Rating: Summary: Shake your groove thing. Review: Disney is well-known for their high-scale musical cartoons. Pop ballads from or inspired by their muscial cartoons usually find themselves at the top of the charts. THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE was supposed to be a musical like that, one with a strong moral message, lots of syrupy love songs, and breathtaking animation. However, something happened along the way. The movie took a completely different turn (why do you think the film was 1st released at the end of the year instead of the summer?) and ended up being the least serious of all Disney full length animated features. Thank goodness! It's about time the power-mouse took a break, had some fun ... and made a movie that adults will probably enjoy more than children. The closest Disney ... THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE resembles is ALADDIN. However, the humor in this film is more akin to the Muppets, the Simpsons, and early Warner Brothers cartoons. David Spade is perfect as the voice of Emperor Kuzco, John Goodman is delightful as the peasant Pacha who saves Kuzco many times, and Patrick Warburton steals the movie as the voice of Kronk. The basic outline of the story is that Kuzco is a selfish Emperor who wants to destroy Pacha's village so he can build a summer home. He fires his advisor Yzma (Eartha Kitt) because he doesn't trust her and in retaliation she plans to kill him. However, Kronk accidently mistakes a llama transformation potion for poison and Kuzco turns into one of the hairly beasts instead. Yzma still wants Kuzco dead, but Kronk has a conscience and can't complete the task. Eventually Kuzco ends up in Pacha's wagon and that's all your going to get; my groove just changed.
Rating: Summary: Fun! Fun! Fun! Review: This was a hilarious and fun movie that both young and old will enjoy. There is hardly a scene where there isn't something comical happening. This is a movie that will appeal to everyone, even if they hate Disney movies. The voices, characters and animation are just fantastic. The plot is unique and the music is great. I recommend you buy this one. You'll want to watch it over and over.
Rating: Summary: LET'S GET SOMETHING STRAIGHT WITH ALL THE OTHER REVIEWS.... Review: For some unknown reason, people love giving reviews based on the movie in the theatre's and not the DVD. I give this move 3 stars because the dvd is so subpar. The movie is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but the video transfer is absolutely (or damn close anyways) horrible. Pixalation, shoddy picture shots..Disney must have no idea how to make dvd's or something. The extras disk was pretty interesting, but I'm not exactly sure it adds up to $10 extra. It probably goes $5 for the case, $5 for the extra dvd. Overall, I'll go ahead and reccommend the one dvd set but if you have money to waste, go for it. Even then, the one dvd set should be $17. Disney needs a slap on the hand for butchering the video of this great film.
Rating: Summary: What Disney should be focusing on... Review: This movie is hilarious. It has one of the greatest scripts I've read from a Disney movie in a long time, if not ever. David Spade and John Goodman are great together. Their comic timing is great and adds to the comic feel of the movie. Patrick Warburton is hilarious as always and is the best somewhat evil, dim-witted sidekick. The only flaw in this movie is the animation. Disney has really let themselves go since the computers have arrived. I think they should have a screening of Snow White for all the animators and tell them this is what our films should look like, so let's try to hit this high water mark again.
Rating: Summary: This Emperor's Groove Rocks!!! Review: Based upon the glowing reviews I read at Amazon, I purchased this DVD sight unseen. After viewing this movie several times with my 3-year old daughter (she calls this, the "Llama" movie), my family loves this movie. Another Disney classic! It just puzzles me why Disney never really supported this movie. By all means, go out and buy the "Ultimate Groove" DVD.
Rating: Summary: A great time is had by all! Review: Disney scores another hit with this story of friendship. John Goodman, Eartha Kitt and David Spade provide fabulous voice-overs for this hysterical tale of two unlikely compatriots becoming excellent friends. The movie teaches a moral lesson in selfishness. Tom Jones provides a fabulous main theme song. Not just for kids, as the humor reaches out to adults on many levels. Five fun stars!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A Laugh Riot Review: The title says it all. A typically heartwarming Disney story that was just hilarious. Safe for people of all ages, and certain to make you laugh if you watch it. After reading the editorial, it would have been nice if the basic movie had a little more in the way of bonus features, but it's WAY worth the money. If you don't have this one in your collection, what are you waiting for??????? TJG
Rating: Summary: I can't see Kids getting into this Groove. Review: "The Emperors New Groove" is Almost as Witty and Fun as "Toy Story" and "A Bugs Life", but it doesn't come Close to matching them in the Animation Department. It more closely resembles An 8 minute Warner Bros cartoon Stretched to Feature Length. David Spade's Dead-pan Bill Murray-ish Comedy Stylings were Spot on in Voicing Kuzco, the Groove less Emperor tuned Helpless Llama. John Goodman also fits his role well, playing Pacha, Kuzco's Loveable, Reluctant Companion... I can picture the two actors playing the same roles in a Live-Action version. (that would be Interesting to see) But from the Get-go it's Patrick Warburton (David Putty from "Seinfeld") as Kronk, the Loveable, Reluctant Henchman, who Steals the Show. His Voicing is Never short of Hysterical, not One of his lines failed to have me laughing. (except the ones I missed as I was to busy Holding my Sides) "The Emperor's New Groove" gets 4 out of 5 stars as its Animation is Far from Great, it sometimes reached levels of Annoying. It represents a Lack of Faith in the Material and it cuts down the enjoyment level for Kids, and Adults. I cannot see how kids will take to this Disney effort too well, apart from the shoddy animation, the humour is very, Very Satirical. If you thought the two "Toy Story" films and "A Bugs Life" had Clever Adult Humour, then Wait till you See This. When I saw it at the Theatres, the kids were Running Wild, they Lost Interest after 10 Minutes. If only Pixar had animated it, I believe it would be one of Disney's Best Films Ever, but it is Still Well worth seeing, Especially for Adults.
Rating: Summary: Adults will love it too!! Review: My wife and I bought this DVD for our 3 year old son. He was glued to the TV for the entire movie. Later that evening my wife and I watched it. Needless to say, we were laughing throughout the entire movie! David Spade as the Emperor is hilarious!! The Emperor's New Groove is great family entertainment- very, very, funny!!
Rating: Summary: If Disney had hired Chuck Jones... Review: This is the most subversive and hilarious movie Disney has ever made. It mocks conventions and turns formula on its ear, and at the same time provides a non-stop barrage of slapstick humor. Kronck IS the funniest character to ever appear in a Disney flick, and the last twenty minutes of this movie make me laugh as hard as anything on film ever has (including, say, Gene Hackman's scene in Young Frankenstein). The style is Disney-- you know immediately that this is from the same studio that produced Alladin-- and yet there is an attitude much more like the classic Warner Brothers than the House de Mouse. Never mind that this doesn't pretend to great emotional depth; this is a hilarious film that can be enjoyed by any age. And that's no small feat. Cheesy emotional depth, mediocre music, stilted drama-- all of those failed attempts can still be rewarding. But a failed comedy is just, well, dumb instead of funny. This flick is repeatedly branded as lightweight and B or C list, but doggone it, it's hard to make a really funny movie, and this delivers the goods.
