Summary: TENSE SCI-FI HORROR THRILLER
Review: I know it doesn't really come under horror, but some of the scenes were quite creepy and suspenseful. It's tense all the way through, but the best part of the movie is the very beginning. The film starts to get a bit confusing later on though, but still a good watch. 3 or 3 1/2 stars.

Summary: The new era of filmmaking
Review: First of all I m not gonna use the word "similar". This movie is unique. Truly and purely unique. If you think about universal mysteries, the future and past of humankind, aliens your desperate cries will reach end. Dark city makes a historical movement and giving all the possible answers for your life-long questions. Alex Proyas delivers not only true potential of a sci fi movie but also critisizing human history. Film itself has a great plot and story. The cinematography reaches purification of using light throughout movie. Everyone pointed out the perfect fx directing of Matrix but they missed Dark City's merged breathtaking both sound and visual effects. The crew perfect especially Keiffer Sutherland portrayed a doctor again (he was a good appr.Doc in Flatliners)and this time he reaches a perfect combination. his acting talking truly addictive. Rufus Sewell also delivering a great performance. Do i have to say something about Connely or Hurt. Actually i recommend this movie to anyone. If you accidentally think that Matrix is a milestone think again, once you walk on the dark streets of the Dark City. You ll find the truth. And one special note; stop weeping around because of Kubrick's death.Proyas is still alive and he is so young..and Australia.. see.. not just the Hollywood can reach the stars.

Summary: originally a dream than to the screen
Review: when I first saw the trailer of this movie I thought it was a piece of crap then I watched it and I was simply amazed how groundbreaking this movie was. starting a new standard and how science-fiction movies are made. making you think about could this happen, taking you to a other place inside your mind , opening your imagination and making you use more of your brain. There will never be a movie that can hold to all the standards in this movie. matrix had the special effects but not the story like dark City, 13 floor was amazing but did not have the same feeling. Before I close one last comment this is a masterpiece and should be in any science-fiction fans collection!

Summary: BEST SCIENCE FICTION FILM OF THE 90s!
Review: This is a film that screams originality! It takes you to another world or maybe a different time period. "Dark City" begins by really telling you nothing about who is the bad guy or who is the good guy. One of the great things about the movie is that you discover all the secrets throughout the film. The movie really doesn't explain itself but try and have you explain it. This movie always gets compared with "The Matrix". Both have a very similar story line. "The Matrix" sets its world in modern day while "Dark City" goes into an unknown world with 1950s qualities. You can decide which setting you like better after you see the films. But "The Matrix only teases us with ideas of a great science fiction and falters in the end to another action film with an action flim ending while "Dark City" delivers with a plot that is science fiction to all the action films. I don't know why people call "Dark City" a copycat of "The Matrix" once it came out over a year before it. The movie does not have long shots in it but a lot of shorter shots that make it an hour and a half film. A lot of people did not like the film going so fast. I liked how they made it faster because it set up the film to be better on more viewings. The movie doesn't show everything it has on one viewing, but lets you notice more and more small little detalis that enhances the film even more. This is a lot like "2001: A Space Odyssey" in which it was hated by a lot of people on first viewing but over the years of people seeing it more than once came to give it its current reputation. I'm not actually tell you about the story where it is better to let you discover it for yourself. I do assure you that there are great performances in this film especially by Kiefer Sutherland in his supporting role.

Summary: Setting things straight
Review: Firstly - this is not similar to The Matrix. The Matrix is similar to Dark City, something that most people seem to forget. The film itself is brilliant with a story that will blow you away. Just don' t miss it. Or miss it and run to the nearest cinema to watch it in 20 years time, when it will be considered a classic.

Summary: It's better if you mute it, but not enough.
Review: This movie is god awful. True, the production design is outstanding, so incredible in fact that it ultimately only serves to chide and mock the poor viewer who was hoping for actual entertainment. The director has so little idea of how to make a film (not a computer graphic) that, in this so called, "Film Nior", there is not a single moment of silence through the entire thing. The soundtrack works continuously and in vain to tie the horribly rushed and underdeveloped scenes together; so much so that for the first time in my life I thought I was having an anxiety attack. A dear friend of mine put it best by describing it as a 100 minute recap of last week's episode. Everything is rushed, everything is wasted.

I will say that my wonderful friend Jeanette played one of the baddies, and she should really do more films. She was also in the Cheech Marin vehicle, "Shrimp on the Barbie", which I would rather watch a thousand times than another minute of Dark City. That should begin to give you some idea of how unpleasant it really, truly is.

Summary: oNe Of ThE bEsT oF tHe YeAr!
Review: This was truly one of the best films of 1998, and BY FAR superior than Titanic. Some have claimed that the actors appear shallow and confused, but I think that's the way they should be. Their memories are erased and replaced every night. The Strangers are a stroke of acting and costuming genius. They glide and walk, searching for the human soul, in their black trenchcoats and bald heads. But the best part of this movie is the scenery, the huge skyscrapers and dark streets are amazing. Buy this DVD!

Summary: Dark City - a classic
Review: I had "Dark City" on VHS, but bought it again on DVD after I purchased a DVD player. This really is a great movie, not only for it's beautiful photography, but also for excellent storytelling. The movie really does deserve to be watched twice before judging. When I watched this movie the first time, I felt the same emotions that the main character, John Murdock felt, because I was so confused - as was he - about what was happening to him. As the movie progressed, and Mr. Murdock, yes, became more aware, so did I. Excellent, Excellent. Great DVD features as well with 2 commentary tracks. I would give it more stars if possible.

Summary: See this not the Matirix.
Review: This is by far better than the Matrix. Better story, better acting, better special effects, better stars. This movie was the reason I bought a DVD player.

Summary: The Acting is Exellent
Review: Anyone who complains of bad or shallow acting is missing the point. The characters are living live that they've been thrust unto, by the Stranger's memory shots. The actors have to act like a person living someone else's life, which they do quite effectively.
