Summary: Excellent, except for some nits to pick.
Review: This movie intrigues, stimulates thought, and fully provokes attention. I want to address the various criticisms. First, the movie does drag somewhat, especially at the asylum, yet all this is forgivable because virtually every fact exposed in that segment serves as foundation for the rest of the film. Second, the romance is depicted awkwardly and is indeed unconvincing, but not entirely unbelievable; hence, this is a small flaw, especially in a movie not intended as a romance. Third, the ending is strange, and not entirely logical. I believe this resulted from Gilliam's own indecision and ambivalence: It's nearly impossible to have an ending that is deliberately subtle and unexplained, and leaves the audience debating, and yet remain logical and coherent. The woman on the plane - the scientist - is there to get a sample (if I understood the director's comments), yet she is exposing herself to the virus. In the beginning, Cole was told that a break in his suit would bar him from returning from the surface, presumably because he would be carrying the virus. How then is the scientist supposed to go back if she has been similarly exposed? There are a few possibilities, but they are embarrassingly far-fetched. Convoluted? Yes, but this movie has substance, unlike so many "hits" that should shame their directors, producers and other garbage men. The DVD (Collectors Edition) is very well done. The commentary augments the experience a lot, and the "Making of..." is interesting. The video quality is good, though not the best possible for a DVD. Unlike most DVD purchasers, I tend to be parsimonious in my ratings. A 4.5 would be the most accurate because of the few minor flaws in this package.

Summary: Confusing
Review: What is it with Bruce Willis, he seems to like movies with numbers in: 5th element, 12 monkeys, 6th sense. Anyway, there were no moneys in this movie, so don't be mislead.

Summary: Best SF Film of 1990s
Review: In a film genre dominated by the saccharine fantasies of Lucas and Spielberg, it is refreshing to come across a movie that is visually stunning and logically constructed.

We see Willis and Pitt at the top of their game, playing characters who might or might not be crazy. We glimpse a depopulated future only slightly less run-down than the present. We observe events that might or might not help humanity repopulate the earth. (Think of the conversation on the airplane.) And it's all viewed through the surreal lens of Gilliam, part Fellini, part Bosch, part Philip K. Dick.

A masterpiece.

Summary: 12 monkeys captures the sense of some of my dreams
Review: This movie made me fall a little in love with Bruce Willis and made me take Brad Pitt more seriously as an actor. If you're looking for the basic sci-fi time travel flick to kill a couple of hours, this isn't the movie for it. There's a strange sense of hopelessness that will stay with you for days in this well-crafted piece of science and-dare i say-romance.

Summary: Amazing
Review: Yikes. A very thoughtful science fiction movie/horror movie/comedy/drama/action from acclaimed director Terry Gilliam. Bruce Willis turns in his best performance as does Brad Pitt. I haven't tried it...but I think this must be what watching movies while high is like.

Summary: Dream like and surreal imagery
Review: Bruce Willis stars in this semi-sci-fi video along with Madeline Stowe and Brad Pitt. Pitt won the Golden Globe as Best supporting actor and also earned an Oscar nomination for his role as the mental patient and scientist son who was off his rocker. Check out the sanitary room scene where Pitt jumps all over the place. Interesting. There was a sentimental, romantic tone between the main character played by Willis and Stowe. It almost looked like there would be a happy ending to this video, but it's not the case. Watch it. Another interesting aspect of this video was when Willis came in and out of different time zones throughout the video. His job was to find the resource of the 12 Monkeys who would exterminate the human race in 1996. He had a band of scientists always crawling off his back wanting to know his progress in preventing the 12 monkeys from causing world destruction. The video was a surprise to me. I thought it would be the typical time travel schoomze, but there's a mix of everything in this one. Terry Gilliams offbeat production makes the video very humorous and intices the audience to watch for the next scene which is unpredictable. The soundtrack with accordion theme song is weird, but brings out a zoo-like atmosphere like when the monkey dances with the man with the music grinder. I don't know if ther was a connection, but it gave me the impression. If you like Gilliams's style of humour you'll enjoy 12 Monkeys. Excellent.

Review: ...I mean, I love this movie, as well as 5th Element and 6th Sense. How many actors have three terrific movies under their belts?

Summary: Get the film today! You can't make it become yesterday...
Review: No flaws, no noticeable direction errors, no stupid cutting room blunders. The whole film is sheer perfection.
Bruce Willis puts down a breathtakingly real character here (he really BECOMES Cole), with Brad Pitt ("He's seriously crazy") and Madeleine Stowe ("WOMEN psychiatrists...") as great supporters. Awesome special effects too; note the startling camera angles and gloomy sets.
Thank you, mr. Terry Gilliam, for sharing this film with the public.
On top of all that, the DVD version is overloaded with extra's.

One word of caution: this film is NOT suitable for children!

Summary: interesting time travel tale
Review: But where are the monkeys? I went into this movie hoping for a good monkey movie, and instead got a good sci-fi movie. I mean, i'm not complaining... but i like monkeys. Alot.
