Summary: A beautiful movie with a heart and a soul.
Review: I viewed this movie with my kids, and enjoyed it even more than they did. It's surprisingly thoughtful and intelligent. It panders to no one. It is refreshing among animations in that it has "big" themes, no corny musical interludes, and no "boy meets girl" element. There is truly an artistry and delicacy about it. Although animations are rarely taken seriously, I put this movie in with the classics.

Summary: The Iron Giant has Landed
Review: Vin Diesel and Jennifer Aniston lend their voices in the first-rate animated adventure "The Iron Giant". In the dawn of the Cold War, a curious New England boy discovers a gigantic metal-eating robot (voiced by Diesel) from another world. Their special friendship is put to the test when the boy must protect his new pal from an ambitious government agent and the US military. "The Iron Giant" is an amazing animated wonder that rivals Disney's best. From director Brad Bird ("The Simpsons"), the film combines a well-written story and some memorable characters. The talented voice cast also includes Eli Marenthal, Christopher McDonald, John Mahoney and Harry Connick Jr. as artistic scrap yard owner Dean McCoppin. The animation is colorful and quite enjoyable. The animated feature is presented in both 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and standard full screen formats. The DVD contains a detailed video transfer and a well-balanced 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. Its supplemental extras include a delightful "Making of The Iron Giant" featurette and a music video. Despite a lack of supplemental extras, "The Iron Giant" earns a pleasing "B+".

Summary: An animated masterpiece
Review: My sister-in-law lent me the VHS version last Thanksgiving. Looking briefly at the front cover, I could gather little desire to "pop it in" and sit back to what I thought would be a boring story and even less interesting animation. There it sat on top of the VCR until this Thanksgiving when I figured I was way overdue in returning it. So, with time and indifference to burn, I blew the dust off the VCR and, lucky for me, it still worked. Almost immediately I was drawn in by the quality of the animation; honest to goodness animation, not over-the-top CGI. I start paying attention. As the story unfolded an amazing thing happened. I was that little boy, feeling surprise, fear, happiness, anger, contempt, sadness, respect and love. I forgot I was watching an animated film, and began living an unforgettable experience. The Iron Giant is a beautifully crafted film built around a touching story with high moral value that is guaranteed to entertain. Yet more proof that you shouldn't judge a book (or a movie) by its cover. I was so impressed, I bought the DVD, which will forever be an annual Thanksgiving Day event.

The only thing I see wrong with this is the box/case. Click on the image here to see a larger version, and you'll see that it's the horrid snap cases. Oh well, at least the movie's getting the treatment it deserves. Pick this up when it comes out.

Review: I wish more family oriented films had as much heart as this story has.
Based on Ted Hughes's book "The Iron Man," it has been turned by writer-director Brad Bird into a multilevel fable about violence, free will, and the continuity of life. It's very easy to forget that you're watching a cartoon, but the charaters are both sophisticated, and witty...and it's almost a guarantee you'll be reaching for a box of Kleenex before the end of the film.
I never thought the story of a boy and his misunderstood giant alien robot set in the '50's would have moved me in such ways...but this is the real deal. This movie will remind you how great it was to be a kid...
If you see one animated feature film before you die, this is it.

Summary: Out Of This World Gem!
Review: I never heard of this movie until I came across it on TV one day. Once I started watching it I couldn't stop. My daughter was too young at the time for the mature message but she is getting older now so I recently purchased a copy. We just watched it together and she had some questions about the guns and bombs. With that said, it does sound like a violent movie, but the message in the movie is that violence begets violence. A majority of time the "Iron Giant" is a gentle giant romping around the forest with his human pal Hogarth. His relationship with the young boy is heartwarming as well as heartbreaking. I don't know how I missed this movie when it was released, especially with the cast involved. It was as if there was no promotion for it at all. It seems to me that it could have been a box office blockbuster even if they only advertised it on gum wrappers.

Review: I would have never purchased this movie for my daughter knowing the true rating was PG. Too much gun/laser usage, violence, and destruction. Amazon lists this as a Rated G movie, but on the clamshell it shows a rating of PG.

Summary: Before Incredibles There was a Iron Giant
Review: Interesting enough Brad Bird the director/writer of Incredibles also was the director/screen play writer for Iron Giant. Additionally Brad was involved in the early days of the Simpsons.
One of the most under-rated quote "family" movies of all time. Warner Brothers made several mistakes in the advertising plans and released the movie in the middle of a blockbuster summer. Years later it finally receives the DVD treatment it deserves.

Summary: Great film, but no special edition
Review: First of all; I love this film; it's one of the best animated features of the 90's (and you can probably include some decades before that).
Beautiful story.
But I was so stupid to buy this so called special edition eventhough I own the previous release.
The comments are actually pretty dull (ok, I've worked in animation; so perhaps it's better and more interresting for "normal" people) and the extras are nothing new. The documentaries are a series of short films covering several topics. They are averagely one and a half minute each! And there are not many of them.
In addition to that there's not much else to celebrate on the DVD.
I would give the film itself ten stars, but this review is for the DVD which I give three.
If you own the old release; don't waste your money buying this. As far as I can remember, the extras on the old one covered just the same - perhaps more in essence.
On this one they just added more uninterresting stuffing.
Nonsense really.
