Summary: 2nd Parts are the Trickiest of a 3 Parter
Review: I think the only real problem with Matrix Reloaded is that as Neo and the rest gain their humanity they seem to become stiffer and more mechanical... kind of ironic I think...or am I mixing being 'cool' with my ideal of humanity? I thought the movie was good, the rave was silly and I was majorly amused by the people who hated the film. After all, what people don't seem to realize is a middle film in a trilogy is just that, the middle, they can only do so much without ending the story. Most of the story plot action is the first film and will be in the third film. So why be hard on the film? Now that you have the DVD you can skip through the Rave and enjoy the rest. I admit I didn't see this film more than twice when in theaters, and one of those times was when it was re-issued on IMAX screens (Matix I must have seen 6+ times) But I think the movie does what it is suppose to do. Moves the story line along (dangles a few new things that will explain the last movie installment to come) and surrounded it with kick-ass chase and fight scenes. I try to see the movie on it's own and not have it conform to past memories and feelings of the last movie (though I am sorry they got rid of the operator...he was a cutie). Past that I would add this to your collection, or wait for the Super Duper Kitchen Sink Edition that includes even more.

Summary: Not sure why soo many hated it
Review: I'll admit that my expectations were extremely high and I was let down just a little, but I thought this movie was very good. I like The Matrix a little better but I thought Reloaded had enough drama and action to appeal to all Matrix fans. On the eve of their fight with the sentinels, the people of Zion celebrate the only thing they have left, their humanity. To keep their humanity, Neo, Trinity and Morpheus must somehow defeat the controller of the matrix. The movie ends with a cliff-hanger that had everyone wondering what's going to happen next. Forget the bad reviews and see it for yourself.

Summary: A mediocre movie gets a dismal DVD
Review: Technically, this movie is brilliant. Artistically, it leaves a lot to be desired. The first movie was full of suspence, mystery, and tension. This movie feels like an afterthought. Honestly, if you cut out all the FX and unnecessarily long fight scenes, the movie would be 20 minutes long.As for the DVD: no commentary, no deleted scenes, no interview with the directors... surely there must be something on here to make up for the glaring abscence of those features. What's this? some... commercials? and.. Justin Timberlake? Seriously, the DVD is one giant commercial for Powerade, Samsung, MTV, and other products in the Matrix series (the Enter the Matrix game, the Animatrix...etc.) As hyped as this movie was and as much money as it made, it surely could've gotten the extended, collector's edition treatment. I can only conclude that the Wachowski's were busy with the final movie in the trilogy and had no time for this release. I sure hope it was worth it. Of course if you're a Matrix fan, you've already bought this, so my point is moot.

Summary: *Sigh* You know, with that much money....
Review: ... you'd think they could do better. The Matrix was an okay film in itself, though the ecstatic screams of its fans mask the fact that virtually everything they were going ga-ga over had been done before, and better, by a number of other films. It had one screamingly stupid plot hole, but that doesn't make it unique either. I thought that with the second film they might be able to come up with something interesting, having now established their background. Sadly, the result is considerably LESS than its predecessor promised. I don't know if it's the direction or Reeves' interpretation, but Keanu is, if anything, more woodenly expressionless in Matrix Reloaded than he was in the first Matrix -- which wasn't at all his best work in the area of expression. There's a far too overextended and sadly uninteresting sex sequence (I understand the story point, but it's far too long just to make the point), and somehow the choreography doesn't quite WORK. In that, it reminded me of Tomb Raider (the first movie): here you have all these elements that SHOULD work, and somehow it's all falling completely flat. Alas. Something interesting could have been done with this, but instead we just get lots of lackluster acrobatics and combat scenes.

Summary: Philosophy and Car Chases
Review: I liked The Matrix a lot. Who didn't, really? However, I've always restrained myself from the deification that is thrust upon it. I wanted more plot and ideas and less special effects and shootouts. I never found The Matrix completely satisfying because the Wachowski brothers managed to nullify their great ideas with Hollywood predictability. To quote Roger Ebert, "There's something disappointing about a movie that begins by questioning the nature of the universe and ends with a shootout." The Matrix Reloaded is an even bigger example of this. The "plot" being used as a tool for stringing along a series of action sequences and CGI effects. Lots and lots of CGI effects. How much? Just think of the most CGI you can imagine in a movie and then double it. That's The Matrix Reloaded. Perhaps it's appropriate since the story itself deals with computer programs, however to me The Matrix Reloaded felt less like a film and more like a video game that you are unable to control. This coupled with George Lucas' Episodes 1 and 2 has made me wary of modern movie technology. Gone is the mystery of movie special effects. It's no longer, "How did they do that?". Now it's "What computer program did they use to do that?". I know I sound like an old fogey (I'm only 23) but they truly don't make 'em like they used to. If this is filmmaking for the 21st century, then I will happily stay in the past with my CGI-free copies of The Godfather and Casablanca.

