Rating: Summary: The best sequel yet, but nowhere near a good film Review: Some fans will strike me for this, others will clap me on the shoulder, but in my opinion, HIGHLANDER III: THE SORCERER is the only trustworthy, even average sequel to HIGHLANDER. Let's face it - HIGHLANDER II can't even be considered a sequel, while HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME was a complete waste of potential.Released in the U.S. as HIGHLANDER: THE FINAL DIMENSION, H3 has immortal Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert, back and better than ever) realizing that he didn't win The Prize, and that some immortals still remain: one of whom is evil sorcerer Kane (Mario Van Peebles). After Kane is freed from a 400-year slumber, he journeys to New York City seeking the Highlander. There MacLeod must do battle again. The game may have changed, but the rule remains the same: in the end, there can be only one. First of all, let me say that while it's nowhere near a good movie, HIGHLANDER III is very entertaining and actually quite fun to watch. It's almost even a remake of the first film. Everything we want to know is explained (including why we have HIGHLANDER sequels!), and ... *sigh* Deborah Unger is included ... Surprisingly, the film was also the only HIGHLANDER movie to get a PG-13! (The director's cut, however, is back to an R for a couple of sex scenes) HIGHLANDER III also bears the most resemblance to HIGHLANDER: THE SERIES, which was, at the time, being filmed. It also features Loreena McKennit's "Bonny Portmore", one of the most beautiful songs ever written, which was featured in H:TS and later in HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME. For every 1 good review of this film there are 10 bad ones. I think you'll just have to rent it yourself (Director's Cut, only) and see what you think. I thought it was the only reliable HIGHLANDER sequel yet. The rule still remains: there can be only one. And so far, it applies to the sequels as well.
Rating: Summary: Great movie, but there still should not have been a sequel Review: I basically see the Highlander series like this: HL1 was a great classic. HL2 was just hope to cash in on the first ones following. HL3 was an attempt to fix the travisty of the HL2. There is no argument in my mind that HL3 is a much better movie than HL2. The acting is better (no fake old man Conner voice). They ignored the whole alien planet (or time traveling from Earth's past depending on what version you have). In all way's it surpassed the second movie. As a movie in itself, it's still a great movie. The acting is as good as HL1, the ending swordfight is the best I've seen in any of the movies including the original, even the plot is rather solid. Granted it has it's problems (Kain is overly Kurganish and the whole lunitic ward scene made me cringe). Every movie does have problems however. But over all It is a pretty solid movie. However, as a sequel, I'm still of the opinion that Highlander should never have had a sequel. The first one showed the Gathering. Conner won and got the prize. End story. It was wrong to go past that. But in itself, Highlander 3 is a great movie and very enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Not THAT bad! Review: While this is certainly not the best of the movies, it's not THAT bad. At least they didn't hack this one apart and screw up the storyline like they did with that awful space garbage. Any Highlander selection is worth watching again and again, even if "There Can Be Only One..."
Rating: Summary: Come on... Review: ...Give this movie a break. Don't be so hard, give it a chance. I thought it was pretty cool and it kept me interested. The great Scottish scenery and luvly music and of course Deborah Unger make a great view. It's not as bad as anyone says. Make your own mind up before reading other peoples reviews and you'll have a more accurate opinion. The story takes you to many different places, from ancient Japan, to New York and the Isle of Skye. It's great entertainment and Peebles really is hammier than Porky the pig but is there any other way his role have been played? And I really felt more for Connor McLeod this time round than I had done before. He's a great hero. Andy Morahan pumps up this sequel with some cool MTV-style visuals and cinematography. The colors and lighting maximise the impact of several scenes and some carefully selected tunes make you feel a lot more in this instalment than the other 3. Sure it's silly but it hardly considers itself as art. It's no more than big, dumb fun. Take this into consideration and I reckon you'll like it. The DVD has no other features other than a trailer (which isn't the better European one), is in Dolby 2.0 surround and is letterboxed at 2.35:1
Rating: Summary: Actually not a sequel Review: The first problem is that the first highlander could not have sequels. All you who have seen the first one know this. I dont say that the first one is better, but it is. You do get to see some flashbacks from the first one in the beginning, but thats just to show us that this one is supposed to be a sequel. Not that it is, as i said. All the other immortals were dead, but now suddely macleod finds more of them...how? no explanation. How about the movie as it is..... Well the evil one is played by Mario Van Peebles, which does a good job, and the good guy as alaways, Christopher Lambert, who is also good. The fight scenes should be more brutal and much faster. why do they draw out everything? The swordplay scenes should be short, fast and well choregraphed instead of being outdrawn and quite boring. But thats just my opinion. The main highlight is that the sex scene is the best of all the higlander movies. Rent it before you buy it!
