Summary: VERY,VERY ODD FILM IS VERY VERY COOL
Review: This David Cronenberg film written and directed by the master of Sci-Fi is very, very odd! From beginning to end, twists, turns and very strange splatter gore inhabit this amazing film. Better than The Matrix at some points, harder to follow certainly, but one of the better sci-fi films I've seen!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Definetly not better than Matrix
Review: Visual effects are okay but for a DVD movie when your talking sound effects its not worth buying. I wish I could've exchange it for a better movie with good acting and storyline. Don't let the cover fool you.

Summary: Horrible
Review: I love sci-fi movies, but this one I found to be boring. The only reason why I have rented it in the beginning was to see Kris Lemche in it. When I have read about them playing a game, I thought it was going to be somewhat like The LawnMower man. Well part 2, but it was far from it. I haven't seen the Matrix yet, but the previews for the Matrix looks good and I have heard that it is a good movie as well.

Summary: Not for the feeble minded.
Review: This is Cronenberg at his most artistic and insightful. Forget about video games, genetic engineering and a slightly futuristic corporate controlled America. How about Socrates looking at those shadows in the cave? This is a film about the very nature of reality. Who else is making movies that are asking questions like those posed in this film?

Summary: Where did it go wrong? I have a theory.
Review: Everyone who worked on this film has a solid track record of delivering on their promise. The film had a great premise and started out with the correct amount of suspense. At some point it lost me. Maybe it was when the sexual innuendoes with the game station went from subtle, to obvious, to absurd. Maybe it was when I realized that the actors weren't just acting like they were acting bad, but really were acting bad. Maybe it was when the retarded dialog finally got to me or the fact that the movie was clearly written by someone who has no idea how computers really work.

I really wanted to like the film but couldn't shake the feeling that Cronenburg initially had some very interesting things to say, and made a great film. He then took it too the studio which said, "4 hours are you nuts? Cut it down to two hours."

To which David replied, "But then I won't have all the time I need to explain my interesting philosophy with a ripped off name."

"Well just keep the scenes with Jennifer Jason Leigh's butt. I think we can market that."

Summary: This is on my list of all time Turkeys
Review: Oh dear! Bored after the first five minutes and I just knew it would get better..but it didn't. It just trundled on, throwing in new characters now and again, until the predictable ending. The characters acted like the were in a computer game throughout - but if this 'game' was released I think games players would leave it on the shelve. So, is this an insight into computer games of the future ? - nope! There are so many sci-fi programs and films that actaully have an INTELLIGENT insight into the future, that you shouldn't bother with dull, unimaginative and dreadful nonsense like this. I don't understand why people compare this to the Matrix - 2 very different films. Matrix has a vision of the future not unlike Terminator, eXistenZ has a blurred vision that seems to be based on the worst computer games ever written. One word - DON'T

Summary: This is only a OK movie
Review: This is only a ok movie. Those who label this movie as a "thinking mans Matrix" are really giving themselves to much credit. I found this movie amusing at times, but boring at others. The plot was inconsistent and the ending was vague and almost meaningless.

Summary: Imaginative futuristic Virtual Reality game within a game
Review: eXistenz is a uniquely architected thriller. It will keep you guessing at what you can't imagine will happen next. Keeping you, as well as some of the characters in the dark as to what is real and what is unreal. You are forced to follow the plot as it develops as you are being plunged into scenarios in which nothing makes immediate sense and always takes another scene to figure out. The acting is excellent . Jennifer Jason Leigh is a perfect personality for her character at once innocent and covertely knowing much more.Sara Polley is also perfect as an innocent who in time accepts his role in eXistenz. All very good with the proverbial twist at the end. Also there are some really yukky scenes that test your tolerance for Yuk.

Summary: It was ok.
Review: I thought this film was ok. Not great, not bad, just ok. It was just a little slow in parts. The overall concept was great, however. I could have done without the back installation imagery. Worth renting, sure. Buying? Maybe if you are a huge Chronenberg fan or if you have money to burn. I just don't think it will hold up to repeated viewings.

Summary: Zero stars!
Review: What an awful, awful movie. Its only redeeming feature was that it was under two hours long, thereby wasting less of my life.

How disappointing that Amazon requires one to give it any stars at all.
