Summary: So Very Bad
Review: The only way this could have been any worse, is if it had been animated.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: We'll sadly never see its like again.
Review: An exercise in imagination that would never be made today, LABYRINTH comes from the fertile creativity of Terry Jones, Brian Froud and Jim Henson. Jones is an accomplished fairy tale writer (and his comedic talents honed on Monty Python's Flying Circus are a plus to the script). Froud's designs are intricate and lifelike. Henson and his gang of puppeteers do an amazing job putting the whole thing together. The visuals are always interesting, and sometimes breathtaking.

Slightly less interesting (than the visuals) are the two lead roles. Jennifer Connelly is Sarah, a 14-year-old girl who carelessly wishes her baby brother to be taken by the goblins. This film comes early in her career and she clearly has great talent, but there are a few shaky moments. David Bowie is the Goblin King and he seems to put less than total effort into the role. We KNOW he can act, and act very well, but perhaps he's not treating the role with respect? Despite those minor quibbles, both actors WERE good choices and do fit the roles well.

The film does have its share of genius... the "helping hands" for example are brief but wonderful (and unforgettable). The puppetry is amazing. Sadly, we'll probably never see filmmaking like this again as it becomes easier and cheaper to do things with computer graphics.

The DVD documentary is an extra-special treat. It's an hour long and covers everything in great detail. It's especially interesting (naturally) to see how the puppets are operated. The anamorphic transfer is very fine, picture and sound are both very good. A well done DVD for a modern fantasy near-classic!

Summary: Pure Magic
Review: Do you like the work of Henson & Co? Do you like David Bowie? Do you like Faerie Tales? Need a movie that appeals to the whole family? If you have answered "YES" to the majority of these questions, have I got a movie for you!

This movie was a favorite with my family and friends while growing up. It still remains a "Must Have" in all of our households and gives me nothing but great memories.

It is a beautifully filmed story that only Henson could tell with the help of David Bowie & George Lucas.

Summary: Unsurpassed tale of adventure and friendship!
Review: I've been watching this movie since I was ten years old, forcing my dad to spend hundreds of dollars renting it, until buying two copies this past Christmas.

_Labyrinth_ is pure magic: the puppets are unreal, quirky, and hilarious. Hoggle and Ludo bring tears to my eyes, Ambrocious makes me laugh out loud, and the Goblin King scares me. Of course, Sarah was and is my hero of adventures. It is so easy to get involved in this film, to suspend your disbelief, and start to imagine life beyond the Goblin City, fate ticking away to the hands of a thirteen-hour clock.

This is what a film should do, transport us from the mundane in to such colours and planes of the human spirit. This is definitely a movie I will pass on to my future children.

Yes, I'm rambling, but it's harder than nails to describe this movie in a paragraph or two. I feel giddy just thinking about it. Watch it once and you'll never "turn back" ;)

Also recommended: Anne of Green Gables and The Princess Bride.

Summary: Loved it since day ONE!
Review: I first saw this movie when I was about 4 or 5 and now i'm 16. I instantly fell in love with it. I loved all the characters. My favorite time to watch it is on stormy nights. Now that the Labyrinth has been brought out once more, I will be buying it as soon as i can. If you love fantasy stories with a bunch of magic and puzzle solving you will love this movie.

Summary: Labyrinth: A truly captivating fantasy story
Review: My sister and I rented this movie about 12 years ago, and have probably seen it 100 times since then. Everthing about this movie makes it a masterpiece; Jim Henson's puppets(many),catchy songs and a beautiful tale of friendship, adventure, and an evil king. The costumes and sets are like nothing you have ever seen before. True entertainment. Just the fact that David Bowie plays the Goblin King, and Jim Henson directed it makes it a must watch.

Summary: Ultimately Unmissable!
Review: This is the best movie to emmerge from the 80's! I first saw Labyrinth when I was 5, now im almost 18, I still love it. As soon as it came out on DVD, I went and bought it, as well as the soundtrack. The entire movie is full of wonderful scenery and characters, with such a deep story, this movie was sure to push Jennifer Connelely's acting career to the top, and im sure it did! David Bowie also hit his best with this movie too. No matter how old you are, you are almost guarenteed to love this movie and will want to watch it again and again. If you haven't got a copy already, get one before it goes out of print (again).
