Summary: Wonderful satire from Rod Serling
Review: Man is the most brutal of animals. In this film, that message is central. Think on it after the spectacular ending. One of the best of the SF genre - not to be missed.

Summary: THE ULTIMATE 60'S SCI-FI MOVIE!
Review: I saw this movie for the first time in 1989 and I was stunned. The Statue of Liberty scene broke my heart but there were some of the best acting I had ever scene in this movie.Great makeup by John Chamberlain and great acting by Roddy McDowell,Kim Hunter,Charleton Heston, and many other ape actors.I believe that,in the this area of Sci-Fi,there is no better movie.

Summary: What good sf is all about.
Review: Planet of the Apes is a great sf film because it is about ideas. It uses its far-fetched premise to make a few biting comments about the stae of affairs of humans on earth. In this case, the movie is about the inflexibility of dogma, the narrow-mindedness of the status quo, and the pettiness of those on which we confer power. It is about individuals who will never allow an issue to become clouded by something as annoying as a fact. It is about people who claim to be the custodians of Truth, but would rather destroy Truth if it turns out to be something other than what they were expecting. It's spiritual anscestor is Swift's Gulliver's Travels. The ending is far more troubling than what is reviealed in its initial shock. If inflexibility, hatred and fear are what destroys the humans on this planet, what will become of its simian inheritors?

Summary: Apes unmasks humanity
Review: While many of its fans hail the original Planet of the Apes as one of the touchstones for modern sci-fi and fantasy films, it is a fabulously conceived movie that is more satire than science fiction. Upon close inspection, the viewer will discover that Apes was almost literally developed from the Gulliver's Travels and Alice in Wonderland molds. In it, we find a quartet of American astronauts crashlanding their wayward spaceship on what initially seems like a barren planet. But, as the title indicates, they soon discover the planet is inhabited by a civilization of intelligent apes who have little use for humans. Since the Apes myth is already prevasive in American culture (from Charlton Heston's over-the-top performance and the apes' make-up to the surprise ending), hopefully the viewer will watch this installment not like your run-of-the-mill movie but like a documentary. Pay close attention to the carefully couched commentary about human society and its tendencies(particularly those of America circa 1960s and 1970s)and the nihlistic conclusions drawn. Those are what truly make Planet of the Apes a can't miss classic.

Summary: Planet of the Apes is Pure Twilight Zone
Review: Tim Burton couldn;t do it right in this past summer's Apes remake movie. But Arthur P. Jacobs, film line producer at 20th Century Fox could. This is science fiction at some of it's best as a group of astronauts crash land on a planet ruled by a race of intelligent apes and the surprise ending of this movie is pure genius. Intelligent screenplay by Rod Serling. Great performances by the cast; Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowell, Kim Hunter, Maurice Evans, Linda Harrison, Lou Wagner, James Whitmore, and James Daley. Good direction by Franklin J. Schafner. Music by Jerry Goldsmith.

Summary: A film for all seasons
Review: Sci-fi at it's best with Charlton Heston (in top condtion) and two other astronauts blasting forward in time and landing on a planet ruled by super-intellegent apes (10X more intellegent than Chubocca). Everything is outstanding, notably the make-up, direction and script (based on the french novel by Pierre Boileau who also wrote the original novel for Alfred Hitchcock's VERTIGO). You MUST see this whether you're a sci-fi fan or not.
