Rating: Summary: Absolutely GREAT! Review: This is a sterling example of quality humor thinly veiled as children's cartoon. Yes, it is perfect for children; the humor is innocent and full of character-building lessons, the jokes are neither vaulted over young heads, nor is there any pandering to juvenile scatology. But it is noble originality of this great creative work is that will make it a perennial classic. It combines high moral lessons and soul-stretching beauty of Jewish humor with fine Disney animation. The music is variegated, lively and SWINGS!. (Tom Jones still has it!) The jokes are a combination of anachronistic original thought and new treatments of classic gags. The characters are caricatures of archetypes you'll immediately recognize in your adult life. (Anyone who has ever worked in the food service industry will flip in the diner scene!) The movie is not slow! It starts fast then accelerates. The climax is a surprising crescendo that gets better till the very end. I have watched this numerous times with my daughter and several adult friends. We all get something new with every viewing and always find it refreshingly funny. It is now one of my all-time comedy favorites along with 'Raising Arizona'. I bought two copies, one to keep and one to give to a friend. To help support quality culture in this great collaborative art form, I suggest you do the same. My friends and I give it the highest possible rating.
Rating: Summary: "A toast to the Emperor!" Review: When I first heard about the plot of the revamped "Kingdom of the Sun" I thought it was going to be the worst animated Disney feature in history. Most songs from Sting were not going to be used at all. However, The Emperor's New Groove turned out to be a fantastic movie, in my opinion at least. It had some bad reviews and a lot of criticism from Disney-fans. But, I'm a long-time Disneyfan myself and I must say that, although it's definitely not what you expect from Disney, this movie is NOT to be missed! If you haven't seen it yet, order it now. The 'Ultimate 2 Disc Edition' contains a lot of extras which make it well worth the little extra money above the standard edition. You will watch this movie over and over again. Guaranteed! "Long live Kuzco!"
Rating: Summary: Very funny! Review: I never bothered to this see movie in the theaters, mostly because I don't think that it interested me at the time and received zero hype from the public. A friend actually got me to watch the movie even though I was relunctant do so. Let me say that I'm glad I watched it. This movie is so funny!! There are tons of little quirky subtleties (like the baby panther) and entertaining supporting characters (the squirrel is hillarious). Let me say that I don't think that this movie will be entertaining to everyone. This especially applies to those folks that believe every disney movie should have songs every three seconds and include some kind of a sappy, overcome adversity theme to it. This movie is not typical disney in that it's plot is pretty pointless... it's just generally screwy which is why I liked it so much. It reminds me of Animaniacs in a way because of this. Hercules was pretty quirky too, which is why these two Disney movies are really the only ones that I can watch over and over. Also, a word to some of the other reviewers with DVD problems: If you are one of those folks who are having trouble with your DVD player and Disney Discs (or maybe just this one), do everyone a favor and include the make and model number of your player. Just trashing Disney for making incompatible DVDs doesn't help anyone else if you don't include this information. This can let potential buyers know of a risk of the DVD not working with their player.
Rating: Summary: Go ahead, get into this "groove"!!! Review: "The Emperor's New Groove" is a fun experience for the whole family because it works on so many levels. First of all it has all the necessary ingredients for an effective fairy tale about the evils of selfishness and greed. Then add the slapstick animation, hyperactive humor, a soundtrack using a variety of styles of music from rock and Latin sounds to a more classic background music. The Tom Jones number was a gas! My wife and I watched this "Emperor" find his new groove with two teenaged boys who laughed hysterically through the whole thing. At one point they commented, "This is so stupid, it's funny!" Hey, it's lightweight fun, with a good message. Go ahead, get into the groove!
Rating: Summary: No lovestory, but very loveable Review: Personal, I was a bit sceptic at first, because of the change of story we all heared of, but 'the groove flik' is very very entertaining. You'll enjoy this movie time and time again. A little bit unusual humor for Disney standards, but that's even more fun. Very brightly colored and fast-paced sometimes very subtile and almost to quick to follow for one time viewing. Its a hilarious picture with no 'mushi Disney' sause. No lovestory, but very loveable. In a 1.66:1 aspect ratio (widesreen anamorphic) and with THX sound, it is as sharp and bright as a DVD gets. The animated menu's are even groovy and funny! The DVD Collectors edition is truly a teasure of information. The only thing is, it is presented in a childish way. That's too bad, because touring the Disney Pictures Movie Studio's is normally impossible. We see all the stages of animation and a lot of additional information. For me it is an animation I'll see and see again.
