in the theater and thought it was okay, but I was mostly watching for the effects so I was rather bored in the middle.

This time, I knew what the effects were going to be (although they're still pretty mind-boggling), but it turns out that there's a pretty coherent story binding it all together. The main premise is one that's been done before (are these lives real, can we just trick our brains into believing it, etc.), but most movies that tend to present this are more muddled or more simplistic than the Matrix.

There are a couple of things that bother me. First, the DVD video quality seems to be a little noisy, although I may be dreaming that. More importantly, I'm still not convinced that Keanu is the greatest for this role (especially when he does his goofy kung fu poses and in the "I don't believe it" speech when he first sees the human farm). Finally, the central premise makes no sense to me: why don't the AIs just remove the matrix and make sure the humans they're farming are never sentient?

Overall, entertaining, visually mind-blowing, and somewhat thought provoking, and wrapped up with lots o extra features for DVD people (and for the price of an audio CD). Highly recommended.
