Summary: An epic, mysterious, fantasy created by Jim Henson
Review: Most people would associate Jim Henson with the Muppets. However, it is arguable that The Dark Crystal is his best work. It tells the story of a young Gelfing, named Jen, who must find a lost shard from a powerful crystal broken long ago. During his quest, he must avoid the wicked Skeksis, and ultimately face them. The movie is a bit darker than usual Henson fare, very different from the Muppets, but similar in a few respects to Henson's other fantasy film, Labyrinth. Dark Crystal is a treat for fantasy fans, it's set in another time, in a world filled with strange creatures, with a finely woven tale of good and evil. It remains a breakthrough movie in the sense it was live action but refrained from using anything other than puppets as characters. This creates a completely new world for viewers to immerse themselves in, without the presence of humans to interfere with the setting or story. It's a complete fantasy. Check this movie out, Tolkein and Henson fans alike will be delighted. It is a tale for the young and, provided the old are willing to let their imagination enjoy this classic movie.

Review: I love this movie and have grown up with it almost my entire life. Tonight when I sat down to watch it, the video machine chewed my video and I don't think that I can live without it.......So please re-release it for the sake of humanity!! To all you poor souls who have never seen the movie, you should, it's that simple!

Summary: Pure Fantasy
Review: The Dark Crystal is simply fantasy at it's best. The storyline is enthralling, the characters are highly imaginative and the villains are almost creepy. The ending will totally blow your mind away. All-too rarely do Hollywood's producers surprise an audience with an ending like this. I loved it as a child, and I love it even more as a budding writer. If you like fantasy or even a just plain great story, check this movie out!

Summary: The best fantasy film of all time!
Review: In my opinion, The Dark Crystal surpasses all other fantasy movies, even such established greats as Star Wars and ET, for one simple reason - pure and unadulterated creativity. Jim Henson's genius explodes into this fantastical film, with characters of the like that are not seen in any other film. Not once does a human appear on the screen - everything is either animatronic or simply a hand puppet. A superb film for anyone who loves fantasy films, the Muppets, or just wants to see a mind-blowing film.

Summary: A dream of a world that could have been, of a world ...
Review: ... so outside and separate from this world. Imagine a planet, a place far, far away. Imagine a place vibrant with life; a place with beings who organise themselves into a civilisation. A place where Good and Evil comes to be. The realm of The Dark Crystal is just such a place.

Dark Crystal has so little reminiscent of our world, that you might feel you've been stowed away into a kind of "Absolute Elsewhere".

The maker seems to have crafted this gorgeous vision to enchant both children and adults. The young may find fun and laughter in the various characters; the mature may find a mystic and mesmeric message.

I hope the maker can produce more like the Dark Crystal. And perhaps Dark Crystal needs to be re-done using current video production methods. The original has an unlovely green hue, like all early video photography.

Summary: Breathtaking animatronics set the mood for an amazing tale
Review: First seeing this when I was about 6 years old, I was enthralled in the world of The Dark Crystal. I was fascinated in the richness of the world and the draw of the storyline. It became my fascination, and I was actually Kira for Halloween that year. :) It is a movie worth seeing, and one to be enjoyed no matter what the age group. Excellent! Recommended ages: 6 and up END
