Summary: KROM!! What a great movie?
Review: One of my favorite movies of all time.. After all with Arnold (Conan) as a sword-wielding barbarian how could you go wrong? The basic plot of the movie is Conans revenge.. Thulsa Doom killed Conans family and then he was sold in to slavery.. After growing to adult hood he is sold once again to become a Barbarian ring fighter.. Soon he is trained to fight by the greatest swordmasters and taught to read and write.. He eventually is set free by his master and seeks his revenge.. I don't recommend Conan to younger viewer due to violence and gore, as well as some seens of nudity.. Over all Conan is a very great movie and well worth buying.. If you like Conan the Barbarian check out the sequel Conan the Destroyer..

Review: Conan the Barbarian is great! It's kind of like Braveheart, but it has Arnold with a much worse accent than Mel Gibson. Check out this DVD today! The movie is good! CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1982) Rated: R (Strong Graphic Violence and Some Nudity). 4 stars out of 5.

Summary: Essential For The John Milius Fan
Review: OK, OK, Arnold is pretty good in this movie. No doubt about it, this was his first notable film and one for which he was perfectly cast.But the real greatness of Conan comes from the pen and genius of writer/director John Milius. After pushing a similar theme of Jungian archetypes, primitive ritual, and Frasierian "killing of the king" storylines for (believe it or not) Apocalypse Now, Milius found a much more appropriate vehicle in Conan. It's just an outstanding demonstration of Milius' creative impulse. Other great Milius-influenced films include: Clear and Present Danger, Farewell to the King, Extreme Prejudice, Red Dawn, 1941, Apocalypse Now, Big Wednesday, The Wind and the Lion, Jaws, Magnum Force, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, Jeremiah Johnson, and Dirty Harry. Get 'em all, if you haven't already.

Summary: Great DVD With Very Good Commentary Track
Review: Arnold Schwarzengger fans will want to have this special collector's edition DVD in their home library. This disc features an extended version of the 1982 fantasy/adventure favorite with improved video and sound. Also included is an excellent documentary titled "Conan Unchained". Other extras include a trailer, deleted scenes, special effects (which are surprisingly effective) as well as many production drawings and photos. The best feature for my money is the commentary of Arnold and director John Milius, which sounds like two old friends getting together to watch a film they haven't seen in awhile. Arnold starts things off with a very politically incorrect Richard Simmons joke, which sets a light tone for the entire commentary. In spite of this underlying humor, the old friends manage to remember many fascinating anecdotes and offer a much-appreciated insiders view of the film. There is no doubt that fans of Arnold will want to own this well-done disc. The movie stands the test of time as one of the best examples of the fantasy/adventure/action genre and will be remembered as the film that catapulted Arnold Schwarzengger to superstardom.

Summary: Good rendition of Conan, the perfect role for Arnold.
Review: This must be Arnolds best film ever, IMHO. It's a good solid fantasy film with some really good characters. This is where it excels over the second conan movie, since nr. 2 had really uninspiring characters compared to the first. Anyways, if you're a Arnold fan or not, this film is worthy of purchase. If you're a fan of Conan, or fantasy in general, this is a must.

Summary: Conan / Robert Howard / Schwarzenegger
Review: Produced early in Schwarzenegger career. That is good because he seemed to have taken the part seriously and didn't adlib with his cutesy smirks and remarks. It is unfortunate because he is a better actor now (if he decides to take a part seriously.) The production was excellent. Direction, good. Could not find mention of author anywhere. Fairly well based on Howard stories. I would like to see more of Conan (Howard) stories/movies

Review: The Sound in this movie is awful. No one deserves to make money becauses this title has been ported to DVD. I'll give the picture quality a three, it's acceptable. There was no effort in enhancing the sound.The box says dolby digital. The only thing digital about the sound is that it has been digitized for this DVD.

Summary: The Hollywood 'Conan.'
Review: I have to agree with the reviewers who disliked this movie. I am a Conan fan - but not a movie 'Conan' fan. One reviewer brought up an interesting point - the people who are bringing 'Lord of the Rings' to the big screen are following Tolkien's trilogy as much as possible. Can you imagine if they didn't? Can you imagine if they took Tolkien's characters, his story, then reinvented it on film? Why, that would be inconceivable! Imagine the outrage of the hundreds of thousands of Tolkien fans! With that in mind, I can't but wonder why John Milius decided to stray away from Robert E. Howard's creation and stories. Who the hell does he think he is? The folks who are doing 'Lord of the Rings' are paying homage to Tolkien. Would that Milius and company could have done the same with Howard, but they didn't. Milius put Howard's character on film because of Conan's popularity, then the director received accolades for the movie. This praise, it seems, comes mainly from those poor souls whose only familiarity with Conan stem from the stupid comic books. In short, the movie 'Conan the Barbarian' is no good. Making a movie about a character - without following the original stories, by the original author - is like reprinting the great works of Rembrandt or Van Gogh. If you stray from the originals, adding your own ideas of artistry and creativity, no good can become of those prints.

Summary: Conan? I think not.
Review: I have to agree with the paucity of reviewers who thought the film, 'Conan the Barbarian,' a travesty done to the character created by Robert. E. Howard. The very few who deemed this movie a blasphemy - GOOD FOR YOU. You are the true Conan fans. I will, doubtless, receive negative responses to this, my review of the Collector's Edition of 'Conan,' but I care not. The real Conan fans - few that there are - will applaud me. John Milius and Oliver Stone wrote the screenplay, and when they did, they decided to do it their own way. The results are evident. Why they did not use Howard's own words as the screenplay defies the imagination. John Milius knows nothing about Howard, let alone the character of Conan. In fact, Ron Cobb - the production designer for the film - was quoted as saying, "Our strength in making this film is that we don't know anything about Conan." There is a movie based on Tolkien's, 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy coming out soon. From what I gather, the director of the film is following the books almost verbatim - the way it should be done. This director knows what he's about; he knows the material, loves Tolkien, and the film will be done well, unlike the 'Conan' movie mockeries. I chuckled with loud mirth when I viewed the commentaries betwixt Schwarzenegger and Milius. Arnold doesn't seem to recall much, and I lost count how many times he said, "Exahhhctly." In the end, 'Conan the Barbarian' is one simple movie. It might have been better if they didn't call it, 'Conan.' One day, one day, mind you, someone is going to make a film called, 'Robert E. Howard's, Conan.' When it happens, all the non-reading imbeciles of the world will experience the real Conan of Cimmeria. One final nail-driving mockery: On the DVD brochure, some boneheads wrote a small paragraph about Howard. I noticed they couldn't even get the year REH died correct; it was written 1906-1935. Howard died in 1936. Well, that tells the whole story doesn't it. Fools.

Summary: It's not in stereo!!!!
Review: I can't believe this classic movie, with pretty good features, is not in stereo! I know people (including myself), that have the soundtrack to this movie, specifically because of the powerful music. Not to hear it in stereo, with the many great moments of warriors entering battle, is like someone taking candy from a baby. I did enjoy listening to Arnold and John Millius commentating, but how could I overlook the "mono" sound?