Rating: Summary: Bad film, but a must have for fans.... Review: If you are not a fan, STAY AWAY! This feels more like "The Scorpion King" than Highlander....YUCK! But its on my shelf of DVD's, 'cause I am a fan!
Rating: Summary: Not so High, lander... Review: I remember seeing the trailer for this film, absolutely certain that it couldn't be much worse than the second sequel. Isn't it just like Hollywood to surprise at will? Not only was it worse than "The Quickening", it insulted most die-hard fans by the blatant re-scripting of the first film, and the uninspired casting of Mario Van Peeples as the main villain. There's a difference between over-the-top and conducting a seminar on hammy acting, and his performance fits the latter in this case. The high points, if any, are the ... uh... naughty scenes involving the incredibly beautiful Deboragh Kara Unger, but the rest of the film is a bore. You'd do better to skip this and check out "Highlander:Endgame" if you're in need of a Highlander fix.
Rating: Summary: To cheesey to be taken seriously Review: At the end of Hihglander 1 Connor slays the man who he has hunted him for years. After that he thought he gained his mortality but sadly that was not the case. Once again a set of immortals from his past (none of that alternate time or planet crap either) return after an archeolgy dig and prepare to hunt him down. However this immortal knows the art of illusion and can make himself look like anyone. Once again Lambert takes up the sword (this time to also help save his arab adoptive child) and slay the bad guy. This one is really cheesey. However it is effective. There are flaws however in the plot. 1: Once again the villian is to much like the one in the first film. At this point it seems that immortal villians are deranged psychopaths. 2: It makes it seem like he was mortal and then immortal (lambert) 3: The art of illusion technique was corney. However it makes up for the fact that it does not go right out and say after wards that Lambert is mortal after the movie (thus it opens up the TV series and Endgame) so it makes the series actually continue. However this one is for fans and unfortunatly not for any one else. However it was a nice try.
Rating: Summary: Sad rewrite of the first film... Review: This movie was a disapointment. It is almost a complete rehash of the first film and Mario Van Peebles sounds and acts exactly like Clancy Brown! Even his scenes are so reminicent of the first film it made us groan when watching it in the theater. It had some interesting concepts, I think they would have been better served to have this a "Prequel" to the first film instead of a sequel. And they should have made a stronger attempt and crafting a different villian instead of trying to capitalize on the excellent character of the Kurgan! See the first film, watch the TV series(an alternate timeline where Conner and the Kurgan's fight was not The Gathering) Both are much better than either of these pitiful sequels. Even the Highlander TV series movie was better, it had some weak spots but it was far more interesting than this film!
Rating: Summary: You got to read the history of the highlander ! Review: This is again a great movie in the great highlander tradition. its got an excellent storyline if only Rochelle had read it. I think Rochelle has forgotten that this highlander movies are like Algebra. Its cumulative. you got to read and stay up with whats going on. I found it to be informative and useful. This movie is great for those that have forgotten how the highlander became an immortal. It bring the series to you. you get a feeling for a wanting to see all the highlander movies all over again. Deborah Unger acting was serious, discerning and caring in this thrilling episode of Highlander. Her acting method was profound in her approach to her character showing great intelligence, fortitude, perserverance, as the beautiful woman she is portraiting. From her eyes I can tell that alot of that is really herself.