Rating: Summary: This is how DVDs should be! Review: This movie is fantastic and humourous. There is as much fun in the movie for adults as for the children. David Spade is his cynical best as the voice of Kuzco as is John Goodman's character Pacha the llama herder. As for extras available on this set I am suitably impressed. Disk 1 provides the fab movie and a DVD rom game which provides some light entertainment. Disk 2 is packed solid behind the scenes footage covering the complete development of this movie from a good idea down to the publicity surrounding the release. While there have been some complaints about the quality of the cut of this DVD, I have experienced no such problems. Studios are always improving encryption on discs to combat pirating and keep DVDs within their zones. As a result of this I am aware of some 'Zone Free' players being unable play enhanced discs (ie Gladiator). In the end really - the responsiblity comes down to the owner insuring they have a decent quality player - isn't quality the reason for buying DVDs in the first place?
Rating: Summary: Defective DVD Review: Similarly to only a few other writers, I would like to draw attention to the poor quality of this particular dvd release. I have seen several Disney dvds with problems such as sound and video skipping, poor transfer quality, and failure to run at all. This release is no exception! I've tried two different copies on different players with problems every time! If you share this disappointment, let Disney DVD know that you actually care that your movies play correctly. Maybe then they will put some time and money into the quality of their future dvd releases.
Rating: Summary: It was good Review: I live in Ecuador, so I watched this video in Spanish. So I'm sure I missed many of the jokes that are in English and cant be translated very well. But I still liked this movie, it was cute, funny, and had really cool characters. I take it from the llamas and some other things that this movie takes place in Incan South America. I've never seen a disney cartoon take place in SA before. I still think that Mulan was a better movie than this, but it's definately worth watching.
Rating: Summary: A Delightful Surprise From The House of Mouse Review: Like some of the viewers, I too initially passed on The Emperor's New Groove last winter. This was mainly due to some of the reviews (... ... ... David Elliott gave it two (out of four) stars, Michael Medved two and one half (out of four)), and lack of enthusiasm for most motion pictures overall. 2000 was a pretty lackluster year. Well, thank goodness for the invention of the videocassette! Since purchasing this hidden treasure last month, I have never had such a blast watching an animated film. The last time I laughed this much at any cartoon was Disney's Aladdin, with Robin Williams' Genie literally splitting my sides. I must say the filmakers have outdone themselves here, especially with the cast. While Groove does not have the visual lushness of Beauty and the Beast or Tarzan, the antics of David Spade (Emperor Kuzco), Eartha Kitt (Yzma), Patrick Warburton (Kronk), and John Goodman (Pacha) make this adventure zip right along. This film was clearly not made for the tinyest of tots, considering some of the dialogue (Yzma's line about cruel irony), but could nevertheless be enjoyed by all. I must say I was truly surprised by a Disney film in which the characters did not take themselves too seriously, or get bogged down in mushiness with surgary love songs. Political Correctness was definately NOT in vogue this time around-an intact family with the father around-imagine that! Although there is a moral lesson here (finding the good in people), Mark Dindal and his team manage not to hit the audience over the head with it. Overall, while I do agree that The Emperor's New Groove is not one Disney's classics-The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast belong in that category-it is a great movie and loads of fun to watch, once again with the kudos going out the actors. It is clearly evident that everyone involved with this project had a great time, and were not ashamed of it. Watch it for yourselves and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Good Film Excellent delivery service Review: My son (aged 5)really enjoyed the film and wants to watch it over and over, the transfer is excellent. The humour in the film is really aim at the adults in the audience, as children won't understand a lot of it. The extras are great for the children GREAT disk up to Disney's usual standard. Just a Quick note on Amazon's Delivery service EXCELLENT!!! I recieved the film on the day of release even though I live in the UK
