Rating: Summary: Truly an Overlooked Gem from 1999 Review: I wanted to see this movie at theaters when it was first released because, it got generally favorable reviews. This movie did not disappoint and is a mix of "E.T." and "I Robot". Excellent transformation sequence towards the end which would put "The Transformers" to shame. This should appeal to all ages who are young at heart because, it appeals to our forgotten childhood innocence.
Rating: Summary: Best movie of 1999 - No, honest it really is Review: Just get the thing -- Nobody went to see it because the commercials made it look like a stupid retelling of ET, but nothing could be further from the truth. This a hilarious, touching and completely origianl work of art with a wonderful message for kids about choosing the type of person you will be. Parents should be clamoring for a movie with a message about personal responsability and courage. Just do yourself a favor and get it.
Rating: Summary: One of the best films I've ever seen Review: Warner Brother's execs should be hanging their heads in shame after the pitiful marketing they provided this absolutely excellent film. The script is sharp, working on so many different levels that I can't imagine someone leaving the theater not satisfied. The animation varies from subtle to stunning and Michael Kamen's score is a perfect accompaniment to the visuals. Do yourself a favor: Look at the number of stars everyone's given this film and just BUY IT. Support this great work to make up for the stupidity of Warner Brother's marketing.
Rating: Summary: Best Movie seen this year by kids aged 3 and 34 Review: My son and I have seen this movie 6 times this summer, and we would have gone more if it had stayed at the theatres longer. This is honestly one of the best movies I have ever seen. As all of the other reviews mention, there are no gimmicks, no songs, etc.... just a great entertaining movie. This is not just a great movie for kids, it is for all ages. For those of you that have seen the movie, you'll know why my son's face lights up everytime we drive past a power station. He wants to make sure he doesn't miss seeing the Giant in case he needs some more help. At least he hasn't asked us to change his name to Hogarth.....yet!
Rating: Summary: You don't have to be a gun... Review: I have never seen an animated film that hit me like The Iron Giant. It wasn't just a cartoon. It was a movie. Over the years my Top 10 has included, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Godfather, Blue Velvet, It Happened One Night, Fort Apache, Saving Private Ryan, To Kill a Mockingbird,The Day the Earth Stood Still, and now The Iron Giant. Okay, fine, they changed the book and really only kept the bare bones of the story. Now it stands as a movie for all of us born in the fifties who lived those same fantasies. My young son loved it to. The movie provoked the discussions that a father and son need to have about subjects like death, dying, lying, hope and violence. Hogarth is right, you don't have to be a gun. There are so many great touches in the movie you can't even begin to name them. I felt like I was a kid again. Think of the movies you used to watch with your mom and dad, the stories that could captivate the entire family, and leave you all thinking, "Man, I got to see that again!" The Iron Giant is one of those films. Share it with your friends. Gush, gush, gush! Iloved it so much I even bought the toy.
Rating: Summary: A simple story that gently touches your heart and soul. Review: Without a doubt, this was the most overlooked movie of 1999. You must see this movie if you missed it in the theaters. This movie is appropriate for all ages and thankfully does not revolve around the selling of toys. Everyone who sees this movie will be touched in some way. Keep a box of tissues handy.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best movie of 1999. Review: Brad Bird has created a film that makes you feel good to be alive. This is why people tell stories, and more importantly, why people want to see and hear stories being told. Witty, charming, funny and heartwarming, The Iron Giant is a moral story in the best sense of the word. It is a story of honesty, courage and redemption. And more importantly than that, it's one heck of a fun movie. This movie speaks to you at your level--kids will love it and adults will love it for some of the same and some completely different reasons. I cannot adequately describe the joy that this movie filled me with. I am not generally an animation buff--my favorite movies are the Godfather movies. And now on that short list of great ones that I'll never forget is The Iron Giant. There is only one word that does this movie justice: Perfection.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST FILMS OF THE 90'S Review: Read the superlatives....believe the words. This movie had me choked up when I saw it last summer. I planned to buy this one within the first ten minutes in the theater. The fact that the DVD will also contain supplementary materials only heightens my anticipation of its release. SEE IT: TELL YOUR FRIENDS! Let's hope the Academy recognizes come Oscar time. As an aside, Brad Bird, the director, has just been signed to bring a live-action Curious George to the screen...EXCELLENT!!!!
Rating: Summary: EXCELENT,MARVELOUS,GIGANTIC,SUPERB...and it's good too! Review: All life forms, All movie critics who have seen it just plain Love It! Because of a simple reason---It's just plain great! You've had enough times to take you'r girl, or kids, mom, dad.. to this movie saturday but if you won't buy it now, yyyyyoouu'llll be sooooooooorrrrrryyyy!! Do you choose to be?
Rating: Summary: Excellent movie for kids and adults Review: Proof that Disney can be outdone without all the silly singing and sappiness. The Iron Giant is a great, great movie. Sadly the moviegoing public ignored it at the theater, probably because it wasn't Disney and thus wasn't any good. WRONG. This is a GREAT movie!
