Summary: One of the best ten films in my lifetime
Review: In sixty years of watching movies, one must choose well if one wants to mention favorite ones. 2001 is certainly one of the 10 best in my lifetime. So much has been written about Kubrick's masterpiece that I will only add one thought: What is symbolized by the monolith? All kinds of suggestions have been presented. It might be a symbol for a force in the universe that guides the evolutionary process of humankind.

Summary: Essence without structure
Review: The problem with this movie is that it gives you the essence of Clarke's works without the structure. The structure matters because the natural world does have rules at an observable level. Even modern physics doesn't validate magic as some would think. This doesn't mean the rules are absolute, but they matter. Maybe the structure was there & I just missed it. If so it's a great movie.

Summary: Content ***** - DVD Quality *
Review: Unfortunately, I will have to agree with some of the previous comments which blast the quality of the video transfer to DVD - it's abysmal. I can see how this movie might have been a challenge to transfer given its level of visual detail, but I find it hard believe that this is the best job they could do.

As for the movie itself, well, it's a masterpiece of filmmaking which represents Kubrick in his finest hour. He was a director of rare talent and insight, and I was deeply saddened to hear news of his death this morning.

Cheers, Stanley!

Summary: Excellent
Review: It was the type of movie that most people don't get the first time they see it. The imagery and the music is what tells the story.

Summary: Spectacular, poetic filmmaking.
Review: Visually, and intellectually, the greatest film made. It delves into the essence of what being human is all about. It explores the evolution of human thought. A masterpiece.

Summary: HAL beta-tests Windows2001
Review: A fascinating film encompassing two extraordinary leaps in the evolution of mankind; first, as a pre-civilized simian is inspired with thought by the simultaneously simple and complex tool of an unseen alien force (the Monolith), and next, a few million years later when man has progressed far enough to trigger the next stage of evolution by reaching for the stars. Visually stunning and far ahead of it's time, 2001 continues to please even today. Highly recommended for thinkers. Do not watch the death/rebirth evolution of Dave (zooming through a plethora of landscapes and color) while under the influence.

Summary: GREATEST SPACE ADVENTURE
Review: A absolutely captavating film by the brillant Stanley Kubrick. This is a visual masterpiece and the greatest use of atmosphere in cinema ever.....period. The appearances of the Monolith are visually chilling. An excellent movie to say the least.

Summary: 2001: a nice idea but a terrible movie
Review: 2001 was a very complex and insightful movie, but it lagged everywhere and just was not very entertaining. Many scenes were excessively long and their added length just showed the same basic material over and over until you just wanted to scream "OK! I GOT IT! MOVE ON!" You could have editted at least fourty-five minutes off of the movie and you wouldn't have lost any of the content.

Summary: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Most phenomial film ever made
Review: Alot of people think that 2001 is a boring movie with oprah music constantly. 2001 does have oprah music, but it is certinaly not boring. In order to grasp the meaning of this movie, you must see it more then once. Being that this movie has little dialog, and it is mostly music. You cannot simply listen to this movie, to grasp the meaning.

Summary: When does it end!
Review: What can be said about a film which starts at the beginning of life and ends in the future. Its long! Half of it didn't make sense, and Stanley Kubrick (the director) who thought it would be clever by changing the camera angles all the time was an idiot, it just made you dizzy.Yes, yes it was different but don't go over board. Still, far better than most films you see these days as it had a storyline, don't be shocked by this kids, unfortunately you couldn't understand it. Nevermind a good attempt all the same.
