Rating: Summary: i hate this stupid movie Review: i want to shoot julie andrew
Rating: Summary: Is it impossible to make films like this anymore? Review: This movie is now 35 years old. It is smart, funny, fresh and as limber as the day it was released in August of 1964. It's special effects would probably be considered primitive in our digital world, but they are used within the context of a fully-developed story happening to appealing characters and still retain a sense of wonder about them, and wit as well. Julie Andrews captures Mary's hilarious and appealing combination of starchy manner and subversive actions and Dick Van Dyke is at least as spontaneous in his humor as Robin Williams, although minus the soggy sentiment and self-absorption. And David Tomlinson and Glynis Johns are like a well-oiled vaudeville act as the parents who are too busy with banking and women's votes to notice how unmanageable their children have become (kudos to Bill Walsh and Don DaGradi for their witty jokes about the rather obstreperous nature of British Feminism during the Edwardian period). And the children, Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber, are genuinely surprising as Jane and Michael--they're real kids, not adorable, programmed moppets. The director, Robert Stevenson, had been doing wonderful things with kid actors ever since he directed Nova Pilbeam in NINE DAYS A QUEEN back in the 1930's, not to mention the lovely performances he coaxed from Peggy Ann Garner, Elizabeth Taylor, and Margaret O'Brien in the 40's film version of JANE EYRE. For once, a kid's film where you can stand the kids!
Rating: Summary: The best movie ever made PERIOD. Review: I first saw this movie when I was aboutFive years old and you could not pry me away from the t.v. cause of mary poppins, that movie is the very best of all time.every character played their role perfectly and to me no actress or movie will ever top Julie Andrews in mary poppins.
Rating: Summary: boring and annoying Review: It's always nice to look at Andrews, but here she doesn't have much personality, she's more like one of those colorful loud dolls in Disneyland who wave and enthusiastically sing "It's a Small World." Van Dyke's grimmacing is annoying. This film was so boring that I could never watch much of it.
Rating: Summary: Practically Perfect Movie!!!!!! Review: Mr. and Mrs. Banks could be at their wit's end with their two children Michael and Jane, whose mischief causes all nannies that they have to leave the Banks home forever. Then one day comes Mary Poppins. She's not an ordinary nanny, and she takes Michael and Jane to meet the chimmneysweep Bert, his Uncle Albert, and other characters. The songs are true masterpieces, and Julie Andrews as Mary is wonderful. If you like this movie you will be sure to like "The Sound of Music", starring Julie Andrews. It's a must-rent for you and the entire family!
Rating: Summary: Best family film ever made Review: I truly believe that Mary Poppins is absolutely the best family film ever made. Although it is somewhat long, possibly pushing children's attention span to their limits, it is free of violence, foul language, and sexual inuendo. The entire premise of the movie is getting a very strict banker to realize that life CAN be fun and not just working one's life away to gain material posessions. One of the very first movies I ever saw, when it was originally released in 1964, and still my favorite. I recommend this film to anyone with children.
Rating: Summary: JULIE ANDREWS`FIRST MIRACLE FILM Review: MARY POPPINS(1964) is (with MGM`s The Wizard Of Oz) the best children`s film ever. And what a joy that it doesn`t seem to date; it`s so much fun to show our childhood favorite to our children and see that THEY enjoy it as well. It`s a Disney product and of course Disney has no peer.
Rating: Summary: What a fantasy to share with my little girl! Review: I fell in love all over again with Mary, Burt, the Constable, Admiral Boom and Uncle Albert. My three-year old insists on watching it at least once a day, and I watch it with her--it never wears thin. Like a good cult film, I see or catch something new every time I rewatch it.
Rating: Summary: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Review: I grew up watching this movie and I still enjoy it. It's one of those rare gems that pleases both kids and adults. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to take a flight of fancy.
Rating: Summary: Practically perfect in every way Review: Everyone has seen Mary Poppins. Let's cut the mustard and talk about the DVD.Sound 3/5 - Using ProLogic receiver, the songs are blatantly pasted in. The difference in the sound quality during the transition from dialogue to song is horrible. On the bright side, the songs sound great, and the dialogue sound isn't that bad considering that the movie is 25 years old. Picture Quality 4.5/5 -Excellent. Extra Features 0/5 -There are none, so don't bother looking.
