Summary: Spectacular Action & Special Effects
Review: The Matrix took my breath away with superb slow-motion and fluid "Japanimation" action sequences. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is the best I've heard on any DVD, period. This is the DVD you pull out when you want to demo your home theater system or if you want to sit mesmerized with a great story that brims with spiritual overtones. Clean storyline with no sex or foul language although there are lots of very realistic and superbly choreographed hand to hand fighting and combat sequences. This is a must for all action movie lovers that want a solid all-around movie. The only complaint I have is regarding a green tint to the video (the rumor is that it's an aftereffect of scaling down from the 16:9 encoded picture although not everyone I've heard from has noticed this green tint - adjusting the tv tinting to full red helps greatly). Still a full 5 star thumbs up movie that you will definitely enjoy.

Summary: Matrix: Sci-Fi with Bite
Review: The Matrix totally rocked! This movie was incredible before I bought the DVD. Once I got the DVD, the thrill was pumped up a few hundred notches! The only reason that I only gave it 4 stars, is because I wish it had been packaged in a plastic KeepCase, and a trailer or two. Some of the TV spots would have been cool, too. Also, why do we have to wait so long for the other two installments of this new movie trilogy? Matrix rules! It's a real-life comic book.

Summary: Is this just perception of a good film, or reality?
Review: The Matrix turned out to meet most of my expectations after hearing so much from friends about this film. Special effects were fantastic. Acting was pretty good as well, even for some "unheard of" actors in the suppoting roles. Reeves and Fishbourne were on par, although I wanted to see more action out of Fishbourne.

On the whole, the movie will not sit well with folks who cannot let their minds wander into the complex realm of sci-fi. If you do not want to slip into this format of entertainment for even a few minutes, let alone the whole two hours, don't even hit the play button.

For those of us who appreciate the genre, The Matrix has a creative premise supported by well known sci-fi elements and gimmicks (i.e. AI vs. humans, high-tech hackers taking on the world, icky buglike robots, etc.) Packing the film with action (guns and kung-fu) was merely icing on the cake. The entertainment of this movie comes from the intriguing and deep thought involved in the story.

Summary: it was...good
Review: The Matrix was a good movie but it was far from great. The hype over Matrix 2 is way over blown. I just don't like it when a movie's strongest point is it's special effects. The Matrix storyline takes a backseat to the "wow" factor. It's filled with bad acting and poor matrial arts scenes. The specal effects are neat for the first 20min but get old. How many times does somebody jumping in slow motion look cool? One.

Summary: Stunning effects with a story that will leave you thinking
Review: The Matrix was a movie for both the action seeker and the plot craver. The setting in a computer generated world was perfect for two reasons, anything could happen and at the same time make sense, and left me with a feeling of amazement at the detail that went into writing this movie. You can really appreciate the sense that you had a feeling like you knew this all along, and many of the things said can relate to your everyday life. Such as the de-javu being a glitch in the system. It overall really moved me, complicated me, but in the end, made total complete sense that left me breathless.

Summary: Exhilerating
Review: The Matrix was a movie that you had to understand, to recognize it's genius. I beleive that the matrix is the best movie I have ever seen in my entire life, whats better is that i got to view it on my 60" Television. This motion picture combines special effects, mind ploys, exceptional sound, directing, and acting, to create an amazing action packed movie. Not only does it require you to understand it to take part of it, you have to take some thought to it or it won't have nearly the same effect as it had on me. I don't think i'll ever be the same, the effect the movie had on me was dramatic.

Summary: VR, CG experience I (sadly) won't forget..........
Review: The Matrix was a waste of my time. I could have spent the money on something useful. The acting, trite and sometimes melodramatic, did not help things at all. The special effects, sadly, are the only high points in this film. Judging by the trailers and teasers, I thought we were in for a treat and that this was going to be the kind of movie that defines a decade, the kind we'll be telling our grandchildren about. I was sorely mistaken. I always enjoy a good story, but this is one place I looked and failed to find one. The script was filled with trite remarks and predictable dialogue. This movie was basically nothing but a very expensive cut-and-paste job, blatantly stealing ideas from predecessors -- I found many John Woo, Ghost In The Shell, and Akira ideas here, among others. Is this cutting edge? Is this the best they could do? I hope not. Find something better to do with your time.
