Summary: One of the saddest movies ever
Review: Loveliness in motion, "The Bride With White Hair" is a movie that illustrates the age-old tragedy of forbidden love. Two battling clans move towards a final war, and the mightiest warriors on each side fall into love with each other (and some rather steamy love scenes, I might add). Brilliant actions sequences, heart-rensing romance and the single best speciall effect involving hair make this movie a must see. This DVD has English, Mandarin and Cantonese audio tracks, and has audio commentary by director Ronny Yu. Essential for any romance, international, action or wu shu movie fan.

Summary: not to my standards
Review: i rented this movie expecting it to be full of unrealistic fighting (which i love)...and beutiful scenery (which there was a lot of). the problem with this movie is the fighting is too unrealistic to the point where it is funny(in a bad way.) another point in this movie which i didnt like is that they fight with their hair- come on that is pretty messed up, you know??
but do rent this movie because it fun to watch- and if you dont like it, atleast watch it to the end- because the ending was incredible. the story was a fairy tail of romeo and juliet but with fighting, and unbelievable chinese scenery.
the subtitles where good so if you are like me and hate fighting to read subtitles in yellow, this movie does a well job making everything legible.i hope this helps

Summary: A NEAR MISS
Review: In this film, two members of hostile factions fall in love with each other (can you say Romeo and Juliet?) complicating an already knotted situation. Lin Ching-Hsia plays the "witch" assasin of an outlaw sect and Leslie Cheung the champion of a confederation of martial arts clans who more or less are the good guys (and gals). Cheung and Lins illicit love affair subsequently causes more than a little internal disorder within their respective groups, while the constantly elevating hostilities between their groups put a dent in their impromtu and amphibious honeymoon (everytime they start making love, they jump into and do it in a lake). After having already pledged eternal love to each other, the...hits the fan and things kind of fall apart for just about everybody..until the sequel anyway. I know everyone else loves this film, but for me it was lukewarm. Lin is always an eyefull, especially in this film wielding a bull whip, the set design and cinematography was sumptuous, but personally speaking, I just can't take Cheung seriously as a martial arts master or just about anything else requiring a forceful masculine presence. He once said in an interview that Lin is unconvincing playing a masculine role, to which my response is that neither is he. By his own confession, he doesn't know martial arts and this is pretty apparent in the few fight scenes that show up like random afterthoughts in the film and physically he doesn't look heavy enough to get a job as a paperweight. Adding to the sinking of this film, the sect Lin serves looks like a Chinese version of Soul Train (although the twin leaders are a novelty) and within Cheungs cadre, little happens except the perenial adolescent bickering that takes up so much time between fight scenes in most Hong Kong Cinema movies. Like I said before, everyone else seemed to really like this film, so don't take my word for it, but be prepared going in that you might be disappointed.

Review: I love this movie...its so classic, and like a Disney but buff and with more romance. Girls kick butt and the fightin scenes are the greatest...one of the best Foreign films Ive seen.

Summary: Nice Cinematography
Review: I bought this film because of an ad I saw on another Kung fu flick. I have to say that I was impressed right away with the cinematography. Even though the film has a dark overtone, the film was interseting to watch. I also found the chacraters to be interesting and the plot absorbing. THe only reason I gave the film four stars, was due to the lack of satisfying fight scenes. It's definately not as action packed as a Jet Li flick. But I'd say the stroy is alot more intellingent. If you want a Kung fu flick with a little less intensity then Jet Li, this should be right for you. If your looking for more, then I suggest you rent it at least once to see if it's to your liking.

Summary: better than i thought it would be!
Review: well boys and girls, im back! I just saw this movie earlier today (although i bought it over a month ago), so it's fresh in my mind. Thank god that finals are over...oh, sorry back to the movie. Well, i agree with the overall consensus, this movie is quite good. I was exceptionally skeptical due to the trailors i had seen, but the customer reviews swayed me to take a dive, and i did, and i enjoyed the swim afterwards. This movie is more story than martial arts. it has fighting in it, but if youre looking for a kick and punch thriller (what i kinda enjoy) then this may not be the movie that will satisfy your appetite, however, it will impress you nonetheless. It's quite an interesting story about two young martial artists from opposing clans that fall in love, they meet, they fall in love, they vow to love one another, they do, and then something happens. what you ask? well, watch the movie, i wont ruin it anymore than i already have. haha. It's not cheesey, although i was expecting it to be (remember i took a dive). Although, i have a complaint about the unnecessary nudity in the film. there was one scene that showed some naked woman wearing a mask, yeah, not your typical martial arts studio activity (i havent seen something like that,and ive been involved with MA for 12 or so years). but its a movie, so if youre planning on watching this with your children, don't! it only occurs one time, but my other complaint was with the sex scene in this movie. no nudity here, just acting, but quite explicit. so if youre easily offended by this type of material, you have been cautioned. the story was honestly pretty good, the acting was also very good. I got the DVD copy, so i didnt have any problems with blurriness, i thought it was a pretty good translation (picture and sound quality wise). The dvd has options of english, mandarin and cantonese audio tracks, so its good for those who dont feel like reading. the english language, isnt too bad either. infact, its pretty good. my brother and i looked at one another in shock, it's not bad at all, although, the cantonese with english subtitles is still better. towards the end, i thought Bridgette Lin's character was really cool, and that she gave a very strong performance. A very good movie, though gloomy, a definite bang for the buck!

