Summary: Far Better Than Resident Evil
Review: My first notion was to compare this to Resident Evil, or Night Of The Living Dead - but I was on the wrong track. I have been a long time fan of the Resident Evil franchise - but even I have to admit - this movie far surpasses anything in it's category before it. Sure - the concept is similar: A virus of the blood turns the world into monsters, but these aren't your average zombies. I thought of slow ambling, mindless, flesh eating, rotten fiends. Nope. These are extremely fast moving, focused, rage-filled, fresh and alive humans. The virus ignites uncontrolable, inhuman rage within its host in a matter of 20 seconds or less. So what you have - in effect - is a hyped up zombie on steroids. And their purpose isn't so much to eat flesh as it is to violently murder any non-host in their path. Sound gory? It is. Very graphic, and very real-looking. Remember how Saving Private Ryan was so surreal - how it looked like it was shot on home video cameras - made you feel like you were there? Well this movie is done in a very similar style. It all appears to be organic - none of it feels staged. And the movie is never predicatble - never dull - and it never slows down. From start to finish it is an all out intense gore-feast, tailor made for true horror movie fans. The scenes of the deserted cities are captivating with an absolute feeling of void emptiness. It conveys a solid feeling of hollow unease and panicked desperation. The movie has a real sense of fear in the "What if this actually happened?" fashion. Because with all the new viruses we have these days. . . who's to say it couldn't happen? ;-)

Review: there are several movies of outbreaks and infection chains,but
no movie has gone this far,like what could happend after the
infection? who survives? how can they reproduce again? this is a
good survival horror film...really good...keep making films as
interest as this one.

Summary: heh, resident evil was much better belive it or not.
Review: 28 days is more of a psychological mish-mash of a suspense as oppossed to real horror,the so called zombies are nothing more than red eyed crazies, who barf and beat up their victims. ("ooh scary, yeah right) days borrows heavly off of stephen king
's the stand,the omega man and even a scene from escape from ny where a cab crases over a pile of cars.the alternate endings and some deleted scenes were much scarier,especially the radical ending. how cool was that?
compared to night of the living dead,lucio fulci's spaghetti thriller; ZOMBIE or even sony's resident evil flick which had scarier zombies 28 days fails to impress.

Summary: Great End of the World/Horror Film
Review: "28 Day Later" is a great "End of the World"/Horror Film. The cast are for the most part unknows do a great part of bringing the terror of the "Rage" virus that has swept most of England, killed many and left a few of the uninfected fighting for survival. The director a great job! This movie should not be missed by any fan of either genres.

Summary: LIMEY ZOMBIES AT LARGE
Review: On the other end of the zombie spectrum from Rob Zombie's HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, Danny Boyle's lucid nightmare, 28 DAYS LATER (Fox), is set in a very familiar daylight world of London and rural Britain where a plague of rage has infected the populace. Bits of black humor and flashes of tenderness intersperse the relentless, violent zombie attacks.

Summary: Darn, I wanted to love this movie!
Review: Great concept, great photography, great acting and great scares. Unfortunately, the story was executed poorly, and there was obviously little or no effort put into the third act, where the whole thing flew apart and ended with a anticlimactic thud. Danny Boyle is an incredible filmmaker, and I was expecting more from him, which may be why I was soooooo disappointed. He admits (in the commentary on the "radical alternative ending") that they were completely reworking the entire third act while in post-production, which should tell you something. Still worth a rent, but a title that is not bound for my permanent collection.

