Summary: Unique
Review: I never read the Harry Potter series, so I didn't know what to expect when I began watching the movie. It was great and a highly imaginative story. The graphics were great and I definately enjoyed navigating through the DVD's special features! I would definately recommend this movie for children and for adults as well. Definately not a disappointing movie.

Review: HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE
2-DISC SET - FULL SCREEN EDITION

THE MOVIE: The top-grossing movie of 2001, and without a doubt, one of the top movies overall. What a fantastic experience this was! With perfect casting (all the actors are right on the money), a terrific and involving story-line that is faithful to the book and engaging direction (Chris Columbus brilliantly mixes old tricks to make a really fashionable film) where could HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE go wrong? Well, maybe there are a couple of barely noticeable faults here and there, but nothing to stop this from being a complete 5-star fantasy.

THE SPECIAL FEATURES: Oh dear me. What an awful DVD. I would have to go as far as saying even the video is better than getting this. I think this DVD is intended for kids, which is really silly. Kids should buy the PlayStation game; the DVD special features should be for everybody! We get never-seen-before footage and a theatrical trailer but I couldn't figure out how to see them because we've got a bloody "game" type thing that is pretty much the same as the PlayStation game, blocking us from seeing all the things we want to see. I was so annoyed by this. Adults and adolescents who were expecting an in-depth analysis of this terrific film instead get a kiddie game that analyses "how to get into diagon alley" and what the sorting hat sorts! Oh, yipee. Oh, joy! I would even go as far as saying kids would probably find this [bad] DVD decent entertainment.
Note: DVD-Rom not previewed.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: I was never a Harry Potter fan and I never understood the craze but Ive always been one to give things the benefit of the doubt so I rented this movie...and all I could say was WOW! Two days later I bought it on VHS and have since watched it over five times. The cast was convincing, the story kept you intrested all the way until the end, the costumes and settings where incredible. Makes one wish Hogwarts really did exist. I havent read the books yet but I know Ill eventually get to reading them. Its a fantastic movie for all ages, Im 20 years old and Ill probably watch it a dozen times more. Cant wait until the next Harry Potter movie is released because this time I wont wait for it to come out on video, Ill be the first in line at the movies...besides who can resist that adorable british accent :)

Summary: The Newest Halloween Classic!
Review: If you've ever seen and loved the classic Halloween special "The Worst Witch," starring a young miss Fairuza Balk, Harry Potter should strike a familiar chord with you. Though I have yet to read the Harry Potter books, it's my love for fantasies like "The Wizard of Oz" and Halloween specials like "The Worst Witch" that drew me to this film, and I'm so glad! Harry Potter is the fantastic and fun-filled story of a young boy whose miserable life as an orphan living with cruel relatives is suddenly changed when he finds out he is destined to be the greatest Wizard that ever was! Living in a crawl space under his Aunt and Uncle's staircase in 20th century London, Harry has no idea that his parents were a famous Wizard and Witch, murdered by an evil Wizard when he was just a baby. But one day a mysterious letter comes for Harry, informing him that he is soon to be a student at Hogwart's School of Magic. His aunt and uncle do their best to keep him away, but goodness wins out when the towering, bearded, kindhearted and commanding Hagrid comes to the Human world to save the boy from his coldhearted keepers. Suddenly, Harry finds himself being introduced to a whole new world of magic! Hagrid takes the boy to Diagon Alley, a magical marketplace, to purchase a wand and other school supplies, then on to the train station, to board the Express to Hogwart's School. On the way to his new life, Harry meets up with his two soon-to-be best friends, the friendly and true, if a bit awkward, Ron Weasley, and the cute and clever bookworm Hermione Granger (who steals the movie, thanks to the adorable Emma Watson's performance).
From that first view of Diagon Alley onward, Harry takes in one jaw-dropping experience after another. But the greatest sights come when Harry gets off the train and enters the world of Hogwart's School of magic. Boats must be taken to reach the school grounds, and the view is stunning. The school itself is a sight to behold, right out of a fairytale. Within, we find several other children waiting to be sorted into their teams and dorms, from the sneaky Slitherins to the noble Gryffindors. Luckily, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are grouped together on the Gryffindor team. The students meet the teachers, formalities are taken care of, a feast fit for kings is served up, and their new lives begin. From here on out it is one adventure after another, as Harry, Ron, and Hermione battle a Mountain Troll, investigate the evil Voldemort, play a stunning broomstick ballgame called Quidditch, and learn about honor, friendship, bravery, and magic, not to mention the secret of the mysterious Sorcerer's Stone.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is not to be missed. It's good, clean, family fun, with great characters and lots and lots of magic. Some scenes may be a bit frightening for small children, and if you have a hang-up about movies about kids going to witchcraft schools, well, I suggest you just have a talk with your kids about fantasy versus reality, because that's what this is, a fantasy. And what a fantasy! The DVD is wonderful, but I don't claim to have been as blown away by the extras disc as others have. It was okay, but for the most part it seems to have been made for little kids. But the movie is great for any age! If you love fantasies like The Wizard of Oz, Return To Oz, The Worst Witch, The Black Cauldron, Lord of the Rings, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and The Sword In the Stone, you're gonna love this!

