Summary: Disney at its best!
Review: The Lion King is still today the best Disney movie ever made. Although Disney has tried to have repeat success with Lilo and Stitch and Atlantis: The Lost Empire, none of them can compare to this remarkable movie! The film opens into the amazing musical sequence "The Circle of Life", when young Simba is born. Him and his best friend Nala escape off into the outlands where the Pride Lands' enemies, the hyenas, await them. As they make a daring escape, Simba's evil uncle, Scar, is making a plan to take over the kingdom. Simba winds up running away to escape his father's mysterious death, which he thinks is his fault. He runs away and meets a lovable meerkat, Timon, and a funny but stupid warthog, Pumbaa. As he grows up, he meets his old best friend, Nala. When Simba makes his way back home to the Pride Lands, he is challenged to a fight with his uncle Scar. The climax of the movie begins as Simba takes his place as the one true king. With 5 award winning songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice, and tons of funny and lovable characters, The Lion King is still today the most majestic and stunning movie that Disney fans have ever seen. As it prepares for its IMAX release and Platinum Edition DVD release, it also prepares for another generation to laugh, cry, and enjoy The Lion King.

Review: I really enjoyed the animation aspect of the movie. Character developement was great and the voices chosen to do them as well. I think Lion King was a big step for the production company as far as the quality of the animation was concerned. The plot of the movie is generaly the same every time. Not that it's a bad thing though since it is a childrens movie.

Summary: The ABSOLUTE BEST animated film I have ever seen!
Review: I am 20 years old and this movie is still an absolute favorite of mine for animated films! I remember, I was around 13 I guess when this movie came out and I absolutely loved it! I had the priveledge of seeing it in theaters which was great! I wouldn't recommend it for very young children though as it has a few slightly violent scenes in it. In the end during the fight of Scar with Simba, the part where Scar jumps through the flames really scared me when I first saw it! But anyway, this is definitely the best animated film ever made! One of the cutest scenes is when Simba is born. He is absolutely adorable! There is some excellent music in the first half of the movie! Circle of Life is the very first song and it is so awesome! And then combine it with the scenery at the beginning of the movie and I must say, this is definitely an awesome song! I Just Can't Wait To Be King is another song that I absolutely loved! It is so upbeat and it is great for kids but I love it still as a 20 year old woman! Be Prepared is another song that I like but it has kind of a scary tone (for little kids) to it. Hakuna Matata was another one of the great songs! The characters, Timon and Pumba do one of their first scenes in this song. Can You Feel the Love Tonight is probably one of the absolute best songs of the whole movie! It is a great childrens song but it is also is great for adults! I love that song! The rest of the songs I really don't remember. However, my family and I love this whole movie so much that our two cats are named after it! In fact, our beautiful male Siamese's name is Simba and our younger female Persian's name is Nala. In the movie, Simba and Nala start out as best friends but then later on they become a couple and I believe they have a baby and they show the baby in this movie but it might not happen until the sequal. And by the way, the sequal is also a MUST SEE! Believe me, you will not be disapointed if you get this movie "The Lion King". Don't hold me to this but I believe The Lion King won two Acadamy Awards for Best Music, three Golden Glob awards (Best Motion Picture, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song), and three Grammy Awards (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Instrumental Arrangement with Accompanying Vocals, and Best Musical Album for Children). As you can tell, this movie is definitely a MUST SEE NOW!

