Summary: The Greatest Heavyweight Fight Ever Filmed!
Review: "Godzilla" is actually the Anglicized version of "Gojira," itself a combination of the English word "gorilla" and the Japanese word for whale "kujira," making Godzilla one whale of a gorilla! Perhaps that served as the inspiration for pitting King Kong against Godzilla. One thing is certain, King Kong had the better agent, for this is the only movie where Godzilla's opponent gets top billing. It is also the first Godzilla movie filmed in color. One of my favorite scenes in the film is when the Japanese first land on the island where King Kong lives, and encounter the natives. To appease them, they demonstrate magic by playing a radio. Once they've gained their trust, they start handing out cigarettes, advising the natives to inhale deeply. Talk about politically incorrect behavior!

The various methods for getting King Kong to Godzilla are pretty silly, especially when he's floating on giant balloons. The fight scenes between the two behemoths are deadly serious, with neither monster getting the upper hand for long. During one of their clenches, I believe the translation for Godzilla's roaring is, "Get your stinking paws off me, you damn, dirty ape!" Much speculation abounds as to the winner of the match, as both monsters tumble into the ocean. King Kong is seen treading water back to his island, while Godzilla is nowhere to be seen. However, if I'm not mistaken, Godzilla did survive to appear in a few more movies. My advice for watching this movie is, don't take it seriously and just enjoy the action!

Summary: The Japaneese version is better.
Review: The Japaneese version of Godzilla vs King Kong is much better. The monsters have more screen time and the editing is better then the American film print. The Eric Carter footage is thankfully gone, and the ending is the same. The monsters fight to a standstill, although it appears more likely that it ended in Godzilla's favor. Once Godzilla made an apperance in Marvel Comics, where as Kong once paid a visit to DC, so I sort of view this as a Marvel vs DC contest in a way, with Godzilla representing Marvel, and Kong representing DC.

Summary: Larger Than Life.
Review: Explosive action, great special effects & good humour . . . all in one movie. King Kong's battle with Godzilla on Mount Fuji is a pure movie spectacle. Nice to watch this on a cold rainy night.
Recommended.

Summary: Good family fun!!!
Review: This is a great movie to watch with your entire family. It rules!

The basic premise here is that King Kong and Godzilla get into a fight. As you may already, both are huge monsters. Anyway, it's a clash of titans! It's the U.S.A. vs. Japan is a battle royale!!!

Godzilla messed with Kong, so Kong was forced to teach Godzilla a lesson. Although this movie would have been greatly enhanced if Kong had bodyslammed Godzilla or applied a sleeper hold or a full-Nelson, the action scenes are still rather exhilarating!

The outcome of the fight, however, leaves something to be desired. I expected King Kong to twist off Godzilla's head and spike it on the floor! However, it was not meant to be - Godzilla was too formidible of an opponent. The match-up is similar to a hypothetical wresting match between Hulk Hogan and Goldberg - neither athlete holds a big advantage over the other.

In any event, go buy a huge tub of popcorn and view this flick with your entire family! It's better than most movies out there. Also, the DVD transfer is fantastic!

Summary: Capitalism at its best
Review: While the King Kong costume leaves something to be desired the effects were a little worse. You can actually see the spears being thrown against a movie screen during the octopus invasion. A must for Godzilla die hards like myself, but I wonder if the Toho Corporation got any credit for this gem. The scientist that found the island of King Kong named the native berry mixture SOMA. Soma did not act like the acient plants of some cults as a physcotrpic drug, but instead the scientist found it to be a depressant. In fact it is described as follows and is very close to the what scientist describe in the movie: CARISOPRODOL (Soma©) is a rapidly acting muscle relaxant causing central nervous system depressant effects.

I wonder if Toho got any credit?

Summary: King Kong Remembers...
Review: I'll let King Kong explain it in his own words:

So there I was, just relaxing and minding my own business. I had just popped back a few giant narcotic berries and decided to lay back and listen to the groovey beats being laid down by the natives on their drums while some hot native chicks danced around me, and I started to snooze. Suddenly, I wake up and I cannot move an inch! Then there's this big flash of light and I find myself wading in the middle of a sea! I was all like "Whooah, what did I DO last night? Those narcotic berries must have been spiked!" So I head for the nearest land and there's like this big rubber Lizard King just spazzing out all over the place, breathing fire and stuff. He sees me, comes up to me and just starts pounding his fists on me. Well, excuse me for living! Like, sorry man, this was just not my scene so I decide to split.

I'm heading off minding my own business again when these green fairies with spinning blades for wings fly up to me and start sprinkling this white powder all over me. I breath some in and, MAN, I'm feeling fiiiine! It's just like those narcotic berries I love so much, but condensed for purer effect! So I lay back again, doing my own thing, when I wake up again, and man, wouldn't you know it, there's that Lizard King again, just harshin' my buzz!! Hey, I'm a pacifist, but this dude just keeps laying it on thick, so I decide to fight back, and there's all this flashing lightning and ****. Maaan, that was some wild bummer of a trip. The moral? The best I can think of is "Know your dealer".

(Me again): Yes, it's Godzilla, representative of the brave, clean-living Japanese vs. King Kong, symbol of the drug-addicted decadence of western youth and frightened pacifist. Whether King Kong or Godzilla wins at the end of the movie depends on whether you're watching the Japanese or American version.

Summary: Monster cinema's biggest slugfest!
Review: Although just about all of the Godzilla flicks have their cheesy charm, I like this one the best. I mean, let's face it: this battle was just plain destined to happen! Monster cinema's two (literally) biggest legends dukin' it out, with the fate of Tokyo's property insurance premiums hangin' in the balance! Yessiree, you'd better be hidin' those scale models, 'cuz it's throwdown time! Featurin' all of those not-so-special effects you've come to know & love from classic Japanese monster flicks, as well as those ridiculously cheesy (yet amusing) English dubs!

What more could a G-fan ask for?

Summary: Base line dvd for A quite fun Godzilla movie.
Review: The film is presented in pan and scan, from a quite grainy print. The sound is okay althogh the dubbing sometimes is awful. The only extra on this disc is a page of text describing a little abotu the director. There should have been so much more on the disc, it should have been in widescreen, why not have the original Japanese version on there too. When are we going to see a decent set of Godzilla DVDs in there theatrical ratios, from decent prints, in their various versions with decent accompanying information about the movie. I found it a bit annoying only being able to see the US version which had obviously had quite a bit of editing about done with it.
Maybe some UK company will release a better series of DVDs of this genre, I personally would like to see a decent set of the four original movies with all the decent extras, like for one example the UK Game of Death DVD.

Summary: Beautiful Garbage!
Review: Two guys in big ol' monster suits battling it out on a Japanese sound stage! There really isn't much more to it. This movie is just about perfect. The acting is stiff, the monsters are rubbery (Godzilla) or molting (Kong), the music is bombastic, the fight scenes interminable. A brilliant effort (especially considering the time) from the fine folks at Toho. My own personal favorite thing about this movie is that when they show Kong with his long apey arms, it is SO obviously just the guy in the suit holding on to the prosthetics -- Kong has two elbows on each arm! Brilliant!

Buy this movie! Watch it a lot!. Try not to take it personally!