Summary: Watchable...like maybe once or twice.
Review: I had heard alot of good things about 28 Days Later. I was disappointed I didn't get to see it in it's short run in the theatres. One critic listed on the DVD claimed it was the scariest movie since the Exorcist. I knew that the movie was about a coma patient that awakens to a world virtually wiped out that has been decimated by a disease. The former victims of this disease (called the Rage) became rabid like and attack normal people. They are mindless and instinct driven and they are festering with boils and in a state of subtle decomposition. He allies with a few remaining survivors to find salvation in this existence that seems to leave the survival of mankind without hope. It sounds good doesn't it? Zombie like creatures? Sense of hopelessness? The strife of the human spirit over adversity? Coming to grips with a new and very dangerous world where one must be resourceful and determined to make it through the nights. Your hopes like mine are about to be shattered. This movie was an utter disappointment. The only "scares" come from certain jump scenes. Yes the world is decimated leaving really no "infected" around to really oppose the main characters. Heck you heardly even see any in the movie. They sleep in open areas and run down homes with open doors and windows and aren't even stirred by midnight encounters. We do see alot of low budget explosions, alot of British humor, and a small Eurupeon equivilant of a GEO Metro drive over a massive pile of wrecked vehicles as if it were a monster truck. The road outside of this one fleeting scene though are blissfully empty. Where are the stalled remains of vehicles all over where the population rushed to leave during the crisis? The roads seem like they'd be unusable and littered with debris. How come when we actually do see dead people only one in about 1000 seems to be infected. Never during the filming did I get a sense of hopelessness, appreciation for the human will, or even a good look at the running, jumping, and gyrating infected victims. The main characters are simply boring and despite an attempt to paint them up as the "good guys" we tend to not really care. Even the innocent young girl is so geeked on valiums in the latter part of the movie she is almost annoying. She does instantly sober when in threat of being attacked by the infected. Basically I don't understand how the world was decimated. This movie makes survival seem easy. I'm not impressed and I say this movie is a weekend rental to sate you curiousities.

Summary: All Alone In The World
Review: The 1960's and 70's saw many cautionary tales find their way on to the big screen. The driving force behind the trend back then, was the cold war, and fear over nuclear anihilation. In the 80's, those fears were lessoned, and the genre was not as prominent. The cynical 90's saw the return of the doom and gloom senerio into the movies. With our fears over bio-terrorism and more attacks, the horror seems all too real, in 28 Days Later. After spending some time in a coma, Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up and discovers London deserted. Unsure of what happened, while he was asleep, he decides to search for survivors. In his travels, he is confronted by both a mob of crazed plague victims and other still-human survivors. Jim befriends human Selena (Naomie Harris), and the two decide to head off across the deserted countryside to find the source of a mysterious radio signal. The signal may hold the key to mankind's salvation. Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland capitalize on very real concerns to make a very creepy film. Given the state of our world today, the feeling of unease created by the film, sets in very early. It only gets worse as the film progresses. Another point to all this, is the way things are presented very realistically--nothing gets too scifiish. This could happen. As frightening as that may be--the movie manages to entertain underneath all of its realism. As much as it may be uncomfortable to watch at times, it still draws you in, and that's no easy feat. The DVD is packed with some decent extras (and some not). The audio commentary by Boyle and Garland is quite good and ranks as one of the best I've heard of late. There's not one, not two, but three alternate endings. Each of which, can be viewed with optional commentary, but the best version has to be the "radical" ending. You can also watch six deleted scenes with optional commentary, none of which, add to the movie, all that much. The Making of 28 Days Later featurette is fairly boring. I don't feel like hearing from "experts" about how real this could be--the movie does that just fine and this type of re-enforcement is not really needed. A section of animated storyboards from the original U.K. website, a group of production and Polaroid galleries with director commentary, a Jacknife Lee music video, and the theatrical trailer, top off the bonus material. All of which is standard fare on most DVD's today. 28 Days Later will "freak" you out for sure. Recommended

Summary: Well crafted and suspenseful
Review: If one was expected to be scared, it didn't do that for me. If one wanted to be held in suspense with a very good story line then this DVD does the trick. The story holds up throughout the movie and keeps the suspense at a high level. I felt there were homages to movies before (Clockwork Orange on showing repeated violence ala chimps) and wondering if there were other survivors out there ala On the Beach.) This DVD belongs in a serious collection of suspense movies and if one is easily scared, then in a collection of horror movies. The alternate endings are best played with the commentary to understand the thought process behind the proposed endings. If one watches the trailers -- both the teaser trailer and the final trailer after watching the movie, one gets a true insight into marketing.