Summary: Not Disney's Best, But It's Hard Not to Be Won Over
Review: Disney may have been experiencing a rebound in the movie department over the past few years with ALADDIN, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and THE LITTLE MERMAID- all of which were treasures deemed worth adding to childrens' videos collections. But the huge success of THE LION KING still came at Disney like a brick through a window- and, as a matter of fact, for animation in general. The movie first starts out with the animals of Pride Lands watching the presentation of baby Simba, the child of Pride Lands king Mufasa and wife Sarabi. All of the animals hail the newborn, who is destined to become king someday- except for Simba's uncle Scar, who is angry that Simba took his place in line as the future king. As Simba grows, Mufasa teaches him about Pride Lands and the importance of being a king- advice Simba takes with pride and dignity. But one day, Scar and his fellow nutty hyenas trick Simba into going into a gorge, and then send a herd of wildebeasts down there to kill him. Mufasa rescues Simba, but when trying to rescue himself, Scar stops Mufasa from his attempt and kills him. Scar accuses Simba of the crime, and encourages him to run away to avoid trouble. Simba eventually catches up with Timon and Pumbaa, who live their carefree lives of no worries with their catchphrase "Hakuna Matata." Simba finds this life as a great way to get rid of his troubles, so he stays with them. Meanwhile, under the assumption that Simba is dead, Scar has taken his place as king of Pride Lands, with the hyenas by his side. Pride Lands is now in a destructive state, and there seems to be no sign of hope for better times. But wise baboon Rafiki finds out that Simba is still alive, and eventually catches up to him, encouraging him to return to Pride Lands and take his place as the one true king. Simba eventually agrees, and together with Timon, Pumbaa, and the lionesses, they prepare for a thrilling showdown against Scar and his hyena posse. Upon first viewing, it is probably hard to see why THE LION KING was so much more popular than its three predecessors, as it followed a similar blueprint that they did. But, in retrospect, one could point out the commercialism stance that Disney probably did not realize they were stepping in. In other words, the movie was created in ways that not only charmed and entertained audiences in their seats, but stuck into their minds for a good time onward. Never since SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS had Disney characters in a movie been so distinctive and so memorable- especially Simba, who is prideful and mischievous as a cub and confused as an adult lion; Nala, who has a few tricks under her paws amidst her charming personality; Mufasa, with his bold stature and understanding of his title; and Scar, with his slyness and determination to be a rightful (relatively speaking) king. Even the three main hyenas of the story- Banzai, Shanzai, and Ed- all have distinctive personalities and can not be easily confused by. But what probably dazzled people the most is THE LION KING's plot structure. The movie gave fair attention to moments of truth, power and boldness as well as moments of humor and silly wit- and throughout the entire project, both sets are arranged so that audiences can react to the events the right way- they can watch with awe as Simba is being prepared for his presentation, and they can laugh at the silliness of Timon and Pumbaa eating grubs as a regular meal. And this plot structure also gets a big helping hand from the music compositions of Tim Rice and Elton John- their memorable instrumentals and songs work with the mood of the movie at the time they come in. However, this plot structure only works to an extent- it may have appealed to the world, but when examining it in depth, what comes out is a movie that is inconsistent- that is, the mood of the movie does not stay constant, and if you think about it, it is hard to see those two aforementioned contrasting situations on the same boat, even though they are on the same boat (think, in music terms, Elton John's GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD). This characteristic is the main one that keeps THE LION KING from reaching the masterpiece qualities of SNOW WHITE or even THE LITTLE MERAMID and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST- and, in my case, a perfect rating from me, although a close call- but it is still hard not to be won over by THE LION KING's wonderful plot, memorable characters, and dazzling music score. Any child- or any Disney fanatic- should watch this movie during his or her lifetime. It should be a wonderful experience.

Review: After watching Aladdin and Beuty and The Beast I disn't know what disney could come up with. When the Lion King came out on video i watched it over and over again. This movie has some of the best animation I have ever seen in a disney movie and the Wildebeest stampede was one of the best climax seens i've ever seen. Take my advice and GET THIS MOVIE! (If your poor well......to bad).

Summary: Earth-centered spirituality.
Review: Probably one of the most memorable moments about The Lion King is the first ten minutes, when the animals and the music and the chorus crank it out. Then it downplays to Mother Earth worship and pantheistic leanings; the monkey witch doctor with his voodoo medicine and psychic visions; and the King who takes his son and gives him the "wisdom of the ages," by telling him if he ever gets into difficulty, he should look to the night sky and see the Kings above who will lead him. The predators all march in goose-step, "Nazi-like," and it was somewhat out of step with the rest of the film, and I don't know why they had to put in the film. The music is fine, but it's not the greatest film of Disney's.

Summary: Definetely one of my top 3 favorite animated Disney films!
Review: This movie is the BEST family film! The story, the characters, just everything is awesome. This is a Disney film that has numerous of memorable songs. The first time I watched this was when I was 7 years old and now that I'm 13, I still find myself picking this video off the shelf and singing along to the songs like, "I Just Can't Wait to Be King", "Hakuna Matata", and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight". This is probably the best animated family film to watch on a Saturday night. I can't wait 'till this Disney MASTERPIECE comes out on DVD! Hakuna Matata everybody!

Summary: An unforgettable Disney Classic!
Review: Those people that are saying Lion King was a rip-off of Kimba the Lion are only jaded anime otakus that seem to think American animation is always ripping off Japan. Not true. In fact, The Lion King was an adaption of the famous Shakespearian play Hamlet where the main character(which the play is titled off of)'s father, the King, is killed by his jealous brother. Told by his father's ghost to avenge his death, Hamlet does so, the similarity ends with Disney's trademark happy ending (in Hamlet, everyone dies at the end). This movie, though not my favorite of all the Disney animated features (that title belonging to The Hunchback of Notre Dame), is superbly made and has earned it's recognition as one of the greatest animated features of all time very easily. I'd go as far to say that if Walt were alive when it was released, he would have been proud. The music, acting, animation and overall story are all blended together seamlessly into a movie you have to be completely abnormal not to love. Buy this movie, you won't regret it, even after the upteenth viewing.