Summary: A Great Movie, and a DVD to match its standards!
Review: This movie was great, and followed the book very well. The only thing I have to say about it is that it was a little long, but other than that, it was absolutely perfect!
The activities on the DVD are extremely fun. You can "explore" Hogwarts in the second CD! Being an very big Harry Potter fan, this was definetly a plus.
The DVD of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is terrific. I strongly recommend it to anyone who liked the movie.

Summary: More like 3 1/2
Review: Ok Im a huge fan of the harry potter series. Altough My ultimate series is lord of the rings, harry potter was more laid back and funnier.

First off, if you've read the book, this movie will be a let down. Daniel Ratcliff's performance was uninspiring and he really didn't put his heart into it. Not that im trashing him, but compared to watson and grint his acting was horrible. I later found out he was an expierenced actor and the other two were new comers. One thing that probably had to do with this was the fact that Ratcliff was actually asked to audition while the superiors were simply there on thier love of the book and their passion for making a name for themselves.

The visuals were very nice. The movie was shot at cathedrals and the like, so the backdrops were breath taking. The costumes were good too.

Another pet peeve I had was the many inconsistanties(did i spell that right?) with the book. One of um, were Hermoine was showing Harry the tropie of his father, it said that james was a seeker. Hullo he was a chaser! And whats with only one quidditch match! There are more but i don't want to get into them (Midnight duel was another inconsistantie) I realize they couldn't do the whole book, but all that advertiesing was...wrong.

One more, I had to explain half of the movie to my parents cuz of the rearanged scenes and cut outs.

The thing that gives this movie its 3 1/2 stars was the acting by Watson and Grint and Coltrain. They each portraid their characters perfectly and really felt out thier characters. The backdrops, costumes, and the basic story still gave this movie enough grounds with me to get a descent score. I will still get all of the other movies in the series cuz i do feel that Columbus will learn from his mistakes and I want to see grint and watson with expierence.

Summary: A Magical Treat!
Review: I think this video will be viewed in our home about as many times as is humanly possible. Every member of our family is a rabid Harry Potter fan. I have read comments that the movie's faithfulness to the book is alternately a strength and a weakness of the production. I believe it is a strength. There is, however, one small error in the film. When Hagrid blows into the island hut where the Dursleys are hiding out, he mistakes Dudley for Harry. This NEVER would happen! Aside from this small screenwriting blunder, the movie is perfect. It makes me wish I could go to Hogwarts! We are anxiously awaiting the fifth book and the second movie.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not bad, but nowhere near as good as The Lord of the Rings.
Review: All I can say about this film is that I have never read any of the Harry Potter books, and unforunately after seeing his first movie, I don't intend on buying any of his books either. Maybe it's a generational thing, with adults prefering The Lord of the Rings and teenagers of today prefering to read Harry Potter, but, I prefer the grand excitement of The Lord of the Rings over this long and boring film. The only somewhat exciting part of the film was the soccor game on broomsticks, other than that, it's really slow and drawn out. Hopefully, the other movies will be better than this one was!

Summary: Good
Review: the actual movie is good but to play the games you have to go to diagon alley and enter the answer to a puzzle sometimes it freezes when you aretrying to crack the code so do not buy this for the games because THE GAMES STINK!

Summary: Magical and enchanting just like the books!
Review: "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is the first installment to the Harry Potter film series, based on the wonderful novels by J.K. Rowling. In "Sorcerer's Stone", we get introduced to Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), a young British boy of eleven who lives with his mean Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and spoiled cousin Dudley. The Dursleys try to be a perfectly normal family--they despise everything that seems out of the ordinary--but they also have a secret which Harry will soon learn. Harry is actually a wizard! He's just been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and this is where the adventure begins. Harry learns the truth about his past from the friendly Hogwarts Games Keeper named Hagrid, and during his first year at the magical school, Harry makes friends, arch rivals, and even mortal enemies as he starts his training in the magical arts.

For anyone who loves the books, you must see this film. The acting is outstanding by the entire cast...most of the actors fit right into their roles. The special effects are superb and engaging. The storyline follows the first book pretty well, though they had to take out some of the book. The film is just about how I imagined it would be as I read the book. Daniel Radcliffe is the perfect Harry Potter! The DVD is OK with seven deleted scenes, a self-guided tour of Hogwarts, interviews with the filmmakers, behind-the-scenes look at the making of "Sorcerer's Stone", DVD-ROM extras, and more. The bad thing about the DVD extras is that, to get to the deleted scenes, you have to play a game every time and it gets a little annoying after a while. All in all, amazing film and I can't wait for the next one.

I highly recommend "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone".

Score:
100/100
A+