Summary: Substandard movie made worse by a bad DVD!
Review: Rented Reloaded today to see it again. Now the movie itself has divided opinion, I personally think it sucks and is probably one of the most disappointing sequels in the history of sequels! Not that it's a "bad" movie per se, it has lots of action, effects, etc. It's just poorly directed, written, and edited, and the final product shows. As far as this DVD release goes, way to make the movie worse WB and Wachowski brothers! The first disc contains ONLY the movie, NO commentaries or anything else. Disc #2 has a FEW behind-the-scenes type featurettes plus some worthless specials like a TV commercials featurette and so on. NO deleted scenes or actually informative specials, and the two directors never once pop up for an interview spot. What, they can't show for an interview somewhere? This DVD release is pathetic given the amount of hype behind the movie, I bet WB has a "Special Edition" DVD in the works already, wait for that if you plan on buying this movie! Bad, bad DVD for the 2003 summer blockbuster that raked in more than $250M at the box office.

Summary: Much Better The Second Time Around
Review: I admit, after seeing The Matrix Reloaded at the theater, I thought it was a real "floater". I knew however, that when it came out on DVD, I would rent it. If you are one of the many, it seems, who did not like Reloaded at the theater, rent it now and watch it again. It amazes me how many movies I have seen at the theater and did not like them. Then, after they came out on video, I was hesitant about renting them, but did, and for the most part, I have enjoyed them much more the second time around. People disect this movie too much it seems. Yes, there are a some unanswered questions, but if there were not, then what would the mystery be leading into Revolutions? Give it another watch, you might be surprised.

Summary: The rabbit hole gets deeper and deeper
Review: I'm amazed to read some of these reviews. Only one reviewer so far has hit on some of the intriguing aspects of what the matrix is doing here. I'll have to watch a few more times to see what is actually "repeating", but the end of this movie blew me away. Stopping those sentinels "outside" of the matrix??? What was that. Very few sequels capture the audience like the first, because the story is already out there, and we anticipate what will happen next. Especially a sandwiched sequel like this. I've seen the previews of revolutions and it just makes me want to watch all this even more. I would also reccomend watching the animatrix. It definitely adds to the story line by telling a prequel scene to the matrix reloaded and also adding the history of man vs machine. Stop being impressed or put off by the action in the movie and think a little more about the story line. The Wachowskis are weaving one helluva web here!

Summary: Bigger isn't always better
Review: How do you top a global phenomenon? Easy, make 2. The Wachowski Brothers(directors) and Joel Silver(producer) first blew people's minds with 1999's the Matrix. It really was something nobody had seen before. So to top it they went over the top, and possibly a little overboard. Neo, now the One, and Trinity are lovers now and he keeps having nightmares of her. In the middle of this, sentinels(those big bug-like things at the end of the first one) have been dispatched to destroy Zion, the last city on Earth and Neo and Co. are giving very little time to do so. So Neo goes here and there getting answers and stopping the machines. The problem with this? You can obviously see Silver and the Wachowskis took their budget and used it a lot on special effects. Remember how in the Matrix the bullet time effect really only rotated around the central screen? Now it's going all over the place. Remember Neo's brief but sweet fight against Smith in the subway? Well now he's facing 100 of them. Therein lies the problem: waaaaaaay too much. More fights, more longer fights and more "dazzling" effects, and they do dazzle. But then they go.....and go......and go...... and so on. Despite story shortcomings and an obvious penchant for bigger effects and fights, those fights are rather awesome to watch, seeing Neo doing all these inhuman acrobatics you wish you could do. Well, a good thing about this movie despite the fights? You know Revolutions has gotta be better than this

Review: people disliked this movie because of its long endless battle scenes and its called The Matrix people and its science fiction, who cares. the action is key with the battle with Neo and Agent Smith the highlight, man can that guy multilpy. people are weird if they didnt like this and some are the fans of the first one. we all know how the first one was more storyform but this one has story in it too people and action. lots of folks like to see a lot of action and this one if cool. the ending is a cliffhanger leading to the 3rd one The Matrix Revolutions coming out November 5th, and I cant wait