Summary: Some people love it, some don't
Review: First off, HK fantasy films tend to be a little... quirky. This movie is definitely quirky, but the problem is it's also dull as paste. At no time did I give a flying fig about Leslie Cheung and his disaffected Romeo performance. Brigitte Lin comes off as a much better actor, but by the 15th minute, I had already started checking my watch. Boredom reigns here. And add to that the trademark HK over-the-top mugging and exaggerated Chinese Theater emotion, and you have a grueling film to watch. Another huge problem I had was that the film was so murky and dark. Can we possibly have any more cave scenes? The characters are mostly paper-thin in simplicity, and the "evil twins" are more annoying than imposing. The story jumps around with little to no fanfare and little to no interest being built up. The fight scenes are mostly lame, if for no other reason than the cheesy blur-effect that was used to excess. I didn't care about Lian's brother, nor his sister, nor his uncle, nor the 8 clan leaders, nor the cackling evil sister, nor the foppish evil brother, nor anyone. And therein lies the problem. Such a moody film should make you interested in SOMEONE throughout the movie. Bottom line: a lame Romeo & Juliet storyline with very little plot to follow and very few interesting themes or characters. A disappointing snoozer.

Summary: A visionary film
Review: "The Bride With White Hair" is an adult fairy tale that masterfully brings to life the heartfelt Romeo & Juliet love story at its core. This is a film about love and hate, faith, trust and betrayal and the way it is told is nothing short of perfect. It is the best Hong Kong movie I have seen and left me more fufilled than the smug Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Don't be fooled, however; despite all its romance, "The Bride With White Hair" is a furious action film as well. The masterful editing creates some of the most spectacular Kung-Fu scenes I have seen. The movie is superbly crafted, excellently acted, and gorgeously transferred to DVD. This film is clearly one that belongs in every DVD collection. Considering that this film had a production time of only 8 weeks, mostly shot on soundstages on the backlots of the Mandarin Film Studios, marks this as an even more remarkable achievement, one that speaks clearly for all the cast and crew's skills and professionalism. The film comes fully dubbed in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin and features clean English subtitles. As with Tai Seng's previous releases, this film automatically defaults to the Cantonese soundtrack with English subtitles turned on, the configuration most lovers of this film will certainly prefer. The disc also contains trailers, extensive cast & crew biographies, and a featurette called "The Making Of The Bride With White Hair", which gives an interesting look behind the scenes of the film. The disc also contains a running-length commentary track by director Ronny Yu who has quite a bit to say about the film's production and what his intentions were when he created this movie. Hearing him say these things and seeing how he translated them into visuals is fascinating and entertaining at the same time.

Summary: its not what you think!
Review: this movie was one of the best brigitte lin movies that i have ever seen. though it wasnt what i was expecting this movies since it was in the swordsplay area, it still is an excellent movie. this movie stars Brigitte lin and Leslie Cheung. this movie is about the two of them as they fall in love with each other. but the twist is they are from opposing clans. in short its about love, betrayal and honor between two people. cho yi hang(leslie cheung) betrays his lover, played by brigitte lin, and she turns into the bride with white hair. again while there isnt a sea of fighting scenes this is one of the best movies that i have ever scene with brigitte lin in it. so i would recommend this one to any person who enjoys fantasy martial arts genre.

Summary: no crouching tiger!
Review: I recently saw the incredible crouching tiger, hidden dragon. this movie left me wanting to see more movies like it. i did some research and found, the bride with white hair. unfortunately this movie did not live up to the quality of cthd. this movie suffered from the murkiness of the video transfer. almost all the scenes are obviously shot at a sound stage...the lighting was awful and the fight scenes were blurry. there were some pretty cool "wire" fighting scene, to simulate incredible jumps and flight....unfortunately, again, these scenes are often blurry and hard to see. the movie is not bad...just not great.
