Summary: AN AWESOME MOVIE!
Review: I saw a cut version of this when I was 9 I liked it so I bought it when I was older and I think that the music was great, there aren't any cheesy special effects, the story line was action packed, they could of cut a bit of the graphic violence and that overall this movie was COOL!

(warning: I you faint at the sight of blood than this movie is not for you!)

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Smoke. Buy It. Smoke when you get it, then watch it.
Review: If you want my opinion on whether or not dvd should be bought. Yes. The movie rules. One of the classic movies that should be in any mans collection.

Summary: If you like Arnold and lots of sword fights. . .
Review: This is the 'classic' Arnold (grunts and muscles). The music for the movie is very good, and it makes an attempt at being serious. Pretty entertaining if you're in the mood for something different.

Summary: 'This is not Conan'
Review: They should have named this movie, 'The Barbarian,' because I did not see the character of Conan at all in this film. Anyone who loves and has read Robert E. Howard's yarns will be in for some disappointment. Why couldn't they have Schwarzenegger's hair black? In every description Howard gives, his character is a black-maned, blue-eyed giant. Why could they not stick to Howard's stories? Instead they took pieces of his stories and botched them all up. The essence of Conan's character is not present in this movie. Conan is intelligent, talkative, crafty, wolfish, primordial... Hell, I could have made a better Conan flick than these Hollywood clowns. True Conan fans will note - right quickly - how this movie makes a travesty of Howard's character. Other 'comic-book' fans will find this film good. Finally, those who have only a vague idea of who Robert E. Howard was, will probably think this movie is the best sword & sorcery flick ever. The hell with that! I'm still waiting for REH's Conan to appear on film.

Summary: DIRECTING AND MUSIC PERFECT
Review: Why can't the "tasteless" and "artless" barbarians of the movie industry remix this greatest movie score into surround or at least stereo? They do for stupid brain dead movie sound tracks they actually think of as good! Also I could swear this has not been remastered for DVD it looks just like my laser disc if not worse!

Summary: Classic John Milius = a great flick!
Review: This is the movie John Milius wanted Apocalypse Now to be (watch his interviews in Hearts Of Darkness to discover why). Following other greats such as The Wind And The Lion, and preceeding his classics Red Dawn, Farewell To The King, and Clear And Present Danger, Conan is the perfect vehicle for Milius' brilliant and inventive preoccupation with classic, universal archetypes and with the "primitive" impulses that drive human nature. Sure, Conan is derived from a near-comic book view of good and evil, courage and cowardice, right and wrong, but like all Milius films it succeeds in entertaining (greatly) while simultaneously touching the timeless core interests that human beings share. A great and enjoyable flick, and one that is trademark Milius.

Summary: A great adventure!
Review: I think this fantasy adventure was really well done. As others have commented, the cinematography (filmed entirely on location in Spain) and musical score push this movie over the top. Also, I thought the acting was actually pretty good (I'm not saying Arnold should get an Oscar, but in my mind, Conan IS a bit stiff and stoic). The Wizard character provides some comedic moments, but in general "Conan The Barbarian" takes it self pretty seriously, which I like. Not much cheese here. Just plenty of steel on steel (and steel on necks...).

My main issue is not with the movie, but with the DVD release. It is pretty obvious that the studio didn't spend much time on this DVD release. The transfer is a bit grainy and the compression suffers a bit in places.

Summary: The VERY best fantasy movie ever
Review: Quite obviously the best movie of the fantasy genre ever made. This entire movie is a work of art! This is a must for anyone who has a vcr! This movie has an excellent story and use of action. The soudtrack complements the screenplay better than any movie ever made!!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Great movie, but terrible DVD transfer
Review: Love this movie, but the DVD transfer actually looks worse than the LD. And only pro-logic sound!
